Dr. Gladys Georges has been in my life since I could remember. She is an amazing person in every way, always extending her hand to help anyone in need. My very first job was working at her beauty salon. I learned plenty of skills that help me have a head start in life. I've done all types of workshops with Dr. Georges that include teaching the youth and pamper people that are in temporary housing. You're truly blessed if you ever get the chance to meet Dr. Georges.

I have known Gladys since she was a kid And even then I knew she was special. I coached her in sports and watched her grow into becoming a leader, helped her peers and set herself aside. She was destined to be great and I am so happy that she has a career path, where others can benefit from her career gifts. I am certain that people that are part of her life now, experience what I saw in her as a young person, and that makes me very proud.

Gladys and I went to high school together and reunited when she became my hair stylist over 10 years ago. No matter it is last minute, a complicated style, or me just being unsure Gladys always has the solution. It has been please to not only call Gladys my hair stylist but my sister friend. Watching her navigate between being a working mom and a great help to the committee over the years has been a pleasure. Keep up the good work Gladys!

I am beyond grateful to have the opportunity to speak on all of the wonderful things that Dr. Gladys Georges has done for others over the years. I have known her all of my life and she’s the most selfless person that I have ever come across. I’ve seen her supply employment for friends and family members during struggling times. I’ve seen her give back to the community in various ways by helping rebuild the confidence of homeless men and women by providing beauty services and self-care. I’ve seen her educate the youth year after year, passing along her love and passion for cosmetology. To top it all off, she does all of these things while being an outstanding mother to her two beautiful children. It still amazes me how she gets everything done on a daily basis. I know myself personally, I don’t think I would be able to handle so much at one time, which is why I’m always amazed by her willingness to leave an impact on everyone that crosses her path. I can’t even count how many lives she has changed, including mine. There’s no other person that deserves this award more than she does!

I was honored to work with Dr. George’s at a temporary housing facility. This is where here journey of changes lives began. I remember prom dress collections and beauty bars. Dr Georges brought a mother and me day to our families. They were pampered with facials, and hairs doo’s. I remember thinking what a selfless act. Dr. Georges is an exceptional mother. I know what you might be thinking, 'Oh, you're her son, so of course you're going to say nice things about her.' But let me tell you, it's not just because I'm her son. It's because she is truly an amazing woman. I honestly don't know what I would do without her. Every day, she comes home from work at 12 or 1 o'clock in the morning, completely exhausted and sleep-deprived. And yet, the very next day, she still manages to take care of me and make sure I get to school on time. Her dedication and selflessness are truly remarkable. Not only does she excel in her role as a mother, but she also actively participates in various workshops. Sometimes, I have the privilege of accompanying her. I observe her in action, and I am in awe of the way she effortlessly commands the attention and respect of the group. Her ability to lead and inspire is truly admirable. If there's anyone who deserves the life changer award, it is undoubtedly her. Her unwavering love, sacrifice, and commitment make a profound impact on my life and the lives of those around her. I am incredibly grateful to have such an extraordinary mother.

I came to the United States in my second year of High School and it was very difficult for me to adapt since I didn't know any English. Luckily I had the opportunity to be in Dr. George's class and to be honest, I couldn't ask for a better teacher. She didn't understand a word I was saying, even so, she looked for a way to explain the content of the class to me using the translator or putting a Spanish classmate next to me to help me. I loved her class because it was very fun and I learned a lot of things about cosmetology that I never thought I would like, since at first I wasn't interested in that subject. In addition to being a good teacher, she was also a good friend. She listened to my complaints and problems whenever I felt frustrated and always gave me the best advices. On the other hand, she is a great mentor, since I did several internships with her and I had a great time while learning a lot. Her impact on my life was so great that even though I graduated and continued my adult life, I always make time to visit her when I can to have more fun with her. When I tell her how my life is going, she gets very happy about my achievements as I am about hers. She inspired me and gave me the push to get my cosmetology license and I will never forget that. I’m super proud about you and miss you a lot Dr. Georges.

This phenomenal teacher is dedicated, motivated, highly skilled, task orieted and nurturing. I have known Dr. Gladys Georges for over 35 years. Dr. Georges has always been a very important person in my life. She is more than a friend but a mentor. As a young teen, I was very nervous about attending high school but was blessed with the advantage of being accepted to the same high school that Dr. Georges was already attending, WM. H. Maxwell High School. Dr. Georges made sure I stayed focused in school. She would pick me up for school every morning for the entire 9th grade. My mother was a single mom who could not afford to buy me the clothes I wanted to look cool. Dr. Georges got me into a work-study program at the school. Anytime I am in a life dilemma I call her, and she will sit on the phone with me to help me decide my options of what I can do to resolve any issues. She is the definition of a friend you can count on. When I became a mom, I had a lot of childcare issues, and there was Dr. Georges to my rescue again. She provided me with babysitters. After having the baby, I didn’t feel like myself and I expressed this to Dr. Georges. She told me “Come to my shop I’m going to do your hair.” It wasn’t just the free hair-do, it was the talk, and the boost in my self-esteem that she knew I needed, and I was back to being focused. Since then, I have had many achievements in my life, and she always makes sure she congratulates me. I always tell her my life may have been very different if I didn’t have her as a friend and a mentor.

Nothing ceases to amaze me with Dr. Georges, she's more than just a stylist to me. She has been goal driven since childhood. She was able to help me get my first apartment. What I admire about her is that she thinks outside of the box and wants you to have your own experiences and live for yourself.

Dr. Georges is a great teacher. She doesn’t give up on her students and helps them until they understand the topic and knows how to do the job correctly. She gets to know her students well and has a close relationship with them not just being a teacher but someone you can trust and talk too.

Last year I met Dr.Georges because she was my cosmetology teacher. I was just getting into the idea of getting my license and turning my passion for doing hair into a profession. Multiple times I have wanted to give up on doing hairstyles or even taking notes but Dr. Georges has always motivated me to not give up. Over the summer I got the opportunity to be mentored by her and work in her shop. She taught me how to act around clients, networking, how to make a resume and many more. Dr. Georges also encouraged me to go to college and pursue another career in nursing. Dr.Georges is a very selfless person and over the summer we gave beauty services to multiple senior citizens and foster parents. Without Dr. Georges I think I would be unsure as to what I would do in the future. I am happy that she is getting the recognition she deserves.

Dr. Glady Georges is an extraordinary woman and friend who has made a significant impact in the Brooklyn community. As a cosmetology teacher at Maxwell High School, where she once attended herself, Dr. Georges has dedicated her life to changing the lives of her students. Not only does she teach at the school, but she has also opened her beauty salon to help her students obtain their cosmetology licenses and complete their required hours. Dr. Georges is not only a dedicated educator but also a supportive friend. I had the privilege of attending an event where she shared her personal struggles with passing state exams and the importance of perseverance. Her story deeply resonated with me, as I was facing similar challenges at the time. Dr. Georges spoke about the determination and drive required to succeed, inspiring me to never give up. Thanks to Dr. Georges' unwavering love and support, I am now a certified school counselor and licensed mental health counselor in the states of New York and New Jersey. I met Dr. Georges in 8th and I didn’t know then how lucky I was to have her in my path. We met in a time where my family was going through a rough time. I told her how important school was to me and how I saw it as the only opportunity to success. As someone with a physical disability it is not often that I have the privilege to be seen as being able to achieve. But from day one she pushed me to chase my dreams and do my best. She would constantly support and help me advocate for having the same opportunities as my peers. With her support I graduated valedictorian, obtain a series of scholarships for a full ride at NYU. I now have a full time job and a growing consulting business. She not only sees greatness in her students. She supports them fully until they see it for themselves and reach their goals. I am just one of the many that have been lucky to have her be part of my journey. This recognition is not just well deserved but long overdue.

It is with tremendous honor that I am asked to write a brief note about one of our most esteemed colleagues. I have had the pleasure of working with Dr. Gladys Georges for the past several years. Her dedication and support of our students and the community go well beyond the walls of W.H. Maxwell CTE High School. She works extremely hard to ensure that her students are well equipped to take on the challenges of the real world. She has fostered a spirit of giving back to her community. She provides make-overs and other cosmetology services for the neighboring elderly and homeless families. These simple acts of generosity not only serve to raise the self-esteem of these individuals, but also teach her students an important lesson on giving back to the community and choosing kindness. She has planted the seeds for future community leaders. Dr. Georges is a true educator and a game changer. She is an inspiration to us all. I can think of anyone more deserving of this honor.

Sir Tatin Baker Posted over a year ago

Dr. George's continued passion for the community, education, and finance has truly become her signature. I've witnessed significant growth in all of these areas. For starters, seeing Dr.George fulfill some of her goals has inspired me to continue on my own. Dr. George has consistently been a fixture in the Brooklyn community, assisting not only women but also men with their hair care, and not simply for superficial reasons. Whether it's for an interview (myself included) or the preparation of a deceased loved one (my brother), Dr. George's abilities much transcend what some may initially believe. Dr. George's involvement with the pupils she counsels and educates elevates her to new heights. Dr. George not only teaches at her educational institution, but also in her company. Dr. George, who provides apprenticeship skills to students at her own firm, is not dictating to the youth, but rather demonstrating firsthand experience. I have no doubt that these life skills will have a lasting impact on her students. The added benefit for these pupils is obviously financial, which any teenager would appreciate, but Dr. George's knowledge on the subject is also extensive. Dr. George maintains her financial education not only for her own benefit, but also for that of her community and peers. Examples include scholarships, housing, internships, investments, and consumer protection acumen. Dr. George's knowledge of these issues has once again benefited not only me, but everyone who comes into contact with her (clients, students). I believe that Dr. George's honor and privilege should be recognized through a nomination.

It gives me great pleasure to say that I'm aware Dr. Gladys and her accomplishments as an educator, mentor, friend and a mother. I've known Gladys since she was a child. Her pure kindness and compassion even as a child made her the woman that she is today! In her adulthood, she became my hair-doctor. Taking care of my hair as though it was her own. I, as many women, am very particular to whom I allow to handle my crown. Dr. Gladys always did an excellent job! Bringing it back to life! I'm extremely proud of the fact that she is a teacher. Quite often, I'm told that I've missed my vocation. That I too should be an educator. She gives of herself through her teaching. Allowing children new opportunities and experiences is a phenomenal attribute! One that she does well. This recognition is long overdue!

Before Dr. Georges embarked in her teaching career, I hired her as a Family Assistant for students and families in temporary housing. One of the things that stand out with my encounter with Dr. Georges is that during her interview, I asked her what made her qualify to work with the population and she stated that she currently worked with the mental disabled population and to work with a vulnerable population is to empathize and protect. She expressed that no one asked to be in the temporary housing,  things happen and there is hope. She concluded that she was there to serve the homeless population and provide hope. Needless to say, she was hired on the spot. Working with the homeless population, you just never know when someone will act out due to the stress in the situation. Dr. Georges was skillfully talented and professional with working with the students and families.   Additionally, in hosting holiday parties, trips, events and advocating for students and families, Dr. Georges was front and center in getting the people to participate. The attendance from her site was high as the students and families were eager to participate. The nomination for leadership is long overdue as Dr. Georges has been pouring into the community for over 20 years.

It was an ultimate honor and privilege to work with Dr. Georges as my cosmetology teacher for a long period of time. During that period of time, I observed a compassionate, loving and professional African American preparing our students for a competitive and professional world. Every day, she goes above and beyond the scope of teaching to expose our students to the best career development. She brings multiple layers of professionals to motivate our students to a bright and better future. The students see her as mother figure who strives for excellence as she addresses their social emotional issues. She instills in students the values of giving back to their communities, self-respecting and family support. She brings the students to the local nursing homes and businesses to exhibit their skills and knowledge in order to gain the best professional experiences. I strongly recommend Dr. Georges for this award without any reservation.

I have been blessed to be Dr. George’s student back in 2017-2019. She is a motivator, kind, and generous person. She motivated me to keep pushing and finish my education. Dr. George’s gave me amazing opportunities to work with her in her hair salon. When I was out of work. After I graduated from High School Dr. George’s kept in contact with me. She always check up on me to see how I was doing and what plans do I have for the future. She guided me on my path to succeed. Dr George’s is always there for me even recently when My mother passed away in May of 2023. Dr. George’s came and support my family and I. I am grateful to have her in my life. She is a wonderful person.

Dr. Georges is not just a smart, amazing, kind, compassionate person for her community. She is also an amazing sister. With the help from our  two older siblings Gladys helped raise me from a baby. Not only teaching me to tie my shoes but also how to read and write. While showing me how important education is by attending and graduating from high school and college. Ever since we were kids, she has always encouraged me to educate myself. I can remember as a high school student she would allow me to proofread and type her essays to prepare me for college. Showing me the structure of a good essay. Dr. Georges has proven to be a pillar in her community through her work and success as an entrepreneur in the beauty industry. I had first hand exposure to the start and growth of her business from doing her client’s hair in the kitchen, working at Joezztt Salon, going into business with  her high school friend, to now opening her own hair salon. She even gave me my first job and the skills she teaches you is only  five star. Any company is guaranteed to promote you. All my promotions is because of what she instilled in me. I'm truly proud of my sister. She is not only an inspiration to me but to my three younger children.

I have witnessed first-hand the influence that Dr. Georges has on her students. She has nominated multiple students who have been selected to be featured in Students of NYC; and I was lucky enough to be able to spend time with her in the classroom and speak to many of her students about her impact. I also got to visit her during the summer where she helped students who were interning and learned all about the amazing experiences Dr. Georges provided for them. You can tell not just how much she cares, but how much she is admired and cared about by her students because of the way they respond to her and talk about her. I will post something that one student said about her (there was a lot more said, but this was the portion I included in the post) and you can read the whole post at www.studentsofnyc.com/Raymond. "Dr. Georges will tell you I’m the first one to each event and the last one to leave. But honestly, the reason I do that is because of her. I watch her. Like how she goes about working and hustling and helping — doing work that she doesn't necessarily get paid for. I think she gets paid in the sense of, you know, like a good feeling. I admire her. She’s a go-getter. I feel like I’m always observing her, because when it comes to proper examples, she is prime. It’s hard to find words when describing somebody that great. She just knows what to do and how to do it. But she’s patient. She sits with you personally if you’re not doing well."

Dr. Georges was one of my favorite teachers that I've ever had. She taught me a lot about both the cosmetology field and about how to conduct myself professionally when on the job. I look up to her as someone I want to be someday since she is, in my eyes, what you should be like when working. Someone who keeps both a personal and professional relationships with all of her other students which I always found admirable because of the sheer amount of students she cares for and shows that individual level of attention to all of them. We had worked with the homeless population a lot as extra hours for class and seeing how kindhearted and respectful she is to so many of the people there is something I deeply admire within her. I see her as a role model for all of the work we did together at festivals, teaching cosmetology based activities at Westinghouse to students who wanted to get into the field, and all of the various events where we gave beauty services to people like the elderly, children, and the homeless. I even remember when I started class with her as my teacher I was a lot more enclosed into myself, but through each day and each event we did together, I became less closeted into myself and I became a much more outgoing person then I once was. Truly she was an inspiration for who I want to be by her age and how I want to work when I had her as my cosmetology teacher. She's a great teacher and a great person to work with and I'd say she definitely deserved to be nominated for this and more.

Dr. Georges is the best example of a success story. She is a bright light for her students at Maxwell. A former student in a time when this school was going through survival changes, Dr. Georges, driven by her own goals became an educator and continues to give back to her community by encouraging her students to dream and believe in themselves. All my best.

She is helping me right now to get my cosmetology license and honestly without her I don’t think I could I do it. She has been a huge help in this whole process. Dr. George’s was my favorite teacher in Maxwell she was always someone I could trust, confide, and laugh with. She is now no longer my teacher but she is someone I consider family. She is a person where you have to smile at and who you would want to stop what you doing to help her with her amazing plans to give back to many communities/ shelters. I am so happy she is finally getting the recognition she deserves.

I was a cosmetology student for Dr. Georges when I attended Maxwell High School. I graduated during the pandemic in 2020, so I lost the opportunity to take the cosmetology license test since we were in a lockdown. I was a wreck and lost all motivation for school, but Georges was always positive and looked at things on the bright side. To this day, she is helping me get my official New York State license. She’s more than just a teacher, she goes above and beyond for every single one of her students and is a blessing to be around. She deserves this award since she has positively impacted my life since I met her, and I know the rest of her students can say the same!

This is such a great honor for her and I hope she gets the award. I always refer to her as Ms. Gladys, but let me address her correctly Dr. Gladys is an amazing lady, very understanding and is always willing to help others. My daughter has been her client for many years and she is the only person my daughter felt comfortable doing her hair. The patience she has when it comes to doing my daughter's hair says it all to the type of person she is, she is very compassionate, and she have a smile that lights up the room. One thing I admire about her, she is very knowledgeable and is always ready and willing to share her knowledge with you. My daughter is not a people person, but from the moment she met Dr. Gladys, that was it, her spirit just took to hers and now she talks to Dr. Gladys about every and anything and I have no worries because I know she gives her great advice.
