Danielle Champlin was nominated by a colleague, Carolyn Coulson.

"I am the school nurse for a large rural elementary school. Danielle is our cafeteria lady who goes way above and beyond for students and the community. Danielle is always looking for ways to inculcate fresh foods and more nutrition into the students' diets. She works very closely with me on dietary restrictions and allergies, not only to ensure the safety of the students, but to make sure all students are included. If a student has a food issue, she will always proactively look for alternatives for the students so no one is left out," said Coulson. "She knows the students, who needs a little 'extra,' and who needs different choices then what's offered that day. In addition, she has taken on the role of a mentor for a mentally challenged adult in our community. She gives this person purpose and continuity three days a week by allowing them to work in the cafeteria setting with guidance. There are almost too many little details that she sees to daily to even put here in writing! Danielle's compassion and diligence for the children in her care is amazing. She makes my job and the care for our population so much better by being part of our school."
