Kim Virtudazo was nominated by Geraldine Valencia, a colleague.

"I have worked with Kim for over 12 years, and her passion and commitment to student and staff success and successful systems is exceptional," said Valencia.

"I am dedicated to fostering positive relationships and implementing effective instructional strategies with my students," said Virtudazo.

Over four years as the Freshman Academy Lead, Virtudazo has spearheaded initiatives resulting in remarkable achievements, earning praise from Valencia: Through her leadership, the Freshman Success Academy received the highest distinction from the National Career Academy Coalition (NCAC), Model Academy with Distinction, the only academy receiving this distinction in the school.

"I strive to promote postsecondary and career preparedness among all freshmen," said Virtudazo.

When describing Ms. Virtudazo's initiatives during challenging times, Ms. Valencia underscored her remarkable adaptability. During the pandemic, she demonstrated exceptional adaptability by quickly transitioning to virtual learning and still providing students with the same mock interview experience with community partners.

Ms. Virtudazo further emphasized her dedication to interdisciplinary education, stating, "I recognize the importance of incorporating other content areas in my classroom to ensure that all students are equipped with the skills necessary to thrive after high school."

Ms. Valencia commends Ms. Virtudazo's dedication to ongoing professional development, citing her acceptance into the MMPP Graduate Certificate Program: "She spends time after school tutoring students in the English Learner Program in hopes of closing the learning gaps for these students."

Ms. Valencia asserts, "Kim's strong work ethic, character, and leadership results in the respect, trust, and the willingness of others to follow her lead."

"I am determined to continuously improve practices as the academy lead by always accepting feedback, reviewing data, and always willing to learn and grow as a leader," said Virtudazo.
