Music that Describes Don

Don Lessard was nominated by a colleague, Elizabeth Bicknell.

"For nearly 50 years, Don Lessard has been the invisible force making sure our building is clean and well-maintained," said Bicknell. "Don sees what needs to be done without being asked and does not seek attention. Even though Don is no longer a young man, he can outwork those a third his age! Walking down a hallway, Don pushes two mops while carrying the trash he has gathered along the way. If someone on his crew is out sick, Don does their section without complaint. He notices equipment and furniture that need repair and does it himself, saving our district a lot of money! Don does all of this while having a fun sense of humor, getting along with everyone from students to staff to admin to our school board. He never takes a sick day and arranges his vacation for times that work for others. Don is hardworking, dedicated, and personable; what more can you ask for? He is our 'Superman'!"

Don Lessard was one of the familiar faces when I returned to SHS as an employee. He takes the time to know people and greets them by name and with a smile, something that I appreciate in people. I remember him as a student, always being super friendly and helpful, and now, as a staff member, he has helped me with tasks after school and during school breaks. I echo Beth's nomination - he is our Superman!

Like Superman, Don has adapted over the years and does not permit change to take him down. Years ago, Roy Belcher spoke fondly at his graduation, noting Don as being Mr. Spaulding. And I concur not only as his colleague, but an alum of the school. He has served our school for decades. He has continued to embody the tenets of dedication, humility, and integrity in the halls, in the classrooms, and at games. Without Don, Spaulding would not exist - I mean this literally and figuratively, so I echo Beth’s nomination. He is timeless and a classic with whom we have all been blessed by.
