Angelique Sanchez was nominated by her principal, Katherine Trujillo.
Ms. Sanchez' work as the community liaison has helped her build valuable relationships within the Albuquerque community. She works hard to enact schoolwide initiatives that build a home-to-school connection and support the needs of low income families.
She runs the monthly food pantry program, which provides the community with food to help them get by throughout the year. Each week, she fills backpacks for students in need through a community partnership with Roadrunner Backpacks.
Ms. Sanchez has been her principal's support and partner. She guides staff on improving her school's parental engagement and student attendance.
"It has been a pleasure working alongside Angelique these past three years as the principal at Barcelona. We've been going out into the community to build on our community partnerships and develop support systems for the families," Trujillo said. "I could not have a better community liaison at Barcelona Elementary. Angelique Sanchez is cared for and loved by the students, families, staff and the community."
