Devrick Brown was nominated by two family members, Dawn Brown and Jennifer Carter, as well as a friend, Cheyenne Rivera.

Mr. Brown is such a great, loving, hard-working individual. He shows passion and pride in teaching children, and he loves seeing the children engaged in different educational activities. He loves putting a smile on each one of his student's faces. You can definitely tell how much he enjoys teaching these children. He develops great leadership and role model skills, and he sets a good example for his students to follow. He makes sure the children are always on good behavior and learning something new every day.

Mr. Brown loves seeing the children reach new goals whether it is getting better at doing math, writing, etc. He is a LifeChanger for these children because he makes them want to learn, ask questions, and not be afraid to speak up. He is often seen during his breaks mentoring students from other classes who may be having a rough day, or those who need a strong male role model to coach them along the way.

Mr. Brown extends this help to his colleagues. He is extremely helpful to all his colleagues, and is always willing to lend a hand, whether it's before or after school.

Mr. Brown is a colleague of mine. He is the person you want working in your classroom with your students because he is so positive and vivacious! He makes a conscious effort to be a good role model for the students as well. And he always has a smile for his colleagues even in passing in the hallway!

Devrick has been a brother of mine for going on 10 years. He inspires me because of the Passion that we both share for working with and helping kids. He understands that the children are our people of tomorrow and it Takes A Village to raise a child. We will do some work dealing with sports and children in the community soon #SlimRichAthletics. Congrats brother.

Destiny Karis Posted 7 months ago

I've had the pleasure of knowing Devrick since he was a little baby spending his summers at the community pool. I've gotten to see Devrick grow from a mild mannered and timid baby, to a curious and active child who was always into playing sports, to a very mild tempered fun loving teenager who has always had a knack for getting his peers to do the right thing, to a grown man with exceptional leadership skills and a love for helping children. Devrick is the oldest of 4 in his family. Over the years he has helped take care of his 3 younger siblings, numerous cousins, niece's and nephew's, and many/any kids from the neighborhood who needed help, someone to talk to or just to play basketball with them in the driveway till their parents got home. Devrick now has a beautiful family of his own. He holds very high morals and is dedicated to giving his family his all. He is a God fearing man who has always put others first. What I'm trying to say is that if anyone deserves to win this award, it would be Devrick. Not because he really wants it, but because he has worked his butt off since he was little to make everyone around him happy and to make everybody feel better about themselves. I would like to say thank you to Devrick. My kids and I love you and thank you for everything you have ever done for us. Good luck and keep being AWESOME!!!! #LCOY

Devrick is my younger cousin. I’ve known him his whole life. I’m so proud of the man he has become. He’s a hard worker and dedicated to his family. I enjoy seeing the love he gives when he interacts with all the children in the family. You can tell he has a desire for children to be heard, understood, and feel loved. His warm spirit is a blessing to be around and my kids enjoy every interaction with him. I know this same nature can only extend into his work environment, as this is genuinely who he is. When he shares about his students, he refers to them as “his babies” with the biggest smile on his face. He has definitely found his passion in touching the lives of children, whether it be teaching or showing children he understands and loves them. Devrick is truly a life changer for this younger generation.

Mr. Brown is such a selfless, patient, kind, and dedicated educator! He has an inherent passion for teaching and making children’s lives better! Life Changer of the century!

Rebecca Nichols Posted 8 months ago

When you watch Mr. Brown interact with students you know he was born to teach young children the skills needed to process their emotions, all the while encouraging them to learn to their highest capabilities. His patience when working with students with behavior goals is exceptional. He has a calm demeanor and students feel safe. He guides them to identify their behaviors that aren't socially acceptable and provides resources and tools for students to express themselves in a safe and socially acceptable manner. Students who enter his classroom with a reputation for being challenging quickly learn how to monitor their bodies and minds in order to be available for instruction and the challenging behaviors quite often disappear. Because he has given them the tools and resources, they are able to carry this throughout their life, and not just when Mr. Brown is around. He is truly a LifeChanger.

Devrick, is a longtime friend of mine. He a lot of times I see the love shown too the kids he teaches. I know when I see his true passion, teaching is showing it. When a teacher goes above & beyond, it tends to mold the children far as teaching. He's doing a great job. He should win, but further keep grooming them kids to greater. - Tyree A.
