Patti Silva was nominated by her principal, Marjie Rowe.
"I have worked with Ms. Silva for the last five years, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this award! She is the heart and the backbone of Palm Springs Elementary," said Rowe. "She has worked at Palm Springs for over 25 years! Not only is she a wonderful teacher, but she goes above and beyond every day. Ms. Silva takes time to mentor students. Last year, she picked up a little girl every Friday in kindergarten and colored and played games with her to encourage better behavior."
"Ms. Silva works to make sure there is a positive school culture. As head of our hospitality committee, she organizes potlucks, reaches out to staff who are ill or who are experiencing loss, and is always offering a helping hand. If a teacher is out for an extended time, she volunteers to teach their math class so that students do not fall behind," said Rowe. "Her expertise as a teacher is evident in her data - her class was 100% proficient on the state test! Ms. Silva runs all of our school fundraisers, including t-shirt sales. Ms. Silva is a truly generous and giving person. Palm Springs Elementary wouldn't be the same without Ms. Silva!"
What can you say about a teacher who has put her entire heart and soul into her career? Patricia Silva (Patti) has been at Palm Springs Elementary for 30+ years and has touched so many lives including staff, students and the community that I could never be able to touch on them all. I was blessed to have worked side by side with her for 26 of those years.
As a classroom teacher, she went way above the call of expectations, using the example of heading up the annual Multi-culture “World’s Fair” where each grade level studied a different country, did activities from that country and created a display using the knowledge they learned as the students “walked around the world” gaining new knowledge. This was a schoolwide activity that the students always looked forward to participating in.
As the director of our school hosting the Alternative Education Program, Patti was a strong disciplinarian to the students in the program at the same time becoming like a mother figure with love and a gentle touch. Two examples were the two brothers who were on a direct path to incarceration and have now turned their lives around and entered a career in law enforcement. I truly believe that Patti played a huge part in the life changing decisions they have made.
Patti is always one of the first to get to school and more often than not, she is the last to leave. She became the SACC director after the retirement of the director and extended her love of education and children to the kids until 6:00 everyday. The children had so many exciting activities and special events throughout the year in the aftercare program. She later took over the director position of the 21st Century After School Program upon my retirement and again she plans exciting and new activities for the children to assist with their academics and physical needs.
For as long as I can remember, Patti has been actively involved with the Safety Patrol students. She encourages the students to have exemplary behavior, work hard at their academics, and to show respect to other students and staff. Going to Washington D.C. was not a cheap endeavor, so many of her weekends were spent fundraising so that every student had an opportunity to participate no matter their family income.
Our community has also benefited from Patti’s giving heart. Several events that Patti has coordinated have been: Toys for Tots drives, Thanksgiving food drives, and national and local disaster relief drives.
Most recently, she headed up emergency supply drives to assist with the Eyes Open Hurricane Relief non-profit Organization by collecting food, water, and cleaning supplies that were delivered to New Orleans in 2021 and Fort Myers in 2022.
I know this is a rather long letter but I want you to see the full extent of the many lives that Patti Silva has touched and changed for the better. This is only a very small example of her LIFE CHANGING activities.
Thank you for considering her for this award, even though she certainly has earned it, she doesn’t do these things for an award, but because she loves her students, staff and community!

Patricia Silva
Patti and I have known each other through our years of working at our school (31 years for me) in the Lake Worth school zone that we have been proud to work in.
Back in the day, Patti lived In Jupiter with her children and worked an hour drive away in Palm Springs. She was the person in charge who had the keys to the school and made sure all staff, parents, and students went home after an evening event and the front gates were lock. Three of us stood guard, cleaned and put away food and drink so the kitchen crew on Monday were neither surprised nor dismayed by what they saw as they started their day. Patti took pride in her school and knew the importance of keeping her school clean and put back together like it was left by the kitchen crew. She instills in other, the need to care for others like you would want to be cared for.
Some of our children don’t take pride in our school and she talks to them like her mother talked to her in hopes that she will make a difference in their lives one day at a time, one positive idea at a time.
Ms. Silva loves to travel to far away places. She brings back stories that children listen too. Her grandson Rudy has been with her while she travels and shared hours with his Grandma, always learning and happy to be with his grandma.
Being a grandmother made her heart happy and Patti loved to fly on Jet Blue to see her son, daughter-in-law and grands.
Patti has grace. She forgives those who do injustices on others. She talked me through some adult bullying and made me feel better about myself and prayerful to those who bully.
Patti is that special person that wishes you a happy birthday as well as your family members. She really cares for her family and friends and loves to go to Disney World with her friends and her grandchild Rudy. She is a teacher through and through and gives 100% each day at her school. Her love of children shows in how she speaks to children showing that she cares about them. We need more Patti Silvia’s in this world who care more about others than herself. She shines at our holiday parties as well as end of the year parties with her jokes and her creative side like making “Money Trees” for those retiring.
Patti Silva is part of the fabric of our school and the first one in and the last one out each day. We are blessed to know her and her kindness for all of her school family. She is a blessing to all of us at Palm Springs Elementary School. Thank you.
Ms. Silva is an excellent teacher, she gives her heart and soul in our 21st Century program. Our Students love her and respect her as well as my staff and myself, she deserves it!
Sr. Silva la mejor maestra una persona muy buena y entragada a su trabajo.

I've worked with Patti for a couple years but she has already made an impact in my life! The effort she puts into her work is admirable- she didn't measure resources to help other teachers or students with anything we need. She is always ready to assist and I'm blessed to have known her. I hope she wins the LifeChanger of the Year because she more than deserves it!

Patti Silva was my second grade teacher when I use to go to Palm Springs Elementary. Now 30 years later I myself am a teacher and get the opportunity to work with her. It is amazing to still see her here after all these years. I remember what an awesome teacher she was to me, and now she is my helpful and supportive math coach. She is loved by all and literally puts her heart and soul into Palm Springs. No matter how much teaching as changed, she is still here and she stays for the kids. She volunteers for every school event, or funderasier. She helps the school is so many ways, and puts in endless hours before, during and after school. We are all lucky to have her. Thank you for all you do Ms. Silva, you most definitely are a life changer.
I have had the pleasure of working with Patti for 6 years. Her friendly and comedic wit has made me laugh throughout these years. I am amazed at how tirelessly she works to move our math scores, moreover, how she finds a way to connect with teachers and students alike. I wish that I would have been fortunate enough to have a teacher like her when I was in elementary school. I imagine the committee reads one accolade after another, when you are considering Patti please know that she is an exemplary Math teacher and couch, a great colleague, a supportive friend, and the creator of many events that bridge school to home with large a large turnout at out Title One school.

I've only worked with Patti for a short time but you don't have to be on campus long to see that she is everywhere and always going above and beyond. She devotes her time tirelessly to our students, their families, and our faculty and staff. I can't imagine the campus whithout her!
Patti has dedicated her time, energy and love to enriching the lives of all kids and families. Where there is a need, Patti Silva finds a way to GIVE! She is in action stepping up and organizing drives for food, clothing, disaster relief, and whatever is needed wherever it is needed. In her decades as a dedicated educator, she has put the needs of others first-especially our children. She is the ultimate example of caring and kindness for our communities. May we all try to emulate her in our actions and in our hearts. Patti is an amazing teacher, in and out of the classroom. Definitely a LifeChanger!
Ms. Silva, whom I affectionately call Silverado. No reason in particular, but that she has touched me ever since I joined the Palm Springs Elementary team 5 years ago. I love her witty ways and ability to turn a frown into a smile. Ms. Patti is always willing to help others even when she has a full plate of her own. Her spirit of kindness never ceases to amaze me. He schedule is full and she finds time to teach our AMP students, collect funds for school uniforms, manage our Hospitality committee, and raise funds that incentivize and contribute to our students' success. She aims to find new and innovative ways to captivate our student's full potential. If not her, whom better to receive such an honor of Life Changer? Many students return just to see if their Math teacher is still here. And guess what, she is. I truly hope she is bestowed the honor this 2023/2024 school year.
Congratulations to Patti! A very well deserved nomination and hopeful winner of this award, because she truly is a LifeChanger!! Math teacher, math coach, party planner, after school academic, advisor, fundraiser, baker, colleague and friend, she’s all that and more!! Palm Springs Elementary is lucky to her!!

I was lucky enough to have Patti Silva as my teacher twice, 2nd grade and 5th grade. She was always the most caring teacher. She was tough but fair, she taught me that actions have consequences and to always have respect for others. I was extra fortunate in my life because not only did I have her as my teacher TWICE, I was even able to work beneath her when she hired me as an aftercare counselor when she was the director. I am so blessed to have been able to receive so many life lessons from her over the last 25+ years. There is no one more deserving of an honor like the LifeChanger of the Year than Ms. Silva!
Ms. Silva is one of the most amazing teachers I have ever had the good fortune to work with. We spent over 20 years together at Palm Springs. She is committed to her profession and to the growth of every student. Ms Silva taught Drop Out Prevention students and touched their lives forever. She is dedicated, caring, and professional in every way. I am proud to call her a friend, a mentor, and an outstanding individual. There is no one more deserving then Ms. Silva as she has dedicated her life to helping and encouraging her students to be good citizens, and to dream their dreams. You can talk to any student she has come in contact with and they will remember her fondly and sing her praises.
Congratulations. Patricia Hodgson Silva is a very special person and is always going the extra mile for our students and their families. She deserves this award.
Patti goes above and beyond for everyone she can. I have known her for close to 20 years Ames she has helped all in need!
Ms. Silva goes out of her way to help all teachers, staff, and students at Palm Springs Elementary! Well deserved!
Patti is the heart of Palm Springs Elementary. She works tirelessly to support our students, staff, and school. She is always looking for new ways to bring the staff together.
I have known Patti my whole life. She has always wanted to be a teacher. Her sister Kathy was her mentor. Kathy always had the most challenging students, and would find unique ways to have every student engaged. Before internet and emails, Kathy called parents every night to ask how she can a better teacher to their child, talk about the strides in the classroom and how to encourage positive learning. She would also take time to know each child’s talents and go surprise them at their dance recitals or sports games. Each year Kathy would be invited to the local High School graduation by her former students to express the positive impact of their lives. Or have former students do their student/teacher internships with Kathy. Patricia is well deserved because she learned from the best!
Patti has always shown an unwavering commitment and dedication to her students. The world needs more amazing teachers like Patti!
Ms. Silva was my 5th grade teacher. That was almost 20 years ago and to this day she is still one of my favorite teachers.
I have known Patricia Hodgson Silva throughout her life and have been most impressed by her intellect and abilities. She is a wonderful person with a great sincerity and great sense of humor. Of special note is her dedication to teaching. She has a long and exceptional record in teaching mathematics for over 25 years. She cares so much about her role! She has the strongest commitment to her school and all the students and staff. I wish I could have had such a teacher.
Ms. Silva is definitely deserving of this award. As a former teacher at Palm Springs Elementary, I have seen and experienced Patti Silva go above and beyond her duties as an educator . She is a leader in all aspects of the teaching profession.
Patti is my sister and many a time my visits to her have been interrupted by shopping for her students with her own money and there were times during her vacation she would just have to make a “quick” trip to school for something. Teaching is her vocation and she is truly devoted to it! I’m sure when, as adults, her students are asked who their favorite teacher was, Miss Silva will be mentioned more than once!
I have known Patti for 25 years. She is an incredible nominee for this award. She served as the PTA teacher while I was President of the PTA at Palm Springs Elementary and was an outstanding asset to our team. Always willing to jump in and help where needed. We remained friends through the years. She always has an inspiring word when you need it. Even if she doesn’t know that her words have comforted me they have and continue to do so.
Ms Silva aka auntie Patti is a truly genuine person. We live in mass and she always extends her help to my younger daughter. Good luck auntie Patti love you
There is no one I have worked with who has dedicated more to a school than Patti Silva. She has dedicated the majority of her career at Palm Springs Elem and is the bar to which an educational career should be measured.
Patti Silva is my younger sister. For as long as I can remember Patti was destined to be a teacher. She is the
2nd youngest of nine brothers and sisters. We grew up in a loving household where respect, kindness, watching out for others was a way of life. Patti goes above and beyond when it comes to her students and fellow teachers. It comes natural to her and because of this she has changed many lives over her many years as an educator. She also has a wonderful sense of humor and a positive outlook on life. These attributes are what makes her a great mentor especially for someone who may be struggling. Patti has a loving, caring heart and it shows in everything she does. For these reasons I support my sister Patti as Life Changer of the Year.
I've known Pattie since I was 4years old. We lived and grew up on the same street in Melrose MA. She was always a great kid ! Although I haven't seen her in years I am not surprised at all that she she is now a caring and thoughtful teacher and recommended for this award! I am glad she is appreciated !
I was a coworker with Mrs. Silva at Palm Springs Elementary until I retired in 2007. She is an awesome teacher always willing to go above and beyond for her students and coworkers. She certainly deserves to receive this award.
Patti Silva is the ultimate description of a dedicated teacher. She has given her life to not only teaching, but nourishing the students of Palm Springs Elementary. She is the ultimate educator
Thrilled to see that Mrs Patti Silva has been nominated for Life Changer of the Year! Her unwavering dedication to students goes beyond the curriculum, fostering an inspiring and supportive environment. Mrs. Silva truly embodies the transformative power of education, leaving an indelible mark on the lives she touch.
There really aren't enough words to explain why she deserves this so much.
For years, I have watched her devote herself to not only her family, but her PSES family and her students. She's up at 4:15 am and home no earlier than 6:30 pm, sometimes as late as 8:30.
She spends her time making sure those around her are happy, healthy and know that they are valued, which sadly, is something a lot of people don't realize until she comes along and unknowingly reminds them.
Yes, she has her masters in mathematics, but it's the other stuff she teaches you that I think makes her so special. I don't even know if she realizes how much her presence effects the rest of the world.
Because of her, so many people understand what unconditional love and loyalty are. What it means to be a good person. That mistakes are okay to make, and youre going to make them. You're going to get hurt and go through horrible times, but those mistakes and those hard times are never as bad as they seem at first because she is always there. Completely full of love to give. Never judging. Never condemning. Just simply supporting.
People like her are very rare. She is me and my son's biggest blessing and I thank God for her every chance I get.
Even though I am now retired, I have worked with Patricia for over 20 years. I find her a knowledgeable, caring, and giving teacher and friend. She’s never hesitated to help students or teachers. Patti is the first to volunteer for any committee. She has been a mentor to many, students or teachers. An innovative and creative teacher, who is an asset to our school.
Patricia has been like a second mom for me for over 20 years. She took me and my brother in when we were almost taken away by DCS in 2002. While my mom was not in the right state of mind. She took care of us and kept us safe.I don’t know where I would be today if it wasn’t for her dropping everything, putting us first and bringing us into her home. She has always treated me like her own. She is the most caring and always puts other people first! She is definitely a LifeChanger in my book!
Concerning the nomination of Patricia Hodgson Silva for the LifeChanger of the Year Award.
Amidst a European River Cruise, My Life Partner, another Couple from Atlanta, Georgia we've known for half a century, and I, had the pleasure of meeting Patricia @ our dinner table.
The coupling was obviously perfect, as we dined together the entire cruise.
I concur with your choice of Patricia for your award, as from our chance meeting on a ship of 180 individuals, she became a LifeChanger Friend.
