Connie Bates was nominated by her student, Kimberly Gonzalez.

Ms. Bates has changed the lives of many students at North High School, including that of her nominator. She believes that every student has the potential to graduate high school and go on to college, no matter their financial situation. Ms. Bates treats every student with the same respect, and provides a safe environment for students to learn and grow.

"I am the daughter of a single immigrant mother," Gonzalez said. "When people predicted that I was going to drop out of school, Connie stood by my side and guided me to graduation day. Every day, every step - she was there for me."

Ms. Bates helped Gonzalez find herself when she was lost and constantly pushed her to believe in herself. She would do the same for all of her students, no matter their background or financial situation.

"She will help every student she can," Gonzalez said. "It doesn't matter if the student is at-risk of failing out. Connie will open her heart and help anyone."

I am in one of her classes and she pushes me forward everyday. She teaches us how to be successful in a way where most of us want to learn. In 8th grade I never turned in homework, when I met her my life changed and so did my grades.

Connie Bates goes above her job duties. I have seen her drive a student from Iowa to California to enroll in College because that student had no one else. She attends all their graduations and Loves these kids with passion and she invests in them. After these students graduate she continues to call to see where they are and how they are doing. Ms. Bates is deserving of this. Her love for God and family is a beautiful thing to see. Her students are apart of her family.....

Connie is so deserving of this award. She has made such an impact on so many kids lives. My daughter was one of those kids. She was killed in a auto accident back in 2012 and the compassion she showed all the kids after loosing there classmate was above and beyond a teacher could be. The lives she has changed and positive influence she has given these kids has changed so many lives.

Connie has a gift to understand her students needs. I have know Connie for a a long time and have seen her passion to help others to achieve greatness and succeed. She comes up with brilliant ideas of how to help them understand which’s helps them to succeed. She brings her own life experience to the classroom which benefits all she able to teach. She is very deserving of this nomination.

Connie truly exemplifies what it means to be a servant leader. Her first thought always is for others, and how she can help them to rise from where they are to where they could be. Even though she has had many personal trials over the last several years, she has never let that get in the way of putting her students' needs first. She not only encourages students in her classroom, but takes her precious little free time and attends many of their extracurricular activities to support them. She is always "on call", and available to help with whatever problem a student may have night or day...whether that be academic or personal. Connie's heart and soul is with her students, and I firmly believe, without her, many of them may have fallen through the cracks and not been able to reach their goals. In EVERY way Connie is a LifeChanger for the students of North High, and she deserves to win this award. Thank you.

I honestly can't think of a better women and roll model for this nomination. This woman has been by my side in my darkest time and gave me hope and compassion. She did anything she could to help me get back up again and I don't know where I would be without her words and love. Such an incredible human being. Blessed to know her.

Connie is so deserving of this nomination! Not only does she encourage and guide her students, but she's a living example of someone who's had to overcome her own extreme circumstances filled with obstacles and adversity. While many people would quit, offer excuses for failing or let their problems completely stop them from achieving their goals, Connie just keeps going. Her love and devotion to God, her family, friends, and her students is impressive. It doesn't suprise me at all that one of her students would have nominated her. She is such a kind and positive person who has enormous amount of empathy and understanding of others. She's a blessing to all those she teaches and to those around her.

Mrs.Bates is a rare light in the education system. The compassion she has for her job is indescribable. I’ve witnessed her take multiple kids that the world gave up on and gave them hope and a future to change their family tree. I’ve seen her skip lunch to help countless students catch up on work, and give her free time on the weekends to give her time. She has touched so many young lives and expects nothing in return. She is truly a remarkable woman with a huge heart for her students.
