John Webb was nominated by a colleague, Shara Morrison.

Mr. Webb works with impressive energy and contagious optimism, and is a tireless advocate for his students. Whether he is helping individual students recognize their dreams, exploring the big picture of his school and community, or identifying areas of need and offering innovative ideas for improvement, his passion and commitment to the youth that he serves is clear.

Mr. Webb is not a counselor who waits for students to approach him with their needs. He seeks to establish early connections with each of his students, presenting his open-door policy and demonstrating an approachability and a willingness to help. He applies his proactive approach to larger group settings as well.

"Whether Mr. Webb is developing and delivering inventive learning experiences for the classroom, leading one of his many clubs, or coaching the freshman girls’ volleyball team, he approaches tasks with both enthusiasm and dedication," Morrison said.

Mr. Webb is known throughout his school and community as one of the greatest youth advocates. He co-facilitates Goffstown’s “Youth Forum,” encouraging young people to share their voices and bringing community leaders and students together to promote positive change. He even joined a Drug Enforcement Agency initiative last summer, discussing the opioid epidemic with students on a local television station and flying to Atlanta with a group of students to deliver a presentation about the opioid crisis.

"Put simply, John seems to have more time in his days than the rest of us do. He holds himself to high standards with all of the daily tasks of a school counselor, while somehow managing to remain devoted to matters of importance to students. He advises more clubs than any other faculty member in our building, and rarely shies away from an initiative," Morrison said.

From directing student-generated anti-bullying videos, to accompanying students to a LGBTQ-Friendly College Fair last spring, Mr. Webb constantly looks out for the best interests of students. He directs the “Be the Change,” “Peer Outreach” and “Ripple Effect” clubs and worked determinedly to bring the social/emotional learning program, “Challenge Day” to his school this year. With all he does for his students, school and community, it's no wonder he was named this year’s New Hampshire School Counselor of the Year.

"John is always willing to stop what he is doing and offer collegial support to me when I need it. He also challenges me to step outside of my comfort zone in order to grow as a counselor. Goffstown High School is privileged to have John as a member of our school community!" Morrison said. "Having worked with John for more than fifteen years now, I have had the good fortune of knowing him as a mentor, colleague and friend."
