Music that Describes Tracey Elaine

Tracey Elaine Pitts was nominated by an anonymous student.

"Mrs. Pitts was my 8th grade English teacher, and she was, by far, one of the best teachers I have ever had," said her nominator. "Test scores show one thing about a teacher, but student engagement in the classroom shows another side. Mrs. Pitts led the way at Madras Middle for both sides. Every single day, we were on the edge of our seats, ready to learn more and participate."

Mrs. Pitts connects with students, speaks with them after classes, and asks how they're doing. Middle school can be a weird and awkward time, so Mrs. Pitts set a goal to help students get through the emotional part of middle school. Her personality is on another level, as well. No matter what area of the school she's in, the energy changes because of her positivity and her humor. In the classroom, she provides that same energy to students. She tries to be a light in their lives while also being a mentor. She encourages students when they succeed, and when students make a mistake, she'll speak with them privately and provide a way to fix their mistakes.

As far as leadership goes, Mrs. Pitts was a team leader for many years. She was in charge of holding meetings with a certain section of teachers that shared the same students, and they discussed how to further reach the students. Today, as a connections teacher, she created and sponsors the theater club at Madras Middle.

"Mrs. Pitts was not only a good teacher, but a morally good person," said her nominator. "Although she never directly said that in class, you could tell she was a good person by the way she acted."

Tracey Pitts is an outstanding educator and role model who lives life to the fullest and extends her enthusiasm to all she meets. Dynamic, innovative, and passionate in her teaching, Tracey constantly strives for students and colleagues to become critical thinkers and doers! She ensures that all her students feel safe and respected, and she is concerned and genuinely interested in any child's well-being.Tracey is always willing to tackle responsibilities/duties with the utmost diligence, and she will not give up on any child regardless how difficult the situation, experience,or environment may be. Tracey has a special gift-working with children. She develops a positive rapport with each student she encounters. Her former students are thrilled when they see her in passing and constantly talk about their "awesome" experiences in her class.A caring, gentle, and compassionate individual, Tracey gives without reservation, unselfishly and with a sincere joy in giving. Tracey Pitts has now taught/interacted with all 4 of my children and has been a blessing to our family. She goes beyond the job daily, finding ways to reach students where they are and encourage their overall growth. Teaching is a calling, not a profession for her and she exemplifies that in her willingness to spend extra time and effort to help her students find their gifts and passions. Her unique personality and zest for life carry over into her classroom. Students are seeking role models who are passionate and determined to lead them to their best selves. Tracey has the ability to find the students that need her the most, to draw them out of their often difficult and emotional situations. In a world where culture tends to elevate those who are the wealthiest, talk loudest about their own merits, or live lives of luxury and fame, someone like Tracey works quietly year after year, loving her students and caring for their needs in and out of the classroom. Our school is a better place for her presence, and as a peer I can say with a doubt that she is more than eligible for this nomination.

Tracey E. Pitts is a person of deep insight for seeing the best and potential in an individual. I have known and worked with her since 1998, and during these years I have seen time-after- time Tracey taking under her wing individual students who had their own public and sometimes private struggles. Many of these students had emotional problems, economic struggles, and felt like social outcasts. They felt that no one cared for them, or that no one could see them as an individual and that cycle for them would never change. Tracey placed her heart of love and compassion around each individual and helped them see that they had worth. Because of her sincere love for the individual and for seeing beyond the negative forces at work, she not only was influential in helping to bring change in the life course of that individual, but also the lives of those for whom this individual helped to influence for the positive in his/her future. When you look at this “domino effect” taking place in countless young people Tracey has influenced, you can see why Tracey E. Pitts is a worthy candidate for the 2019-2020 Life-Changer of the Year Award.

Tracey Pitts has the unique gift of being able to bring out qualities and talents in students that they themselves did not know they possess. It is her passion for teaching combined with her committment to her students that creates an environment for them to not only learn curriculum but also to learn about who they are and discover the gifts they each have inside themselves. As the registrar at the middle school, I receive requests from students at the beginning of each quarter from students asking to switch out of Tracey's Language Enrichment/Drama class. Each time, I have them meet with Tracey and discuss their apprehensions for taking this class. She explains to them that there is a role for every personality type in her class and persuades them to see how it goes the first week. After that first week, I have never had a single student come back to me saying that they still want to transfer out. Quite the opposite, I have those students come and tell me how excited they are to be a part of this class, that they are doing things that they never imagined they would do or that they would enjoy. She guides them on a path of self discovery to find out more of who they are, what they believe and how to share their ideas, and opinions. At the end of each quarter, these students come out of her class holding their heads a little higher, and their smiles a little brighter. There are so few opportunites to not only teach a course but to also teach the spirit or our students. Tracey Pitts takes full advantage of this opportunity each and every day, she is the definition of a real Life Changer

Tracey Pitts is one of the most exceptional people I have ever met. She is definitely the choice for Lifechanger of the Year, because she has been that for me for over a decade. Over the last year, Tracey and I were moved to the same teaching team so we had the same schedule. I have been able to be loved on and encouraged even more than I ever had before. She is an incredible educator and such a positive influence on students and teachers. She is a woman of strong character and one who I would trust with my life. She is someone who will definitely make a difference in our community and our world. I highly recommend her for this honor.

Tracey Pitts is an exceptional teacher and an obvious choice for the Lifechanger of the Year. Tracey has the rare ability to connect with any student and colleague personally, without exception. She uses her strong, extroverted personality to open up to her students and allows them to reciprocate in kind. Tracey personally guided me during my first year teaching at a middle school, acting both as my team leader and as a great friend, and I know her as a woman of great character who always puts her students first.

Tracey is with without a doubt an invaluable teacher and coworker! I’ve had the privilege of working with her for eleven years now, and it’s been nothing short of a positive experience. She welcomed me right off the bat and checked in on me daily to ask about my general well-being and to see if I needed help with anything. Even now, she never neglects to remind her coworkers to take care of themselves in order to be able to take care of the students. She is always encouraging and ever so thoughtful. In addition, Tracey brings lots of energy to the school!! She is known for bringing her stage performances to entertain and teach at general school assemblies. It’s even more exciting that she now shares this passion and talent with the students by teaching her enrichment classes. She helps them to extend and deepen their learning in fun, creative ways!! Tracey’s enthusiasm for literature and learning is both captivating and contagious. It’s only fitting that she has received this nomination!!

She truly loves people and has a great rapport with parents as well as students. She has been nominated for Who’s Who among educators because she believes in gong the extra mile for all her students, family, and friends.

Ms. Pitts is a leader among leaders. She strives to bring out the very best in everyone around her. I appreciate her for so many reasons, but what comes to mind is how she took my grand daughter over one summer and influenced her life to be involved in the arts. She was a very small, shy little girl with big dreams, but not sure how to start. Working with Ms. Pitts at church, my grand daughter found her true calling and now she has gone on to college and majoring in Theatre and Arts to become a teacher. Thank you Ms. Pitts for pouring into my legacy, lifting up my young to find themselves. You are a what a Life Changer is all about.

I've had the pleasure of knowing Mrs. Tracey Pitts since August of 1998. She is one of the original educators to help open Madras Middle School. Over the years, she has taught English/Language Arts and has now launched a literary drama course for her school. Mrs. Pitts has always been a supportive, loving, and caring teacher but I have been most impressed by how she does the extra things to engage students in learning and get them involved. Mrs. Pitts has an alter-personality and when "Mrs. Grundy" visits the school, you can bet the educational day is going to be full of fun and enjoyable learning for all. Mrs. Pitts has a strong love and passion for educating middle school students. I am proud to be associated with her and wish her and her students continued success!!

I am honored to call Tracey Pitts a colleague and close friend. She is creative, skilled, hilarious, engaging, intelligent, and an exceptional educator. For years, she taught 8th grade ELA and was a favorite of the students. I'm sure that every teacher that has been nominated can be described as an exceptional teacher, so what makes Tracey Pitts extra special and deserving to be the Lifechanger of the Year? This is not a quick answer. The Lifechanger title of this award embodies who Tracey Pitts chooses to be in and out of the classroom. Mrs. Tracey Pitts is also known as Mrs. Grundy. Mrs. Grundy is a sasy, beloved elderly lady character where Mrs. Pitts dresses and acts with 100% commitment. Students are completely entertained when Mrs. Grundy shows up at pep rallies and special assemblies, It is a hilarious act that she writes or freestyles to get the students to have an even more enjoyable experience. This past year after teaching 8th grade for as long as I have known her, she was asked to begin a Literary Drama connections class. This class is taught to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Many of my 7th grade students were in her class. I heard them grumble at the beginning of the year about having to take the class, only judging their future by its title and then I quickly heard and saw their excitement for the class once it was underway. In fact, their excitement was so contagious that students wanted to have their schedules changed to have the life-changing opportunity. Tracey created her own curriculum and found innovative ways of increasing her students confidence through poetry readings to their peers, writing plays, creating videos relative to challenges in their lives. All the while, she incorporated ELA skills that would transfer to success in their academic classes. Mrs. Pitts was able to balance creating a new curriculum, continue her long time commitment of organizing and leading the Celebrating Diversity Black History Month program, and creating and sponsoring the Eagles Extraordinaire Club. For those that chose to be part of the Eagles Extraordinaire Club, I'm sure would agree that it was life-changing. Mrs. Tracey Pitts didn't push a personal agenda onto them, insteand she helped foster desire and confidence in the students to be able to spotlight their personalities and talents. She created opportunities for these students to practice and showcase their talents in school-wide assemblies. I can only imagine how these moments have and will invest in their future to help them step out of their comfort zones and stand out for all the right reaons. I know from personal conversations with my own students that this class afforded and continues to afford a healthy way to handle their rough patches in middle school. Through personal commitment to her students, she created life-changing moments and lessons. Tracey Pitts is also a Lifchanger because there are countless numbers of selfless moments where Tracey has organized opportunities for teachers to help meet the needs of students. These needs are not broadcasted and many times no one might have never known if Tracey hadn't had private conversations with students because she truly cares and doesn't want any student to go without or even feel economically disdvantaged. Of course she can't meet all of their needs, but I know there are students whose lives were changed because Tracey cared to sacrifice in personal and financial ways. It doesn't stop with just how much she loves her students. I along with several other staff have received a "just thinking of you" gift or card from Tracey Pitts. She is not flashy about it and doesn't expect anything in return. She is truly a beautiful soul who has been a lifechanger for many teachers. I know my life would not be the same without her. Lastly, I think one of the hardest challenges for any educator is balancing personal life and school life. Tracey is very active in her community serving and loving others the same way as she loves her school family. Moreover, about six years ago, she and her husband welcomed her young nephew into their home. They had not faced the challenges and joys of raising a child before this experience. I know personally how she has stepped up and made choices to forever change this young man's life. He was a student in one of her clubs and was given the spotlight a few times to perform for the student body. I saw his confidence soar. Mrs. Tracey Pitts is a lifechanger every year. The love poured into her family and the love poured into her students and colleagues is truly life changing.
