Ms. Ortiz is a staunch advocate for her students. She understands her student's needs. Ms. Ortiz is cognizant of body language and other non-verbal cues, and she communicates appropriately and effectively with students regardless of cultural background, age, gender, literacy skill level or disability. Her critical thinking ability to analyze information gathered from unbiased observation and communication are unparalleled. She objectively evaluates each case by collecting information through observation, interviews and research. By thinking critically and without prejudice, she is able to make informed decisions, identify the best resources, and formulate the best plan to help her students, instilling confidence in her judgment.

Ms. Ortiz does an amazing job as school social worker. She is always available to help students in need and does a wonderful job communicating with students and parents. She is a committed professional who puts the well-being of students first. I feel privileged to work with this dedicated social worker.
Ms. Ortiz is an amazing person. She always greets me with a smile and makes my day better. What is more, she goes the extra mile to help students and their families. She is more heavily involved in student concerns than any other school social worker I have encountered. She also serves as a translator for our IEP meetings. One of the standout initiatives spearheaded by Jessica Ortiz includes Celebrate October’s Hispanic Culture. This initiative has benefited our Spanish Speaking students, teachers, and parents. The results speak volumes, and we even had parents donate a wonderful Hispanic feast to staff to celebrate the event.
Moreover, Jessica Ortiz embodies qualities that are essential for a life changer: empathy, resilience, and a relentless drive to make the world a better place. Jessica will stop everything she is doing to help translate a conversation to a parent. She understands how to express the harder conversations needed to help our students thrive. By the way, Our school serves students who are expelled from their home school for drugs, weapons, and other severe breaches of conduct.This experience not only highlights her ability to lead but also her potential to inspire others to act.

I've known Ms Ortiz for 20 years now. She's an amazing professional, colleague and I'm proud to also call her a friend. It always impressed me her dedication as a professional, daughter and mother. She always did her job with dedication, compassion and kindness, while raising two wonderful young men and caring for her ill mother. I'm a mother now, and I don't know how she handled everything so gracefully. We have gone separate ways, and even though lots of miles and different states have us apart, She's just always a call away. I'm so proud of all of her accomplishment, but it doesn't surprise me. Her commitment and work ethics speaks for itself.
Ms. Ortiz was the best teacher at Davenport high school. She made learning fun and interesting. Her class room was a safe place for all students of any race, gender, or religion. When she left it really broke my heart to know I wouldn’t be able to go visit her in between classes. She will forever be my favorite teacher.
