Debra Delliskave was nominated by an anonymous student.

"At the beginning of my seventh grade year, I was in a honors class for math. Having always been in honors classes, I was content with where I was, and was happy with my classes," said the student. "However, my sister had Ms. Delliskave for advanced math a couple years prior to me, and she insisted I take her class, too. The only way to have her as a teacher was to be in a higher math class. After taking a placement test and talking to Ms. Delliskave, I was enrolled in the class. Not only does she push me, among other students, to higher expectations of themselves, but she has an engaging style of teaching."

Ms. Delliskave often has group projects that incorporate teamwork, communication skills and time management into her classroom. These projects, balanced with individual work time, have allowed students to grow and mature throughout her class.

"I saw that these habits of last year translated into my life when my math teacher would give us individual work time, and instead of messing and joking around with my friends, I would actually work on the homework assigned," said the student. "Ms. Delliskave also often played music in her classroom, creating a 'homey' feel to encourage students to stay engaged and continue to motivate themselves. Overall, I learned not only math, but life skills that continue to help me throughout my school experience. Ms. Delliskave is an example to all, and I hope to be like her one day."

I have Ms. Delliskave this year, I love the way she teaches and she changed my perspective in math. I did not feel that I understood math really well, but now I am happy to come to each class! I have siblings that enjoyed her class too! I hope she wins this award because she changed my life as a student.

Jayne Laub Posted 8 months ago

Last year I had a really hard time with math, I've never really understood it. I was nervous to go into 7th grade math because i didn't want to fail. I got into Ms. Delliskave helped me understand what I was doing. I've never had a teacher like Ms. Delliskave. She really knows how to help struggling students. Unlike other teachers who have a hard time getting the classes attention, Ms. Delliskave knows how to get the attention of her students, which makes the learning environment so much easier to learn in. She uses different ways to help make math more fun, and easy to remember. Last year in math i didn't get the best scores on my tests, and now I'm getting the best scores i've ever gotten. She is one of the most thoughtful, and caring teachers I've ever had, she's really changed the way I think of math. She encourages me to be a better student, and go above and beyond.

Cameron Posted 8 months ago

Delliskave was my math teacher last year. The way she taught the information made it so I was able to remember really well. I also have siblings that had a good experience with her and had a lot of fun learning.

Tyler Strong Posted 8 months ago

I have never been that good at math I know that i am smarter then some people but when i was in 6th grade and I had a good teacher I just didn't understand the way he taught. I got confused and got bad grades on a lot of stuff. Then it was summer then we went back to school, I new that Mrs. Delliskave was really good because my brother had her the year before. Now i am getting good grades because she teaches and cares for all of her students and i have really changed because of her. Now i know and understand what she teaches and now i know. She has really changed my life even though she might be in a bad mood because it is the end of the day she is still really good and pushes herself to be good to her student and to all the faculty members. When i was in 6th grade I was always depressed and had bad grades now in 7th grade i have her for 6th period and I am no cheerful and delightful and i understand what she is teacher. This is why i think that she has really changed me.

In my years of school, I’ve had both positive and negative experiences with teachers. Mrs. Delliskave is a teacher that I will absolutely remember as one of the best. She’s extremely funny and smart, as well as kind. I remember constantly smiling and laughing in her class, and having a wonderful time. She taught very well, and showed multiple ways to do problems if somebody was unsure. I remember genuinely enjoying learning about math, and felt comfortable asking questions if I needed to. Ms. Delliskave, if you’re reading this, I want you to know I truly thank you for making 7th grade math so great. I’ve learned so much from you and truly am grateful I had you as a teacher. - Autumn, a now 10th grader.

Sara Posted 8 months ago

Mrs. Delliskave is the best math teacher or teacher that I have ever had. She has pushed me so much to make me love math. I've hated math for many years. I never thought that I could ever come to enjoy it. I love how we never memorize things in math. We understand them, we look at the patterns to see what this math is the way that it is. Mrs. Delliskave has changed me for the better. My life is completely different now. I want to be a math teacher, like her. I want to see faces of kids that understand math, that not only understand it, but come to love it. I can't believe how much I have changed over time. How much I see math so differently. I never thought that patterns were important in math, but now I know that make up so much of what math is. She is not only a teach, not just a math teacher. She is like family. Always making sure that we are safe and happy. That we make the right choices in life and that we have a good education that will lead to a great future. Mrs. Delliskave has changed my life not only in math, but to be a better person for the future.

Joselynn Morales and Miya Meza Posted 8 months ago

Ms. Delliskave is my current math teacher and overall she pays attention more to the students who are struggling the most (in a good way). If you ever were to see her teach you would be surprised on how the students have grown in her class including myself. She tries to help the kids that are struggling with either school problems, or home problems. She understands when you have an issue or problem at home/school and can somewhat relate to the kids who are struggling because she was struggling as well. I think having a good relationship between her students could help because she could understand what going on in their life. Overall in her teaching she teaches in a way everyone can understand and contribute. Ms. Delliskave is one of those teachers that will make you absolutely love math or the subject they're teaching. Even though she's my 7th grade math teacher I feel like she can't ever beat any other math teacher in my future years. I wasn't very bright in math in my past years, and I can tell I've improved from all F's in math to A's in math. You can count on her to improve students learning and understanding in math. I'm glad to see her nominated for 'LifeChanger of the year" because she's proved that you don't need memorization to know math, she teaches in different ways to solve advanced and complicated equations and teaches you how to solve them. In other words she makes math more interesting and less boring them most teachers teach. I just wanna thank her for giving everyone a chance to "turn around" and "fix their ways" helping kids and slowing down for those who need extra help or that don't understand the topic. Thank you Ms. Delliskave for letting me change and prove that I can be good at math. (sorry for any grammatically wrong errors)

Mrs. Delliskave is the best teacher i've ever had. I had her for a math lab, and I don't like math much, but she made math interesting. I learned more math under her guidance, then I ever learned under any other teacher. She was kind and, respectful, and taught me much of what i know in math. She has been an inspiration and a wonderful person. She would always help me understand, and I never came across a problem that she couldn't help me with. She is truly the best math teacher ever.

Ms. Delliskave is is probably the best math teach i've ever had. She pushes you you be your best, and regularly makes you get creative with your math. She is a fun, energetic teacher that you can enjoy being around. She's almost always understanding and chill, willing to give you lenience. If you are eager to learn and a good student, she is perfect. If you aren't, but willing to improve, she will work with you and help you get better. She is an amazing, kind, and charitable individual who rewards and recognizes excellence, all in the tough position of math teacher.

Ms. Delliskave was my math teacher last year. She was really great. When I was first starting the school year I was in honors class. Everything we were doing was not very challenging and I was pretty bored. Then Ms.Delliskave asked if I would like to move to the compacted class. I said yes and in the second term I was moved into the compacted. She made math class very fun and interesting. I was now doing things that I didn't know and were challenging me to do more thinking and to try sometimes many times to solve the problem right. She was always challenging us to do harder stuff and to keep trying. She also made sure we got our work in on time and understood everything she taught us. Whenever we had questions or needed help she was ready and willing to help us as much as was needed. She also taught us about diversity and how important school is and to treat others equally. All in all she was an amazing teacher and helped me have a wonderful school year.

I had her last year in 7th grade, and Mrs. Delliskave was by far one of my absolutely favorite teachers of all time. She dedicated her time to helping each and every student. I was in an honors class, but I breezed through it thanks to Mrs. Delliskave. She made sure everyone understand the topic and the concept. It was a lot of fun, and the assignments were always enjoyable. The class was interactive, and we often worked as groups, which helped me learn to communicate better, something I had a problem with. Mrs. Delliskave encouraged me and made the class worthwhile. If I didn't understand something,n all I had to do was ask and she would help me. Mrs. Delliskave is extremely effective with her teaching methods. She improved my skills in math. Her class was an experience I won't ever be able to forget.

Deb is an amazing teacher and colleague. As a first year teacher, I've really appreciated her willingness to help me with anything I might need. She stays late almost every day, and often gives up her lunch break as well, to work with kids and plan engaging lessons. She gives 150% for her students, and it shows. Her students always tell me how much they appreciate her and how much they learn from her. I can't think of anyone more deserving of this award!

She flawlessly combined technology and solid old school teaching to help everyone in her class individually learn the topics needed. Not only this, but she also had a fun personality and constantly tried her best to develop a personal relationship with each and every student, making sure that they were in a position to learn and enjoy it. This, coupled with pure and sheer commitment to her job, added up to a learning experience that I will never forget.

She was an amazing teacher. I am in 8th grade now, and she taught me so well, that i know lots of stuff that some others students that had others teachers don't know. I got an A in math all thanks to Mrs deliskave. She gave lots of details on each thing, and instead of giving answers she gave information on why something worked. She would tell you why something was working and the equatioan with an explination of why it was like that.

Rian M. Liew Posted 8 months ago

At the start of my 7th grade year, I was in the honors class, which for me was not very challenging or fun. At the beginning of second quarter, Mrs. Delliskave offered to let me into the advanced compacted class, along with several other of my peers. The advanced class made me really enjoy math. Delliskave pushed me to do better, not only in math, but when interacting with others. The lessons I learned in her class, I can apply in all of my studies, for the rest of my life. She is one of the best teachers I have had, and I know that she has changed my life, and will continue to for the rest of my time at Midvale Middle.

I learned lessons form her that I would never have learned any other place. Her teaching form and grace made my brain excited for the learning of the IB program. If I could I would go to her class again and again.

I learned many life skills that improved my learning such as not talking when I'm supposed to be working and working together to solve problems.

Connor Walton Posted 8 months ago

Ms. Delliskave is an amazing teacher. She posts videos on what we did that day so if I am stuck on how to do a problem or I missed her class that day, I can go back and review. She helped me achieve my full potential and fought for me to move from honors 7th grade to her 8th grade compacted class. Ms. Delliskave often showed the call many tricks to remember formulas and how to do equations. She taught me how to manipulate exponential equations personally because I was not understanding how to do it.

Braxton Judson Posted 8 months ago

Mrs. Delliskave has always been there for students who struggle, and has always told them and tought them how to shape up. I had her last year and when i first started in her class i had always been a disruptive student. But later in the year she pushed me and eventually taught me how to persevere even more. Now i enjoyed her so much i went back for her for another year as her TA. All in all, she has all around helped many people learn how to keep going.

Matt Sebahar Posted 8 months ago

Mrs deliscave is a great teacher, and she went above and beyond to help some students to get into compacted math even when they had failed the test at first. She gave it too them again as she had seen that they were "valid" to be in the compacted math class. Once they were in the class, she helped them to catch up and brought them up to what the people had learned that year. When in the class the students succeded and she had tons of students but was still able to teach what was she was supposeed to do and then tought us even more. She would make sure that everyone understood and if they didn't she would put videos and practice assignemnts to make sure that everyone had the best learning experience possible.

Satwik Chavakula Posted 8 months ago

Though I actually did not have Delliskave as a teacher, I heard many good things about her from my friends and from what I heard she seemed like a great person and a great teacher. According to my friends, She didn't help them memorize math but she actually helped teach it to them so they would understand it. They enjoyed her teaching style and the also loved her not only as a teacher but as a person. So, though I didn't actually have her as a teacher, I would say if I did, I probably would have enjoyed her class just as much as my friends had. -Satwik Chavakula.

Mrs. Delliskave was an amazing math teacher. She was willing to go out of her way to catch a student up, and was willing to make shure we all understood, while still keeping things moving forward. She was strict, but not mean, and allways made it clear that she was acting out of kindness, and wanting to keep us going forward.

Abraham Park Posted 8 months ago

I never actually had Mrs. Delliskave, but I heard from others that she is a a very good math teacher. I could see others improving in their math grades in her class. Some would have C's and D's in 6th grade, but had A's and B's in 7th grade from her. Everyone I asked said they liked her, even the ones who don't care about school. I really do think she deserves this award.

Saisha Vanayalapati Posted 8 months ago

Mrs. Delliskave is an amazing teacher who has been helping many people advance in their math so that they would have better skills in high school. I understood how good of a teacher she was. She set upon rules of discipline that were fair to every student that allowed them to learn from their consequences and be be prepared to apply their learning into high school as well as the rest of their life.

Mrs. Delliskave is my best math teacher ever. She pushed all of her students as hard as she could no matter how hard they resisted. She worked us hard but always balanced it with stories. Delliskave was one of the best teachers. She was always really kind and always helping us with our work. She worked really hard to make sure that we understood what we were learning about. She entirely deserves the Life changer award.

Campbell Hone Posted 8 months ago

Mrs. Delliskave changes the way I think about math. She focuses on growth mindset, a philosophy which embraces and even celebrates mistakes, in order to progress learning. From her support and focus on explicitly teaching kids it is completely understandable to fail and how to learn and grow from it, students learn to be proud of their their work and persevere even though struggles. By the time they leave the class, even the most insecure math students leave with the highest capability they can achieve

Mrs.Delliskave has been by far the most influential and supportive teacher. Out of my 13 years of living, I would definitely say she has taught me the most amount of math every. This isnt to sound clingy, but its true. I was a real lazy student in math, and she made that switch around. Easily she would be a teacher I would want to teach math every year.

Ms. delliskave made math so much easier. I believe she is the best math teacher at our school.

Maximilian Kratz Posted 8 months ago

My teachers that I have had the last couple years of elementary haven't been the best with math. I was just thrown in to a harder and more strict math class that I ended up with a B or C in at the end of the year. Mrs. Delliskave teaches math in a way that makes sense. With memorizing, the math just enters your head, you get a good grade on the test, and then the math just flies through the other side. Now, I can actually remember what I have learned. I could barely remember long division when I got into 6th grade, which I had used a ton in 4th and 5th grade. This way is teaching is much better and Mrs. Delliskave really is a life changer.

Mrs.Deliskave is hands down the best math teacher i have had. When i was failing she only challenged me harder and put me into an honors class. I have no idea how it worked but it did and i kept mostly A's for Math all year.

kason james baker Posted 8 months ago

ms.Delliskave may be harsh on grading in the end of the year, but she only wants to see you improve, i would know, because at the end of the year i kinda flunked by being way too lazy, she offered assistance but i refused, and learned the hard way that being lazy is not that great, but now in 8th grade and i am trying to the best of my ability to improve, not only my math skills, but as well as my spirit and co-operation with others.

Ms.Delliskave is an amazing teacher because she always helped her students when they needed it and make class fun and made every one have a fun time in her class but when we needed to work we would.

Patrick A. Oviatt Posted 8 months ago

Mrs.Delliskave is the best math teacher I have ever had. She encourages he students to go above and beyond what they think they can do. She really does care about her students and if they are participating in the class. Unlike most teachers I have had Mrs.Delliskave cares about her students. If a student isn't participating most teachers would just send them away or ignore them and keep teaching, not Delliskave. She would talk to them about why they are disrupting and try to help. She has personally changed my life by helping me understand the math she teaches us. Before 7th grade I was a memorizer. I would memorize equations and formulas but for years my teachers have all said that I struggle with showing my work. This is because I would know the formulas and equations but not when to use them or why they worked. Now I can show my work and solve advanced equations that last year I would have never been able to solve. She has not only has Mrs. Delliskave taught me math skills she has taught me life skills and social skills that I will likely use for the rest of the 80-90 years that I have left in this life. Now all jokes aside, I strongly believe that Mrs. Delliskave not only deserves this award but she should have been nominated for this award many many times.

Ms.Delliskave has changed the way I looked at math. Before I was in her class I did not like math and always dreaded going to it. However, now I look forward to math class and it is my favorite class. Also, she has made me look at math in a new way. I used to just memorize things and forget them memorize and forget them and so on. But, since I have been in her class I have started understanding things better and don't need to memorize.

Mrs. Deleskave is amazing. She taught us the math, and didn’t make us memorise it like teachers I’ve had in the past. In her class I’ve learned more in math in this half of the year than any other full year in any other grade. I’m my class I’ve reached new heights I didn’t think were possible! Not only does she help students learn, she spends time getting to know and messing with her students. She doesn’t make people feel bad about themselves, if anything she makes them feel better and more confident. Mrs Deleskave also makes everyone laugh and have a good time. I enjoy her class very much, and if I could I would take it again, and again, and again. She is such and inspiration to me and my peers. My sister had her the year before me and she would tell me how great of a teacher she was, and being in this class I see was she meant. I don’t think it’s possible to ask for a better teacher to teach this subject.

I've worked with Debra for several years at Midvale MS. She has an amazing ability to reach students in every part of the spectrum, from the high achievers to the students currently performing below grade level. She bridges gaps and reaches ALL students. She inspires, helps and encourages with kindness, clarity and high expectations and she gets results every year. She's amazing!

Madaline Chilcutt Posted 8 months ago

Ms. Delliskave is extremely dedicated, often working long past contract time to prepare for the next day. She video records her math lessons so that students who are absent can view the lesson from home or upon returning to school. This has been very helpful to our students because we have a high rate of students who are excessively absent. Ms. Delliskave is effective with the students who are tough to reach. She sets high expectations and helps her students succeed. Deb Delliskave is a life changer!

Debra is an educator that inspires. She not only inspires her students, but she inspires those around her. I have personally felt this inspiration when I have talked with her about teaching and when I have seen her advocating for our students. She is always willing to go the extra mile for our students. I am honored that I get to teach with her, and more importantly, learn from her.

Ms. Delliskave is a dedicated teacher who's passion for teaching shines through all she does. She believes every student can succeed and deserves equal opportunities. Ms. Delliskave is a true advocate for all students.

Ms.Delliskave is an amazing teacher. She is the kind of teacher that doesn't go the path that other teachers take, she chooses her own path and always looks for what is better for her students, and these kind of teachers are extremely rare to find. She has shown me to believe in my self and I have always admired her for her courage. She has taught me that there can be multiple ways to solve a math problems, and all of the methods that I have learned throughout my life are just memorizing methods, and she is absolutely right! She taught us that there more to just memorizing problems, you can solve them multiple times with different methods. Thank you so much Ms.Delliskave! You really have changed my life and perspective on math for the greater good!

Deb Delliskave is one of the most inspiring teacher I have ever met. She has taught me so much about what it takes to be an effective, and compassionate teacher.

Emily Posted 8 months ago

Ms. Delliskave really cares about her students and builds great relationships with them where they know she has their best interests at heart. I teach a grade older than her, and when I'm having trouble with an extra difficult kid, I send them back to Ms. Delliskave for a period to chat with her and be accountable to her for the choices they are making. They come back ready to try every time.

Bethanne Lenhart Posted 8 months ago

Deb Delliskave changes the way students think about math. She focuses on growth mindset, a philosophy which embraces and even celebrates mistakes, in order to progress learning. From her support and focus on explicitly teaching kids it is ok to fail and how to reflect and learn from it, students learn to be proud of their efforts and persevere even though it is hard. By the time they leave the class, even the most insecure math students leave with more confidence and belief in themselves.

Deb is an outstanding educator who goes above and beyond to help her students. She has high expectations for all her students and consistently provides the support that students need to meet those expectations.

Debra is an amazing educator! When contemplating switching from teaching on the elementary level to the middle school level I decided I would only make the change if I could teach at the same school as Debra. She has supported me in the switch and helped me realize my potential as a middle school teacher. I am blessed to be working with her. I also have and have had the opportunity of having her teach my own children. Her way of connecting with my kids is amazing. They have learned skills to help them be successful in their future educational experiences. They learned to love learning in her class and make positive connections with Debra. My family is appreciate of Mrs. Delliskave and her support of us. I am happy to take this opportunity to say that she has changed the life of my three kids and myself.

Ms. Delliskave is an amazing teacher. She is a mentor and leads our staff towards improving instruction. She is a key player in our staff culture and in building morale. As a new teacher to Midvale, she has been an enormous help in training on how to best approach our population. She is a huge asset and a blessing to work with.

Abbi Goldberg Posted 8 months ago

Deb is an inspiration to me as a teacher. I rarely hear from my students about other teachers, with the exception of Deb. She has the respect of both her students and the teachers at her school. I aspire to be as tough, kind, funny, and heartfelt as her. She holds her students to the highest standard and it shows. They learn, they understand, and they gain the confidence that they can not only do math, but excel at it. I feel incredibly lucky to work with her and although I teach history, I love math, and know that the students that I love are in good hands when they move on.

I covered Deb's class one day, and based on how well-behaved and hard-working the students were with me there, it was quite apparent to me that they not only respect her, but they also love her class! They demonstrated how hard they work by staying on-task the entire period and completing their tests, and not only this knowledge, but also the work ethic can be attributed to the high standards she sets for her students. I respect her immensely and I appreciate what she does to make school a welcoming place for not only the students but also her fellow colleagues!

David Parker Posted 8 months ago

Ms. Delliskave is an amazing person in addition to being a fantastic teacher. I know several students who adore her, and she's made a lasting impact on them. Even after they move on to other grades they refer to her as their favorite. As an employee she has taken the time to get to know me personally and help me feel comfortable in my role.

Karlie Aardema Posted 8 months ago

Deb is a great educator. She truly understands her core subject and her students. She is creative in ways that she teaches them and tries to teach them in a way that they would understand. She is able to see the end goal for students and work backwards when she plans. She also strives to think outside the box when solving school wide concerns. She has had a long and successful career and students from years ago still talk about her and love to come visit her. Deb is very deserving of this award!
