Music that Describes Laura
Laura Brown was nominated by an anonymous colleague.
Mrs. Brown has been in education for over twenty years and has worked with many different ages and performance levels. She is dedicated, loving, and supportive of all her students and strives to make her classroom inclusive. She works hard to help her students and their families and consistently portrays her caring nature. She has a trauma-informed classroom and strives to ensure that all students learn and feel safe and secure in her classroom. She mentors many others as they learn to navigate their classrooms and the challenges that arise. She has taken those hard-to-love students and exhibited the importance of building relationships with the students and families to promote success in their lives inside and outside of school.
Over the last several years, her school has had an immense population of those affected by trauma. These students and families are struggling in school and at home. She ensures that her classroom is a place they can feel safe and nurtured, which has, in turn, increased their achievement. She promotes academic achievement in collaboration with social-emotional learning, ensuring the most productive classroom environment each of these students could dream of. This success has led to her being a leader in the school. She mentors many other teachers and has recently worked as a social-emotional learning specialist in her school. This position will allow her to help other teachers develop trauma-sensitive classrooms and allow her to share her expertise in creating an inclusive classroom.
