Brian Johnson was nominated by a student.

"Sometimes the stars align, and you are fortunate to cross paths with someone who makes a lasting impact on your life," said the student. "I'm fortunate to know Mr. Brian Johnson, and I'm grateful that the stars aligned for us to cross paths. I first met him in middle school when he was my science teacher. He was a new teacher at our school, and I was happy to be among his first students. He knows how to communicate with teens, the best way to teach the material, and how to get students excited about learning. Many of the projects he assigned were hands-on, which required thinking outside the box."

"Over the last few years, Mr. Johnson has continued to be a dedicated teacher, leader, and team member at Doral Academy, leading to his professional advancement. He now teaches advanced classes in Computer Science and Digital Game Design and serves as the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department Chair. His efforts to bring new and in-demand programs to Doral have resulted in outstanding learning opportunities for students interested in computer science, video production, and digital game development. He has also helped to bring AP classes in this field to Doral, including AP Computer Science Principles. Many students at Doral want and need these classes to pursue their chosen fields of study in college. Everyone I know who has been in Mr. Johnson's classes speaks highly of him as a person and teacher. He understands the importance of engaging students and helping to set them on a path to continued success. He sets the bar high and empowers students to rise to the challenge. His classroom is one of learning, collaboration, and exploration," said the student.

"For me, Mr. Johnson has become much more than my middle school science teacher," said the student. "Over the years, he has been a trusted mentor and friend to me. Whether I need advice about college choices, things happening at school, and even things going on in my personal life, I know that I can turn to Mr. Johnson for guidance and sometimes just to have someone listen without judgment. In one instance, I went to his class in tears after school regarding a personal issue. Mr. Johnson heard me out, tears and all. He then gave me some words of wisdom that changed my perspective and helped me to realize a new perspective. It comes from within."

"His guidance is very much the way a father would guide a daughter-- with kindness and a genuine concern for my well-being. He cares about his students," said the student.

"While I don't take CTE classes, I always visit Mr. Johnson to see how he is doing and to stay connected. Look around his class, and you will see my artwork on display. I plan to study fine arts in college, and it gives me pleasure to give Mr. Johnson examples of my work anytime I create something I think he will enjoy. That's the kind of teacher Mr. Johnson is--- always providing an atmosphere for students to give their best," said the student.

"I hope to stay in touch with Mr. Johnson when I'm in college because nobody gives guidance or a pep talk like he does, and I will miss seeing him at school," said the student. "I am forever grateful that the stars aligned back in middle school. Everyone should be lucky to have their own Mr. Johnson."

Mr. Johnson is among the finest teachers my daughter has had from K-12. I appreciate the impact he has made on her and so many other students. Beyond everything he does during the school day, he's also actively involved with after-school activities, including We the Speechers. He's a great person.
