Support Michelle

Michelle Campbell was nominated by her principal, Jennifer Richmond.

Ms. Campbell took on a split level classroom mid-way through the 2016-17 school year.  Her room was a combination of third and fourth graders who didn't "fit" in a traditional classroom.  She used hands-on, project-based learning to take students who don't fit the typical classroom mold and transform them into thoughtful, questioning learners.  She taught her students to work in groups and how to be good group members. Ms. Campbell combatted bullying and made her classroom a safe place for all learners to take risks. She took students who had previously been sent out of other classrooms for misbehavior and turned them into highly functioning, scientifically minded students whose character made them stand out.

Prior to this classroom placement, Ms. Campbell was the school's PE teacher, Response to Intervention lead teacher, and the Dean of Students. Her proven record of dealing with difficult students in difficult situations made her a great fit for the split classroom. Ms. Campbell has been a leader in her district in terms of administrative tasks, but with her new position this year, she became a leader in the district for technology and grant writing. She attended the MACUL conference as well as the MSTA conference last year, bringing back numerous resources and ideas, not only to her classroom, but to the entire staff at CPS Elementary School. She was able to secure multiple smart phones from Sony, which she used to enhance her curriculum with virtual reality apps. Ms. Campbell has a true knack for engaging her students and making learning fun.

Professionally, she was evaluated as "Highly Effective" for the 2016-17 school year.  Her student growth scores, academically were proficient.

"Her students' emotional and social growth is immeasurable, but I guarantee it is off the charts!" Richmond said. "Ms. Campbell has done a tremendous job instilling positive moral and ethical standards on her students and also modeling that for them in daily life."

We are truly blessed to have such an inspirational teacher here at CPS. They all are really. But, Mrs Campbell is changing lives of students/families. She has shown my child how to be a leader and how to think outside the box with her hands-on approach. Such a truly deserving role model, way to go Michelle!

I had the pleasure of working alongside Michelle during the early years of her career. She is always optimistic and works hard to create lessons that children will enjoy...not just so they memorize the material. She definitely is deserving of all this recognition!

I read about her in the paper. I always taught in this same manner and thought active students were best served by active teaching. Practical use of interactive items give students real-world skill that sticks with them. The text should be a guide only not a way to cram info into the heads of students just so they can forget the facts a month later. I praise this teacher for her hands on and exciting style of teaching. How do you keep kids involved and invested? Involve them and invest in what is important to them (doing and determining their individual roles in learning.) Good for her!!!! Better for her students! TY

I have had the pleasure to work with Michelle for 9 years. Her unique approach to teaching, in any capacity, is inspiring. When you listen to her talk you can tell she truly cares for her students and wants the best for them. Working with students is often timed difficult however it is the best fit for Michelle and any student that is lucky enough to have her as a teacher.

My son had previously been a great student but was rapidly falling behind, hating school, losing confidence and motivation, and our whole family was suffering as a result. He wasn't even in Mrs. Campbell's class for a week when I saw the spark of desire to learn returning in my son. Her teaching style is exciting and engaging, she loves science and has brought it to life! Her teaching has gone far beyond academics because she believes in the students and helps them to believe in themselves. This was a pivotal year, and our lives were changed because of Mrs. Campbell! She is a great teacher and there isn't a teacher more deserving of this honor.

Michelle is one of the most Cari g, inspirational educators I have encountered. She was my child's PE teacher for 4 years and we LOVED HER. She has an amazing way of making all the kids feel important and doesn't play favorites. She is innovative and works hard at finding ways to make learning fun.

Mrs Campbell changed my son Cameron's 4th grade year right around! He was struggling in Math and had a negative attitude towards school. After starting her class, he LOVED school and more importantly felt valued. The first week with Mrs Campbell, Cameron came home and said, "She's a good teacher mom...I was stuck on my math and she sat right next to me and helped me with every single problem." He also has become very interested in technology. I am thankful for Mrs Campbell and her teaching her students to create, think, be kind, and to value learning!

Stephanie Hooper Posted over a year ago

This is AMAZING! Inspiring! I am a substitute paraprofessional at a neighboring district within the same county. I work with many high risk students that have behavioral issues, but at the jr high and high school level . We need more people like Ms. Campbell! If students learned new tools and resources at a younger age, they would be more successful in and outside of the classroom.

Karen Davis Posted over a year ago
