Robert Stevens was nominated by an anonymous colleague, who says it's been a pleasure watching him develop into the educator that he is today.
Mr. Stevens' passion is helping students and people succeed. He serves as a mentor and helped start a mentoring program between students and teachers at his school. He is also a valuable member of the READY initiative advisory board, which helps inner-city students be more prepared for life beyond high school.
Mr. Stevens has been at Varina High School for three years as an administrator and has made genuine connections with the students, parents, and staff from day one. He serves on many initiatives at Varina, including the PBIS team, the School Improvement Committee, and the Safety Committee, which he oversees. He shows a strong commitment to student achievement and academic excellence. Mr. Stevens pushes students to put forth their best effort and prides himself with leaving students with life lessons inside and outside of the class.
Outside of Varina, when he is not with his wife and three children, he serves on the University of Richmond’s Educational Leadership Advisory Board. He also participates in AdvancED external accreditation audits, coaches youth basketball, and is a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, where he was recently the local chapter’s Vice President.
"Mr. Stevens is changing lives daily. He is the type of leader you would want to work for and work with," said his nominator.
