Music that Describes Lisa

Lisa Savage was nominated by her principal, Shalen King.

"Lisa Savage is a LifeChanger," said King. "From my experiences with her as the principal at Sonoma Elementary and as a parent of one of her former students, Mrs. Savage goes above and beyond to do what is best for students."

"Mrs. Savage is an amazing educator," said King. "As a parent, my child had specific unique needs to support her in the classroom. Mrs. Savage was always willing to learn about my child and her needs and accommodated them with empathy and understanding. She went above and beyond to bring a sense of safety to the children in her classroom."

"Mrs. Savage is an active member of multiple Sonoma school community groups, our Positive Supports Team, PTA, Formative Assessments for Michigan Educators, and more. She coaches Girls on the Run in the spring and helps to create many community and school connections. So many students love Mrs. Savage. She creates authentic learning opportunities that students talk about for years and years. Her famous applesauce and apple week is a favorite from parents to students," said King.

Lisa is an amazing teacher, colleague and friend. Her love for her students is matched only by her dedication to her chosen profession. She works endlessly at increasing her knowledge and honing her teaching skills. All done in service to her students, their families and the Harper Creek community. She is so deserving of this nomination as she truly has changed the lives of those kiddos lucky enough to have had Mrs. Savage as their teacher.

Lisa Gazella Savage is amazing in all of her personal roles: daughter, sister, family member, wife, mother, and friend ! As a teacher, Lisa is equally remarkable! She has an incredible educational history. She is an avid reader, and she stays updated in current teaching methodology. In life and most things in general, you get out what you put in. Mrs. Savage puts in the work and it pays off via our kiddos desire to learn. Salute to Mrs. Savage!

Mrs Savage is like no other. If you’ve had the opportunity to be her student or the parent of her student then you are blessed. I love all of the teachers at our school. I really do! I’ve established very strong relationships throughout our 5 years in the building. And I do believe everyone is doing a great job. But Mrs Savage is something different. Her heart is out there for not only your student, yourself as a parent, but even the rest of your family. My daughter had Mrs Savage in second grade, she’s now in fourth and yet I still have an awesome relationship with Mrs Savage. And so do my two younger ones who haven’t even had the chance to be in her class yet! We can’t wait to officially have her as our child’s teacher again! When your child is in her classroom they will have a year of magic. But what’s even more awesome is, that MAGIC doesn’t stop on that last day of second grade! It continues and it continues. She’s just simply the best and deserves this. We love you Mrs Savage!!

Lisa is a gem of a teacher and colleague! She does extra special things for her students, like make a 2nd grade photo album for each student every year! Lisa is firm but loving, providing the structure that makes kids feel safe but enveloping them in love! As a colleague, I couldn't ask for a better team mate. Lisa shares new learning with us all the time. Right now, she's taking two outside classes with 3-hour zoom calls for each at least once a week. Even so, she makes time to walk with us twice a week at lunch and stay connected to family and friends. Lisa's positivity brightens everyone's day!

Lisa, you are truly an inspiration. Each of us had a "favorite teacher ever", and you are that to your students. Your positive spirit is contagious to both family and students. I am SO proud of you!! I love you.

Not only was my daughter (now in 7th grade) lucky enough to have Mrs. Savage, but my type one diabetic son had her in 2nd grade too! She was not afraid to jumped right in to become knowledgeable in the needs and symptoms of diabetic kiddos and still continues to help in the building! She will never know how much she truly has done for me and my family - just to know she is in the same building as my son, puts me at ease. We love Mrs. Savage!!!!

Mrs. Savage is my sons teacher this year and I could not be happier!! He has had a rough couple years educational wise and I have never seen him so excited to go to school everyday and I have never heard him speak so highly of a teacher and all the fun exciting educational things they get to do! The smile on his face says it all daily and we are so grateful for Mrs. Savage and her teaching techniques and patience!!

Mrs. Savage is an AMAZING educator and an equally amazing human being. I was lucky enough to have my kids in her class as they were growing up and they loved her class. I have one that still asks about her and we even get to stop by and say hi every once in awhile. She is one of the most positive role models any student would be lucky enough to have as a teacher. If the world was full of Mrs. Savages we would never have anything to worry about. She is one of the very best!!

I first got to know Mrs. Savage when my son had her for 2nd grade. This was in 2021 following shutdowns and schooling from home because of Covid-19. From the beginning I felt that my son was supported and challenged appropriately in her classroom. He is the kind of kid that be overlooked because he doesn’t make waves, but Mrs. Savage made sure to connect with him every day he was in her classroom. Now she has my 1st daughter and I know that her individual needs will be supported as well. Mrs. Savage does an outstanding job keeping parents informed by posting pictures and messages daily. She encourages parent participation in the classroom and learning process. I know I can go to her with any concerns and she will listen and take action as needed. Additionally, she has supported my kids outside of school by attending their sporting events and other activities on weekends. We don’t have family nearby, so it is very meaningful for my kids to see their teacher there cheering them on. When I was president of PTA, Mrs. Savage attended meetings and participated in PTA after school events. Every time we see Mrs. Savage she greets my whole family with a smile and makes sure to greet each of us by name (even my youngest who isn’t in school yet). Her enthusiasm and passion for her work can be seen in everything she does. She is an inspiration to her students, her coworkers and to the families of Sonoma students.

Mrs. Savage is a phenomenal. My eldest son is 21 years old and he struggled with school and did not enjoy it. When he was put into Mrs. Savages class it changed his opinion on school and he still speaks highly of his days in her classroom and he was thrilled to learn that one of his baby sisters is now on her classroom 10 years later.

Although I may be slightly biased, there are few people in this world that pour their heart and soul into a vocation in the way that Lis' has done for the last quarter of a century. Her family has experienced this dedication forever and we're more than proud to share her drive, determination, dedication and love with the students that she impacts on a daily basis....we're so lucky proud to call her friend, mama and partner

Mrs. Savage is a LifeChanger! My daughter (7yo 2nd grade) came from BCMA last year and didn't know how to read, wrote all her words, letters and numbers backwards, she wasn't good at math, and was starting to hate school. Mrs. Savage has completely turned that around! My daughter is reading, comprehending, and enjoying The Magic Treehouse books, shes quickly catching up on math, and has been doing better with her letters and numbers. But best of all she's loving school again, and can actually tell me her friends names! Mrs. Savage has gone out of her way to change my daughter life around, and make sure she's enjoying and understanding school. I couldn't be more grateful!

As her daughter, I grew up watching my mom be an amazing teacher. Not just to her students at school, but to her 3 daughters at home. The compassion, love, empathy, and care she puts into her job everyday truly inspires me. She treats every kiddo who comes into her classroom as her own and she makes sure they know they are loved and have a safe space to come to. I truly can’t explain the amount of dedication she puts into her job every day. My mom, Lisa Savage, has not only changed my life for the better, she has changed a countless number of kids and their family’s lives for the better. She deserves this award without a doubt!
