Johanna Shlomovich was nominated by a friend, Joel Barnehama.
"Two words to describe Ms. Shlomovich are committed and passionate," said Barnehama. For almost 20 years, Ms. Shlomovich made a massive difference in New York at one of the best private Jewish day schools. She had a profound impact on helping the community reach greater heights and helping the students transition into the non-religious world of college. Many of the students were accepted into the best colleges in the country."
"During COVID, she decided to uproot her family and take on the role of headmaster at Tucson Hebrew Academy. It is a position of passion for Johanna to continue the legacy of a school that started in 1973. She is committed to continuing to focus on Jewish studies and heritage while creating a curriculum that prepares students for the public high school system. Her students bring worldly knowledge with them as they move on," said Barnehama.
"On a personal note, I watched Johanna interact with almost 100 families one by one at the 50th anniversary dinner. This was a kickoff to celebrate 50 years; she connected alumni and current students so all could see and continue the legacy," said Barnehama.
