Position: Principal
School: Mary Shoemaker School
School District: Woodstown-Pilesgrove Regional School District
City, State: Woodstown, NJ
Diane Cioffi was nominated by Alison Schulze, a colleague.
Ms. Cioffi is the kind of principal someone would read about in their college education courses, but would never expect to meet in real life. She is hardworking, supportive of her students and staff, flexible and understanding, and only wants the best for everyone.
"I've had the pleasure of working with her for almost 10 years and I don't think I've seen her take a vaction day once. Not even in the summer!" Schulze said.
Ms. Cioffi arrives to work early and stays late. She organizes community events outside of school hours so her students and their families have plenty of positive quality time together, where they may not have had the money or opportunity to do so.
Over the years, she has helped teachers adapt to changes with regards to evaluations, standards, curriculum, even schools. Her school moved an entire two grade levels (PK & K) mid-year four years ago and she was there every second, while still overseeing grades 1-5. She also worked to ensure that the transition went well for her students and their families, offering continued support along the way.
"A successful school undoubtedly has amazing teachers, but it also needs amazing administration and Woodstown hit the lottery." Schulze said. "Ms. Cioffi is a LifeChangers because of the continued care, respect, and personal time she has given to her schools/district. It is an absolute pleasure working with her!"
