I had the pleasure of working with Celeste Hill for over 4 years during my tenure at DDEMS as the school nurse. Our roles frequently required a collaboration of our efforts, allowing me the privilege of watching her in action. She brings to the table a wonderful mix of knowledge of teaching, proven approaches to problem solving, and a tireless devotion to the youth of Prince Georges County. I agree 100 percent with the sentiments expressed by her colleagues and current and former students. She is simply a true believer in the power of leading by example, teaching the whole child, and seeking the goodness that resides in the hearts of all children. I have seen her work her magic – a combination of love, nurturing, toughness when appropriate, and loyalty – on very troubled individuals. Her ability to persevere when others had given up on these students is impressive. Ms. Hill is the real deal; I wholeheartedly believe that she is deserving of this recognition.

Ms.Hill is a very strong & independent woman.. she has helped me through many phases in my life. I've been through so much and she's been the main one guiding me and supporting me each & everyday. If it weren't for her i wouldn't be as confident as I am right now. She's like a second mom to me and I care about her so much, she's also there for many other girls as she is with me. She's the first one who's always there when Im at my worse, and she's the main one who makes sure a problem is resolved.

What can I say that hasn't already been said. For the past 5 years I have worked with her, I can attest to the fact that Celeste is gifted at working with the most difficult students in our school's population. Any teacher can teach a class of students who are compliant, prepared, enthused to learn and able to handle the normal craziness of adolescence. But it takes a special person with a combination of skill and desire to go the distance with children who really need a hero to run the path with them in and out of school. Celeste is that kind of teacher. One story capsulizes this: We had a student a few years ago who was a handful to say the least. Angry, defiant, verbally abusive...the whole gamut. For three straight years in middle school, she was that way nearly everyday. Needless to say, she had a difficult time learning and we had a difficult time teaching her. Over the course of her 8th grade year, Celeste slowly developed a deeper and deeper relationship with the young lady by mentoring her, finding community resources and helping her navigate life while finding healthier ways to manage her anger. Fast forward to 9th grade, the young lady made honor roll and became a mentor in Celeste's non profit Lovely Ladies of Laurel, aka L3, and is now paying it forward. That story has been repeated with dozens of girls at our school who've had the chance to interact with Celeste. The point is that Celeste is one of those rare teachers that has the emotional stamina AND relational skills to work with children who need "extra" She is really irreplaceable in our building and we are blessed to have her. For this reason and many others, she is our Life Changer. I highly recommend her as a Life Changer of the Year. Kelly Burgess - AVID Coordinator DDEMS

Ms. Hill is amazing. She has a hard of gold, and she’s always so giving. She gives so much of her time, heart, and compassion to those who means the most to her. Weather it’s her L3 girls, her co-workers, her students, her friends, or her family miles away. She is a true example of a super woman, a phenomenal woman. I’m so proud to call her my friend, my sista!

Isaiah Vargas, Professional School Counselor DDEMS Posted 9 months ago

Ms. Hill is more than deserving of this honor. She should be the face of this award. She's always energetic and with a positive disposition. When I learned of the many responsibilities Ms. Hill is tasked with on a daily basis, including weekends, I was amazed! I can only hope that I will continue to impact students' lives for countless years while doing so with the warmest smile you have ever seen in your life. As a school counselor who is new to the field, I am thankful for Ms. Hill because she inspires me and teaches me how to get through to students every single time I am around her. There is no debate, the most selfless, hardworking, professional award winner is Ms. Hill in my eyes.

I am one of Ms. Hill’s L3 girls and if I can say one thing about her (even though I could say a million good things) it’s that she’s always there with her support and strong advice when you need her. This will be my last year as one of her L3’s and I feel fully ready to go out into the world with her advice and guidance behind me. With her in my corner I know I will be successful wherever I go. She has done so much to help the young women of this community and this is truly her passion. There is no other person I could see fit for this.

Elise Jackson Posted 9 months ago

Ms Hill has honestly been a blessing to me. She’s been my #1 supporter no matter what she has going on! Not only that but she’s like a second mother and huge role model to me. I’ve learned so much from her since my 7th grade year at Eisenhower and I will love her forever for everything. Thank you for all that you do for me and others around you Mommy!

I’m so lucky and glad that I had the privilege of knowing and realizing how great people can be through ms. Hill. People tell you stories of mentors who effected their lives or fundamentally changed their path, but to experience someone who doesn’t have to care, care about your life is truly awesome. I find that this quote embodies what I have learned about life from ms. Hill “I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I ended up where I needed to be

Any student that she meets, she is able to support and guide them in the right direction. Students love and respect her endlessly. She is our Eagle that SOARS everyday. Congratulations Ms. Hill and this recognition is well deserved.

I recommend Celeste Hill highly for the Life Changer award. I work with Ms. Hill at Eisenhower Middle School. OVer the last five years or so, I have seen her dedication to our students and to the girls in her Lovely Ladies of Laurel (L3) program. Not only does she care deeply about girls at risk, but she persists. I have not seen her give up on anyone. She reasons with them, reminds them, and even chides them when necessary -- she's a good mother to them. She has had many different roles in the school related to students at risk, and she has been gracious about accepting any changes in assignment. I think that's because she keeps her eye on the prize: helping these students at risk mature into responsible, successful, kind people.

Jocelyn Ruffin Posted 9 months ago

Ms.Hill is one of the most caring people in our school. She helped me with my singing and to help improve my grades. She has a beautiful character and she brightens any room she walks in. Even though she's not a teacher she teaches us (students) how the real world is and she shows us the importants of learning and behaving. She loving in so many ways.

ms hill has been a great role model for me and my life has been changed in a positive way. When I was at my breaking point in 7th grade last year she put me in her group to help me overcome everything i was doing wrong , all my anger was let go and i felt like i could tell my group anything, but when i improved so much i didn’t need the group anymore so my time was done. I started getting worse than i was skipping class, fighting , and disrespecting teachers , and at the end of the year i ended up with a bad gpa . this year she’s been helping me and my sister and we’re doing great . and i owe it all to me hill

Meadow Lanet Posted 9 months ago

Ms. Hill is an amazing person she’s helped me a lot especially from last year! You can always count on her to be there for you if you need her . She’s very caring and very determined, if you want something done she will be able to negotiate it with you and get it done! For example our school wanted to wear jeans jacket Ms. Hill made a deal with our principal saying if she could get everyone to wear the correct uniform then she will get us to wear the jean jackets! Now our school is able to wear jean jackets! I care tor Ms. Hill a lot and she’s really amazing!

I met Ms. Hill last year when the agency for which I work was trying to establish relationships with schools to provide mental health services for students. The first thing that struck me about her was her passion for her students, especially the girls, and the extents to which she was willing to go in order to support their achievement and well-being. Thanks to Ms. Hill's boundless energy and unflagging spirit, her school was the first with whom we formed a relationship because she left no stone unturned in her effort to make the connection happen. Ms. Hill's passion and energy is a much-needed spark to ignite a fire of change in students' lives.

I have known Ms. Hill as a special educator for more than 8 years. She has been a student advocate and a role model for many of our young ladies. Ms. Hill chose to dedicate her life working with our most challenging students---those who are frequently in "crisis." It is commendable the way she treats these students with respect, see things from their perspective and provides them with alternative ways of dealing with their issues. Ms. Hill literally meets students on their level. I have witnessed her sitting on the stairs counseling students who are in "crisis." Ms. Hill is a life changer. She has been the "light--- the guardian angel" in lives of many students, especially young girls. Ms. Hill not only counsels but she also models.

...another point to note. My youngest daughter attended Dwight Eisenhower Middle School. We did.not want her to go there, but could not afford to put her in private school, and her academics did not enable her to go elsewhere. Even as an engaged, involved parent, I did not realize she was.being bullied. Often, kids hide or downplay things, and if you dont ask the right questions, or see the right things at the right time, you can miss crucial clues, so one should never be quick to judge a parent that doesnt. Thats why suicide often catches families unawares. My bigger point is, having a teacher, on the inside, who cares, and has a discerning eye, can catch things the parents dont see, and her intervention can make a difference in the choice a child might make as a result of such a rough environment, such as joining a gang, skipping school, becoming active sexually, running away, completely giving up on the academics they are there for, choosing to join in on the "clownery" and antics of others trying to fit in. She shepherded my daughter, a quiet, awkward, different looking child, who was placed in such a harsh environment as a six grader, and nurtured and sheltered and kept a watchful eye over her, until she could get to Laurel High School, where she is now a senior, who has risen to the ranks of fourth in the chain of command of Laurel's JROTC unit. Her path could have been so very different, but God used Ms. Hill to place her on the road to a very different destiny. She is the only reason I dont completely regret not being able to send my daughter yo another middle school.

Sharon Boddie Posted 9 months ago

Celeste's dedication, work and vision in the creation of L3 is a model to follow. Girls that are in sports, cheerleading, or very strong academically will always have a place in a school environment. But everyone doesnt have the talent, mindset, or inclination to participate in such things. Or they are in a state of depression, caused by circumstances or a chemical imbalance, which makes them less than sociable, which relegates them to ranks of the social outcasts, which can also consists of those who immature, lack self confidence, and a host of other factors that make it difficult the middle school social scene. Not all L3 girls fall into this category,, but if they do, they are welcomed and nurturednto blossom into their full potential. All L3 girls are given the opportunity to grow together in a safe environment, learn the value of teamwork, the importance of giving back to those less fortunate, partipation in health awareness such as juvenile diabetes and breast cancer, by being involved with annual walks...I could go on and on. Ms. Hill is tireless. Her impact is widespread. I recomme d her highly.

Celeste is great with kids she is able to motivate them to live their best life. .

Althea Rogers Baker Posted 9 months ago

Celeste is the epitome of love of children and community. She understands the African proverb "It takes a village to raise a child". Giving of self, time, and energy, regardless of her personal responsibilities, Celeste abides by her spiritual relationship with the Lord to her lead her in her purpose! I am grateful to be connected to her energy and true determination to afford our future generation the leadership and understanding that they need to succeed. I am the Vice Principal at Perth Amboy HS in NJ, the city that she was born and raised in. I cannot imagine that there is a better candidate for this award!!!

As a teacher and mentor she sets high standards for herself and for others as well. I have known her to a be a strict disciplinarian with a kind and caring heart. She is blessed with a personality that has the power to positively align the lives of many young people who would otherwise have gone astray. She is also an inspiration to people around her to engage in small acts of kindness and compassion everyday so that together we can make a big difference in our community and larger world.

Celeste is an asset to have on your team. She is outstanding working with young female students who need direction and lack motivation. Many young ladies' lives have turned around for good because of her dedication. We met about a decade ago and she is always dedicated to her students. Nobody else deserves this honor than Celeste Hill.

Cynthia Johnson-Atolaiye Posted 9 months ago

Celeste is an outstanding ladies' advocate who has diligently worked with the most difficult young female students in our school. She is very positive and never gives up on them. She is also disciplined and expects nothing short of positivity from her students. She is indeed a role model for the female students. She teaches them to recognize their worth and accept nothing less of that. I enjoy working with her and I wish her the very best because she deserves the best.

One of the very first people that I met when I arrived at Dwight D. Eisenhower Middle School in Laurel, Maryland was Ms. Celeste Hill. From the outset it was very clear to me that this was a woman that had to be making a huge difference in the school, simply through her persona and the way that she carried herself. Her positivity and level of encouragement were both unmistakable and quite profound. She was wearing a sweatshirt with an inspirational saying and when she introduced herself as the crisis coordinator for the school, I remember thinking and later commenting to her that she seemed to be the perfect person for that position, especially considering how important the ability to de-escalate a situation, and being positive and hopeful are to her position. As I have gotten to know her more, I have been able to see firsthand how her extensive experience working with young people coupled with her very broad skill set have been brought to use in such a marvelous way in our community. There is such a brightness to her presence that she is able to quickly connect with a student and help that student toward restoration of a broken relationship or simply to learn from the situation and move forward a better person. As a result, there are a great many students and adults that look to Ms. Hill as a source of encouragement and inspiration to be their best and make a difference where we are right now! She has simply been invaluable to our school and the surrounding community and we are so very blessed to have her!

Celeste Hill is one of the most amazing souls I know! She has been a part of my children's lives for the past 3-4 years and has always gone above and beyond for each of them. Her kindness and patience is something that most can't even begin to compare with. My children have had some of the best experiences working with her during their school careers. She truly understands what teenage kids go through and the best ways to work with each child individually. The time she donates to helping her community, her students, as well as her communication with parents is something that truly makes her stand out from the crowd. My family will always hold a special place in our Hearts for Mrs. Hill! ?

Ms.Hill was one of the first people to help me when I had an issue last year. She was understanding and fair but she also has her boundaries. Ms.Hill is always trying to help people in need and is always out on the look out for trouble. She’s really cool and kind but don’t get on her bad side. There is no one in the DMV area that deserves such an honor than Ms Celeste Hill. From meeting her years ago, she was always radiating greatness without trying to so hard. Her smile makes all smile. She is not just a mother and workforce leader, she is the reason why villages can raise children. For her students and all young girls, A role model, a mom to all, a listener and first aid kit to those who are going through things. She never takes growth without everyone grow with her. To know her is know definitions in the dictionary like, Kindness, loving, caring, supportive, motivated, inspiring, leadership, innovative, creative, achievement, grounded, blessed and much more. She always challenges all to be greater than great. Her presence is always a present to the environment. In all, it's too bad we can clone thousands of more in the world, but having one is just as great than none at all. Thank you Ms Hill, you are indeed my SHERO!!!

Darien Anderson Posted 9 months ago

I had the upmost pleasure of meeting Ms. Hill at the most depressing time in my life. I had just left public school in New York for being bullied by a bunch of girls. The school didn’t do anything for my situation so my mother thought it was best to send me to live with my father in Maryland. Ms. Hill and my father were coworkers at Eisenhower Middle. I attend the Boys and Girls Club for the summer of my 9th grade year and Ms. Hill was my counselor. This woman changed my whole life around in just 1 summer. I was from New York so I was a tough girl and she knew how to make me crack and spill all the beans. I hadn’t gotten into a fight, or cursed at anyone, or skipped school my whole high school career. That was all because of her and the power of her mentoring group Lovely Ladies of Laurel. She had me learning dances for shows, community service for the homeless, talking to congress about ways we could help other less fortunate girls who needed a mentor, and I even got to visit the White House when Obama was president. In high school I never thought I had a chance to go to college because of my grades and behavior. She got me back on track to graduate, I applied to college, got in, and graduated May 2017. I still text or call Ms. Hill to ask for advice about certain things even as an adult. I am 23 years old working as an assistant teacher inside a child care center. I’m looking to go back to school for my masters in ABA therapy. I am now apart of a support group in New York, where I’m a big sister to a little girl in need. In my later years I’m looking to start my own mentoring group and give scholarships to girls who were in my program. I’m so thankful to call Ms. Hill family and of course my mentor.

I have known Celeste for years, and her light has never dimmed. She puts 100% effort into everything she does, and has as much energy to help her peers as she does her kids. When Celeste puts her mind to something, she doesn't stop until she has completed her dream. Then she goes on to the next dream. She has been an inspiration to so many young women, who are better people today because of their interaction with Ms. Hill. She truly deserves this award.

She helps me understand why I should do the right things. I have changed thanks to how she has been helping me with my behavior and my decisions. Ms.Hill is such a great person. I see Ms.Hill as the only one of the staff members i can talk to. She has been really helpful these middle school years.

Ms Hill is nice because she helps L3 girls get better in their education, and how to learn from their mistakes. She is fair and kind when she can be. She seems like she can give good advice when you're down and from what I've heard whenever she's mentioned in a conversation it is something positive.

I went to New York with Ms.Hill and I liked the trip and Thank you for the trip you changed my life.

Ms.Hill Is an Amazing Individual, She has helped many students with curtain stuff like dress down day when we the students don't deserve it. She takes Us to field trips and makes sure we're scholarly and on task and when people are in trouble and are suppose to receive a consequence she just gives them a warning and helps them not repeat the same mistake again. Currently we're not suppose to wear the improper jacket color it's navy blue and our Principal told her we needed to take them off and if not we'd get detention. She gave us warnings and when she saw us in different colors then our uniform she'd take us to the locker bay and put them in our lockers without a consequence. If I'm right she gave all the students she caught with a different color jacket more than one chance to take it off without detention but she's still doing her job and making sure we're on task. She's great :)

ms.hill is strict nice and enforcing

Irma Hernandez Posted 9 months ago

I actually don't really know Ms. Hill, I always thought of her as a strict and unfun teacher. But I do know that most students really love her, I'd love do get to know her, not just as a teacher, but a friend. I know that she can be fun, she only seems strict because students like to make their own rules at times, it's just our job to follow them. Ms. Hill can and will be a great leader!!!

Ms. Hill positivity is contagious. She is a blessing to students, staff, and parents. She is always willing to go the extra mile to support anyone. She is dependable, hard working, and extremely passionate about what she’s does. Anyone that works with her will be impacted in a positive way!

Celeste Hill... How can I describe her... oh wait! She is a Phenomenal Woman! I have the pleasure of working with her at Dwight D. Eisenhower for iver 5 years and at certain events with L3 as well over the course of the same time. I have seen her bring the community to her girls so that the girls are empowered by the stories of the powerful women in the community. I have seen her make and give goody bags for the homeless in NYC. If there is someone who can balance being a mom, a daughter, a friend, a teacher, and making a difference in the community, without a doubt I would say it is Celeste Hill.

Ms.Hill is such an awesome leader, and an integral part of the school and community. Students seem to gravitate toward her, and look to her not only for leadership, but for nurturing, counseling, teaching, and a sometimes just a shoulder to lean on. She has been a mediator, administrator, educator, counselor, and mentor to so many of our students and words can not describe what an awesome person she is to work with. She expects greatness from students and supports them to be able to achieve it. So much to say for such a great lady, with such a strong impact on Laurel youth! We love and appreciate you Ms. Hill Ms.Ruffin

Where do I even start with Ms. Celeste Hill?? She is absolutely AMAZING! Her lovely spirit shines bright throughout Dwight D. Eisenhower every day! Her passion for the kids shows in everything she touches. Her students know that she's cares for them and will always be there for them no matter what. We are so blessed to have her. I am blessed to have her as someone I can look up to.

Joe Murchison Posted 9 months ago

Celeste has been having great impact on teen girls in our community for many years. I've been so impressed by her devotion and love for these girls, especially since she is a single mother who could easily focus on her own life and family.

Leslie Reyes Posted 9 months ago

I would like to start by saying that Ms. Hill DESERVES Life Changer of the Year. With the time I have worked with Ms. Hill, I have seen how BIG her heart is. She is very DEDICATED and COMMITTED to the students and parents at Eisenhower Middle School. I personally have worked with Ms. Hill when helping parents of Hispanic Origin, with translating, and sometimes the translation is not even needed because the parents can see thru her body language and the emphasis she puts on her words, that she is here to HELP and PROTECT these kids as if they were her own. The parents appreciate and understand that she is doing everything in her power to help guide the students thru school and ultimately thru life, by giving them advice and strategies that will be useful to deal with future situations.

Ms. Hill is an invaluable member of our school's Wellness Team, Attendance Committee Team, Disproportionate Suspensions Team and other supportive teams where the work of creating interventions for the most vulnerable of our students is crafted. As the school's Crisis Intervention Resource Teacher, Ms. Hill is a first respondent for students who need consistent, effective academic and emotional/behavioral support throughout the school day. Ms. Hill is very creative in her approach in finding solutions for the most challenging of our students. She has the unique ability to forge professional, supportive relationships with students who are in dire need of caring adults to motivate them and strengthen their resolve. Ms. Hill's passion for helping students extends beyond the classroom and/or hallways and is evident through her activism in the community where she engages with civic leaders to bring attention to the needs of students and families in the Laurel area.

Anissa Freeman-Jones Posted 9 months ago

Ms. Hill truly has a heart for her work. Her passion, empathy, support, and love for children is obvious. She gives 100% even when she does not feel like it. She is just as much of a support to her colleagues. It is a pleasure to work with her.

Camilla Mayo Posted 9 months ago

I have only known Ms. Hill for a little over a year, but I have no hesitation in saying that she is full of passion for young people. She has a positive, uplifting spirit and her desire to see youth move forward is clearly seen everyday in the school building. That passion spills over into the community as well which is why I especially appreciate Ms. Hill. She has been so welcoming to my daughter, who is not a student within this school. She is always inviting my daughter to participate in community events which shows me that it is not just about people that she knows well or are in her circle. Ms. Hill is simply about the business of pouring into the lives of young people, regardless of where they come from.

Diasia Atkins Posted 9 months ago

Ms. Hill is awesome at Dwight D Eisenhower Middle school. The positive relationships she builds with the students and the community displays how life changing she really is. I have watched her change students for the better and be the shoulder that students lean on when in a crisis. I have had the pleasure of going to her Annual Breast Cancer 5K walk with the DDEMS Cheerleaders. Every year, the whole community comes to support the cause and Ms. Hill to help change the lives of others. There is no one else that I can think of that would be perfect for this award but Ms. Hill!

Janet Norcome Posted 9 months ago

Ms. Hill is a fireball!!! She is an integral part of our school. I see specifically how she impacts the young women in our school. She mentors them, teaches them to process emotions safely, and teaches them etiquette. I have seen many of my students transform because of the accountability she provides them. I see ladies evolving into accountable, strong, and scholarly women because of Ms. Hill's connection with them.

My friend Celeste Hill is nothing short of AWESOME. I met Celeste 5 years ago at Dwight D Eisenhower Middle School. I knew from the moment I met her it was going to be an amazing journey. She has an electric spirit, a light that shines through the darkness. Watching Celeste calm students and repair social emotional trauma is simply a mind blowing experience. Students male and female consistently look for Ms.Hill, all throughout the day, before, during and after school. The students are angry, crying, suicidal, distraught, confused, emotional basket cases... UNTIL they reach Celeste Hill. As she goes through her restorative process the students become calm, motivated, strong, focused and ready to conquer the world. I like to think of her as Mary Poppins of Prince George's County. Her impact is far and wide. Celeste has been blessed with a gift to impact the lives if children. Many years ago she gained a guardian angel and she promised her that not one more student that reached out to her would suffer or be left alone. And I believe her. Celeste Hill is a blessing to all those that she encounters and encourages. I know that I have been blessed by her friendship.

Ms. Hill and I have been colleagues and friends for roughly 5 years now and she has never lost faith in her community. She has taken numerous strides to help Dwight D. Eisenhower Middle School, not only the school and teachers, but moreso the students, where her heart truly lies. She mentors so many young ladies of Laurel through her group Lovely Ladies of Laurel. She has become like a mother figure to these girls and she has modeled how to be a truly beautiful person inside and out to these young ladies. She has to continually change her methods and she always finds new and creative ways to challenge, teach, and guide these young ladies. When I first met Ms. Hill she was a classroom teacher and working with Special Education students and she was well loved and cared so much for these students and fought tooth and nail for their benefit, always believing that they could do anything that they set their mind to. Ms. Hill involves the community in both the positives and negatives of the school at which she works. She has never given up on her students or her lovely ladies or her colleagues. She does all these wonderful tings while having her own personal challenges, as we all have. She is such a strong lady. She stands up for what she believes in and helps those in need no matter the circumstance and does so in a way that reflects her true spirit....beautiful, fashionable, generous, and simply lovely.

I am blessed to share an office with Ms. Hill for 2 years here at Dwight D. Eisenhower. The skills I've have gleaned from Ms. Hill is something close to amazing. Ms. Hill corrects me with Love and solutions. Ms. Hill leads by example. Ms. Hill is called on during our 7 hours per day over 1 million times and she always answers with A "YESSSS"....each and every time!! Ms. Hill is restorative, she is dedicated, she is a LEADER. I work hard each day to set goals according to her recommendations. I fail a lot, and Ms. Hill is right there, every step of the way encouraging me to START over, try again, holding me accountable and showing me how to move in a loving, caring, positive fashion. Ms. Hill the "child whisperer", she has changed so many Laurel students lives who deal with so many layers of trauma. Ms. Hill does her absolute best daily to provide SUPPORT beyond what any Woman can pour out. Her cup is full, and she still gives from her saucer. It it powerful to observe her style of LOVE. Ms. Celeste Hill is my Mentor and I graduated from high school 1989 :) !!

She is a mother figure to me because she doesn't give up on me , like other people , she knows that people make mistakes and she will accept you for who you are. ms.hill is a very independent woman , and just seeing her work with people that is off the hook is amazing . She doesn't just just change their behavior but she also changes their attitude . once you mess up you would think that its over but ms.hill believes in you and she will fight for you as long as she has to just to see you move up in your life. I work w/Celeste in a different capacity. Celeste and I work together in the Adult Education Program thru PGCC. Celeste teaches English as a Second Language (ESL) Level 2 and I am her Supervisor. Let me give you some background... ESL adult Ed has levels 1-5 and what are called transition levels...reading, writing, speaking etc. The lower levels fill up first...1,2 and 3. Most people want to be in 1, 2 & 3 - as they think they don’t know enough English. It is sometimes hard to get people to move on and be challenged. Celeste has been in the program for 3-3.5 years teaching level 2... and just like her day students-the adults want to stay with her as well!! It’s hard to get people to leave level 2 and MOVE ON!!! Ummm no, I want to stay w/Ms Celeste. Beginning of the year — can I go back w/Ms. Celeste? Every teacher starts out w/ 25-32 students... Celeste is one who retains almost all of her students throughout the semester... most lose 8-10 students and we expect that. Job issues, child care issues, transportation, life happens. Still, I can’t seem to get people to leave her class!! I walk by and ALL the students are engaged talking and enjoying the class! It truly is a sight to see. I have several good teachers, a few great teachers ... I can honestly say I have a couple Awesome teachers & Ms. Celeste ESL level 2 is definitely one! I love coming to work with Celeste... Why? Because it doesn’t feel like work...she comes ready every night and you can see she loves helping people. I too am privileged to know and work w/Ms. Celeste Hill a gifted superb and talented life changer. Renè Sayles

Well I don't even know where to start Ms.Hill is just the most amazing person ever, she's been there for me ever since I met her, she's always there when I have an issue and she always knows how to make me feel better. She gives me the best advice, and she's always inspiring me to do my best in school and out of school. She's a super caring and loving person, because even when I get on her nerves, she's always there for me. I love that no matter what she's always going to inspire me to do my best so that I can be a better person. One thing that I also love about Ms.Hill is that she's always extra on things because she makes things fun. She also takes really good care of our school because, she's always making sure were in our school uniform. I love so many things about but my favorite is her personality, I love how caring and Loving she is.

The most informative and pertinent evaluation of the effectiveness of an educator/advocate is the things that kids(students) say. When students say things (consistently) like "firm", "honest", "caring", "doing better in school", "support", "positive", and "mentor" it becomes fact about the person they're describing. Kids don't come to those types of conclusions without much trial and error and consistent, hard, dedicated work. These kind of things have been said about Celeste Hill in the Laurel community for a long time. Her work as an educator and her community service efforts through L3 speak loudly to her legitimacy as a LifeChanger. She's been my colleague in Prince George's County Schools for over 10 years and I've seen the evidence of these types of interactions with students. An amazing person.

I’ve been working with Celeste for more than ten years at Dwight D. Eisenhower MS. In that time, her L3 organization has changed the lives of hundreds of girls. She never hesitates to take on just one more every time I find a new girl for her to work with. And even with all that work with her foundation, she’s always coming up with new projects to support and uplift more kids. She is a true hero for the youth of Laurel and I am proud to know her and fortunate to work with her.

This is very important for this to happens for our students to succeed today. Professional as well as being kind to all that she encounters, never denying the opportunity for students to grow and learn more about themselves. Ms. Hill goes above and beyond to support and change her community annually. This is not just a part-time job but her design and desire. I highly support her in all her endeavors.

I’m gonna take the time to say that Mrs.Hill is such an amazing, smart, reliable, and beautiful person inside and out. I met Mrs.Hill when I was in 6th grade. I was working my way into expulsion for my horrible behavior which I highly regretted. I felt like no one could understand me. My parents worked very hard jobs just to keep a roof under our heads and barely had any time for me. Everyone that came my way gave up on me. My very last hope was Mrs.Hill , I remember the first day I seen her I had no hope I remember thinking to myself “she’s not gonna last she’s gonna leave like everyone else “. I was pretty harsh on her the first few days because I just didn’t trust anyone. She would ask me questions and I wouldn’t answer & one day she sat next to me and told me some of her life experiences and I could relate to them and I opened up , slowly but Mrs.Hill became the only person that I trusted, she met my family and my family loved her and appreciated her for trying, my birthday was around the corner , December 25 Christmas and I remember she took me shopping for my birthday. A women who I wasn’t related to me spending money on me ? That was the weirdest feeling ever and she bought my family a Christmas gift too. We were grateful and I started realizing that Mrs.Hill really cared about me. She made sure I had all my school supplies and she made sure I stayed in my classes and did my work , she would check my grades and made sure I turned my work in . My teachers and other staff members couldn’t believe what they were seeing. Mrs. Hill and I would go to Denny’s to eat and we would talk about me and she would get to know me more and understand me. When I would have family issues and I wanted to break down and give up she would come get me and talk to me she never let me give up on myself , she cared about me more than I cared about myself at the time . I also remember my first time trick or treating ! I have never been trick or treating I was 15/16 and Mrs.Hill was so shocked that the day of Halloween she gave me a Halloween make over and took me trick or treating at first I was like I’m too old for this I’m not even gonna get any candy ! But I was wrong I had so much candy that night I had a sugar rush haha ! Then we ended the night by going to our spot.. Denny’s! I could go on and on about what has happened in my life where I was at my lowest and Mrs.Hill turned everything around for me she would try her hardest to make sure I would get back up , she treated me like her own daughter. Mrs.Hill is the type of person to give you her last to make sure you were straight, her advice and her knowledge makes you wanna be like her . She’s so smart, so caring ,& so generous I don’t know how she does it . I am apart of her L3 Lovely Ladies Of Laurel Mentoring program and I am very proud of her for creating this program for us . L3 has kept me from so much trouble and made me view everything differently, L3 has changed my mindset and has made me appreciate everyone that’s around me. Mrs. Hill is the true definition of a life changer and I wish everyone else could see that too . Such a strong women who’s been through so much and still managed to help others , my role model and I love her so much . My 2nd mother .

Let me start by saying how much of a privilege it is to just know Ms.Hill. Her work is infectious and her love is contagious. I have witnessed personally the passion she has for the youth today. I had two children who worked with her at two different angles; one an at risk student in her classroom and another in her girls mentorship group L3. When the bell rings, the love doesn't start or stop. She has an active role in changing the youth by being present. Present in their lives, listening to their struggles, and showing them a new path. Teaching them to respect themselves and pushing them to not only be the change in their own lives but making them have roles towards a difference in their community. She is already a life changer in her heart, I hope she is further more acknowledged with this award.

I you have the opportunity to meet her in person or would like your daughter to be her program I recommend not to hesitate because you will not regret it. Personally still in contact even though my daughter is not in the program we are still partipating in all her activities. I don’t even know where to start with ms.hill she is just the best person ever in the whole world. She is such an amazing person. I met her last year 7th grade through Haley because I remember I was having such a bad day and I remember I walked into her office and even though I didn’t know her like that she helped me that day and she gave me such great advice. Ms.hill is like the most supportive person ever . She has helped me out a lot and I don’t know where I would be right now without her. She always pushes me to be my better self in any way. If I didn’t have her in my life I would probably be in the halls right now skipping and having really bad grades but I don’t because I know that ms.hill wants the best for me. Ms.Hill is like a second mother to me literally because she is like a very smart, generous, kind hearted , caring , lovable, wise person. I love ms.hill with all my heart because she taught me to be a better person and I might make a lot of mistakes sometimes but she always gives me the best support there could ever be. Ms.hill is such a beautiful person and she makes this school better. Ms.Hill is such a beautiful woman she encourages me a lot. Ms.Hill is the type of person you go to with your problems and she makes the worry go away. Ms.Hill is such a trustworthy woman she’s one of the top people that I tell everything to. I used to be so dumb and I used to be so depressed everyday for reasons and she made me realize that I should be enjoying everyday of my life and to believe in myself and to always work myself up to the top. You can never be mad at ms.hill because you just can’t she is like I can’t even explain in words how much of a blessing she is. I love her so much and I just hope the very best for her everyday because I know that even if no one in the world can believe in me, she will. I have worked with Celeste Hill for about 10 years and have seen first hand her expertise in starting and maintaining programs/activities that positively impact the lifes of students at our middle school and the feeder high school. Her programs/activities include Lovely Ladies of Laurel (L3 -- a mentoring/support group for middle and high school girls), connecting students with powerful mentors, Step Team, charity Run, collection of clothing and prom items for students in need, and various speaking engagements in addition to her full time job as Crisis Intervention Staff in the school house. She is very well connected and uses those connections to support the students she mentors. Her pleasant demeanor and Can Do attitude in the face of many challenges as she supports students, parents, and colleagues exemplifies why she is such an awesome Life Changer! Congratulations Ms. Hill!

I just wanted to say how much I appreciate ms.hill. Let me start out with shes such an amazing person and she has such a wonderful heart! Shes such a strong independent women. Sometimes I feel like she cares more about others then herself and she gives such good advice and when you ever need someone to talk to or be there for you when ur at your worst she will always be there for u no matter what. I met ms.hill when I was in 6th grade and it was through such a bad way and me doing things I wasn’t supposed to do but we eventually got close and she changed me to be a better person. Ms.hill is like another mother to me and I’m just so glad and greatful I have a such a wonderful, amazing, outstanding person in my life. I honestly hope ms.hill the best in life from the bottom of my heart! I love her so much and she deserves everything in the world! I know god is very amazed on what she does for everyone and how she works so hard. Ms.hill has helped me so much with myself! I have such bad confidence on myself and things that go on with my life and she just boosts up my self confidence and helps me through so many things that I sometime just ask myself how can she do that. I don’t know how she does it but she has this special thing that makes her so precious. There’s many teachers who just so me as a bad person but ms.hill believes on me and other people that they can change and do good. I have learned so many things from her and I just wish everyone in the world had a ms.hill. I really do because trust me it would make such a big difference on many peoples life and in the world. Your such a good rold model and I look up to u.There’s so many other things that are so special of ms.hill but I love her so much and thank u for everything u do ms.hill and I hope one day god rewards u with everything u do. I love u very much! And thank u for being in my life.

I had the pleasure of meeting MS.Hill in middle school and we have been together ever since. Many girls have given her the name "mommy" and I truly believe she is like a second mom. She always puts her girls first and no matter what she has always been understanding and always been someone you can look for when in need. She is amazing and always finds new positive ways to bring young girls together, whether it be for the community or to get out and explore new things. Such a great role model!

I remember the first day I met Ms.hill, I did not like her a single bit because she got me in trouble and I thought she was a mean women but I was so wrong about her. As time went by I really got to know the real side of her and I was so wrong about her. She’s such an amazing incredible women. I have never met someone like Ms.Hill. Everytime I have a problem as little as it can be she’s always there for me no matter what, she gives great advice and I always some how make sure I take it because everything she tells me comes from her experience in life and she’s so positive towards everyone. Ms.hill has help me so much and I’m so grateful to have someone like her in my life. If I haven’t met her I would probably be the worst girl I could be. I really admire her because she has been through so many rough times and she’s still standing here helping others so that they can be a better person themselves. A very caring person. She never gives up on you even if you mess up, she hasn’t gave up on me ether even though I be disappointing her a lot she just never does. I truly love her she’s not only someone you can talk to but for me she’s like a second mother and always will be. This women has changed my life from bad to good. Always makes me look at the good side of life even at my worst times and I really appreciate that. She’s such a beautiful woman even though at times she’s not even confident but to me she will always look beautiful no matter what. You deserve this and so much more. I love you a lot don’t ever forget that!

It is my pleasure to acknowledge LifeChanger Celeste Hill for her dedication and support of student achievement and advancement. She possesses a calm, caring demeanor, which attracts students and peers alike. As a former colleague, I consider Celeste a friend. Since meeting her eight years ago, I have witnessed her utilize her expertise as a teacher, administrator, counselor, mentor and confidant to motivate, and encourage hundreds of male and female students’. Her reach extends outside of the school walls, as she builds a supportive community to assist students and their families with their varied needs. I applaud her devotion, continued perseverance, and ability to connect with students, all traits that merit her the title of LifeChanger!

It's difficult to find words to describe Ms. Celeste Hill. I've recently joined the Dwight Eisenhower Middle School family and have only known Ms. Hill for a few months. Working with Ms. Hill has been so valuable. She's amazing at what she does.... which is everything. Ms. Hill is a veteran educator at Eisenhower. Her experience, vast knowledge, skill and expertise show in everything that she does. She's a rock at Eisenhower. She exudes the meaning of "team player". She's there professional and personally for her students and colleagues. She's a teacher, mother, counselor, therapist, nurse, friend, administrator, custodian, security guard, secretary, and community liaison all wrapped in one firm put sweet person. Eisenhower is blessed to have her on our team. The staff and students deeply love and respect her. Everyday she does so much to impact the lives of some our most challenging students at Eisenhower. Ms. Celeste Hill is cornerstone at Dwight D Eisenhower!

I have the Honor of knowing Celeste for 20 years now. I am best friends with her cousins' daughter. Celeste has been nothing short of amazing! She has always had such a giving heart and spirit, so to be able to see her put everything she has taught me growing up into practice with all of the kids is so rewarding. What is even more rewarding is seeing her influence rub off and sit with all of the children that she comes into contact with. As they have gotten older and switched schools they all come back to visit and help her with any event she has going on. To be able to hear that Celeste, who I consider and call my Aunt, is achieving all that she has imagined not only for herself but for our future generations to come always makes me excited to see what is next. I have been blessed to see her in action first hand with the kids...I wished to have been able to have such opportunities and as much guidance from more adults growing up in the school system. I've been nothing short of blessed to have her in my life as a shoulder to cry on, moral support, cheerleader, guidance counselor, and aunt. If anyone deserves the LifeChanger of the Year Award for doing just that, changing lives, it's Celeste. She will forever and always have my nomination.

Ms.Hill is like a mother a friend someone i can just go and talk too she is SOO AMAZING , i never really thought i needed someone like her in my life . She really takes time out her day and weekends to pick me up and go places with her and help out in the community . She has taught me to be more confident with myself . I didn’t know what i was doing with my life before she came into it . Just her talking me and me listening to her talk about her life and her experience makes me reflect on so much . She is just an inspiration , she can be going threw a lot of things and still make the time to be there for you . She sees good in you , she believes you can do a lot of things that no else believes you can . Every time i’m with her talking she always makes me cry because i can talk to her so easily and she won’t judge me for what i did or what i’m doing . We also be laughing so much about random things . She takes time to look for people to come talk to us about anything . Relationship , Family Problems , Personal Issues , etc . But all those things are important to me but she really doesn’t have to do anything for us but she still does and takes time to do it . Every Thursday we stay after school and she talks to us and catch up with us . That’s someone to me is someone that really cares . She is so trustworthy , lovable , REAL , accepting because she accepts you for who you are she never try’s to change you but improve you and bring that LIGHT out of you . She can be the one person that believes in you in a room full of people and she would show it to you . She is so encouraging , and beautiful inside and out and even though she be saying she looks ugly sometimes , she really don’t she always looking GORGEOUS !! I believe that God put her in my path for a reason and i’m just so grateful to have her in my life especially in my teens years when i don’t know what i’m doing , and that’s something i appreciate from the bottom of my heart . Thank sooo Much & I love you so much Ms.Hill ????

I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to see “Ms.Hill” from two sides. One as a mother, and two as a powerful community figure that impacted way over a thousand lives in her own and surrounding communities. I have seen my mom turn failures into success stories, turn the hopeless to the promising, turn the weak into the strong, make ways out of no way, and be a blessing and miracle worker in all the lives of the people around her. She accomplishes everything she puts her mind to and always fights for what is right, fair, and just. The number of lives that have been affected by her love, compassion, and devotion is too much to recall. Everyday she attempts to better the life of someone around her and everyday she succeeds. She never lets any situation that she is dealing with personally affect her changing someone else’s life for the better. A lot of the youth and young adults in Laurel, Maryland and it’s surrounding communities got where they are and became who they are today with help from Ms.Hill. Everything she touches turn to gold; everything she attempts turns to success. The love I have witnessed my mother give her students, her family, myself, her work, and her passion has no limit. No matter who you are or how bad your situation is she will never give up on you and stick by your side until the end. She never expects or asks for anything in return, everything she does comes from the heart. Speaking from personal experience and from witnessing up close and personal, my mom Celeste Hill aka Ms. Hill is a phenomenal mother, extraordinary mentor, magnificent teacher, amazing community figure, and all around spectacular individual. I’m sure there are other amazing individuals nominated for this award, but nobody deserves it more than this woman right here.

We all will agree that working with children, especially youngsters in middle school , is God's work and it is a calling. Ms. Hill has answered the call. I watch Ms. Hill interact, nurture, encourage, stand by , and motivate students. She has a beautiful smile and a happy spirit so students automatically want to be in her program. The most important character trait is caring, to give love and to give positive attention. So, most of all, Ms. Hill is caring. She never gives up on ANY student. I have seen her work with the most challenging students and they give her respect immediately. Students know immediately when you care about them. I would like to recommend Ms. Hill for the LifeChanger Award. Her relentless work has motivated me and other educators around her.

I have the privilege to be a classroom neighbor with Celeste, and I see, daily, her positive interactions with students. Young people stop talking and actually listen to her. They are not trying to explain themselves, they are not arguing, they are not getting frustrated. Celeste stays a part of their lives, beyond her school walls, as a community leader, and organizer. When students graduate and move on, they continue to stay connected to her. There is no question that Celeste Hill is a LifeChanger..

Elizabeth Farkas Posted 10 months ago

Hello everyone, my name is Elizabeth. I’ve known Celeste M Hill for most of her life. Celeste is/was my next door neighbor here in NJ. To me, she’s practically family. She’s always finding ways in looking at the good in people that are struggling in their daily life. She’s been a mentor to so many young girls who actually had no one to turn to. Many thought, they couldn’t achieve their goals or even know how to strive to attain them. Somehow, someway Celeste refused to give up on them!! As a result, these young girls/young women were able to believe in themselves again! They were able to come out of their “protective shell.” A shell, that refused to crack open. As a result, a brand new, magical person shined! In my humble opinion, I do believe that Celeste M Hill deserves this honor. Not only for herself, but for future girls who need to find their own self confidence. Thank you for your time, Elizabeth Farkas
