Music that Describes Tammie

Tammie Akin was nominated by a colleague, Jo Lynn Schultz.

Mrs. Akin is dedicated to her subject area and ignites a passion in her students for whatever they want to pursue. Through her work both in the classroom and through FFA (Future Farmers of America), she opens doors for students to explore leadership and career development skills in a safe learning environment. Mrs. Akin allows the students to choose what contests or community service events they want to participate in, facilitating their practice/participation. She took two teams to compete at the 97th National FFA Convention, and her marketing team came back as a Silver Emblem Semi-Finalist in the event (top 16 in the Nation). In October of 2024, Mrs. Akin facilitated her students' participation in a community-wide outreach for children for Halloween. She also hosted a horse show to get families outside and involved in a community activity.

Her passion is seeing her students follow their interests. She currently has multiple students pursuing higher education degrees and working in agricultural pathways. She even has a student finishing her post-secondary degree in Tanzania, focusing on studying endangered species. She is constantly working with her students to help them realize their place in their hometown and beyond while also helping them find their passion for their future.

The fact that Mrs. Akin has her students’ attention and respect at the same time says it all. It’s very apparent that they love her as much as she loves them. The amount of extra time and money she puts into her classes and programs just shows she will go to great lengths to have the best for her students. She is a blessing to our school system!

Life changer. That’s Mrs. Tammie Akin. She goes above and beyond for her students in and out of the classroom. She is also the best FFA advisor. She spends many extra hours planning for and driving to and from events for her FFA members. She helps them find their place in the crazy world and helps mold them into leaders. Thank you Mrs. Akin for all you do and for helping my girl find what she loves! You have helped shape her future! ??

Life changer! That accurately describes Mrs Akin. As a parent of a former student, Mrs. Akin instilled a passion for Agriculture into my daughter and influenced the trajectory of her life. Mrs Akin’s enthusiasm is contagious! Due to her passion and dedication to students, several are pursuing careers in the field of agriculture…including my daughter. My daughter is currently a senior at the University of TN, Knoxville and is majoring in Environmental Science. She is also an ambassador for the Herbert School of Agriculture. I have no doubt that she would have pursued other pathways had it not been for this exemplary role-model. The leadership opportunities provided by Mrs Akin and FFA are what have led her to excel at the university level. Thank you for changing lives and inspiring all who know you.
