Alisha Kearns was nominated by parent of a student, Noelle Rivers.

Ms. Kearns has taken what Rivers's son hated most in the world - school - and turned into something he couldn't wait to go to every day.

"Last year, I had to remove my son from preschool because I was being called to pick him up halfway through the day due to behavior issues," Rivers said. "I’d be at work and in meetings and have to leave to pick him up. People wanted to medicate him at 4 years old, so he could fit in to the classroom environment better. This greatly affected my income and, more disturbingly, my son’s attitude about school and learning."

This year, her son started kindergarten with Ms. Kearns. He had a couple problems at first, but she was committed to getting to know him, and what makes him tick.

"Today, Bart loves school, is never sent home, and is excited about learning," Rivers said. "Now I can work and take better care of Bart and his 3 siblings. Ms. Kearns is a perfect example of how a teachers’ actions and commitment have far reaching effects. She didn’t just help my son, she helped my whole family. We are so grateful!"

We love Ms. Kearns! Every day our son comes home from Kindergarten happy. We could not ask for a better start to his education. She encourages him to learn and explore every day. If he has a question she doesn't just give him the answer she encourages and empowers him to see if he can find the answer himself or looks for the answer with him. She supports and appreciates his curiosity and somehow has as much energy as he does! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Ms. Kearns is an amazing teacher. Our daughter is very happy to be in her class. She always talks fondly about her teacher. Whenever our daughter gets sick and has to stay home, she gets very upset about not being able to be in school with her favorite teacher. She’s always looking forward to school, is eager to learn, excited to participate in all the activities because each day is a new adventure in Ms. Kearns’s class.

We are blessed to have a daughter in Ms. Kearns class. I have volunteered in the class room and have seen her interact with her students. She has the ability to reach each child on their level for all to succeed and brings out the best in them. My daughter was ill for a week and was thrill that Ms. Kearns took the time to write and mail her a note. My daughter loves Ms. Kearns and her school because of Ms. Kearns. She genuinely cares about her students. She is nurturing, patient and works very hard. She challenges each student to do their best. We appreciate her so very much! Congratulations Ms. Kearns and thank you for all you do for our children!!!!

Ms. Kearns is, by far, one of the most talented and devoted teachers any of my children have had the privilege of having. I sent her my youngest of four for kindergarten this year with apprehension. He was born 10 weeks early and has spent every year of his life in some sort of therapy (often times multiple therapies a day) to help him over come his delays. I had concerns that his lasting speech delay would cause him to be over looked or ignored and that it would impact his social interactions and cognitive development in a larger classroom setting. My fears were quickly remedied. Ms. Kearns has helped my son to not only survive kindergarten, but THRIVE and flourish. The things he has learned from her patient yet challenging methods are incredible. His speech delay is no longer something I worry about. She has built his confidence and created an eager and curious learner who does not let his speech deter him from gather all of the knowledge he can! And he not only has a class full of kindergarten friends now, but has made friends with peers and staff throughout his entire school. She sets a precedence which all educators should strive for. Ms. Kearns love what she does and it shows in the ways she goes above and beyond for each of her students. We are so lucky to have her in our lives!

Ms. Kearns creates a culture of love and acceptance in her classroom. Every child feels their input is important, and enjoys learning! I’m so thankful my daughter is in her room, she has ignited a passion of learning in my child.

I couldn't agree more with the other parents, My daughter loves Ms Kearns and misses her when school is out. When asked what she likes most of her class, i expected her to say: seeing her friends and playing in the playground but instead she said ,she" likes it when Ms Kearns lets us do our research projects, lets us write out words, and present it to the class and allows us to be in charge" (of a responsibility like a line leader, door holder etc). As a room parent what i love of Ms Kearns is her dedication to her students by  giving them a postive feedback making them feel  smart and more importantly special. Thank you Ms Kearns for being a great teacher to our kids!

I couldn’t agree more with the statements made about Ms. Kearns. She was my son’s teacher and experienced her dedication, personal attention to knowing who he was and how he learned to truly create a passion for learning. Ms. Kearns is one of the teachers I will forever be grateful in paving the way for my son. She deserves this recognition and much more! Thank you for all that you do!

My daughter is a special needs student who was lucky enough to be placed in Ms. Kearns' kindergarten classroom this year. In addition to autism and other impairments, my daughter was recently diagnosed with epilepsy. She has her challenges but Ms. Kearns is there with her every step of the way - she genuinely loves each and every student, no matter what their challenges, and wants to see them succeed. As a parent of a special needs student, it is such a godsend to know your child is being cared for by someone who cares so deeply and is so committed to her students. Ms. Kearns has made it possible to breathe a little easier. My daughter misses Ms. Kearns whenever there is a break and asks when she'll get to see her again. All the children (and parents) absolutely adore her - she has created such a special space for the kids at school. We love you Ms. Kearns!
