Robert Deuel was nominated by a colleague, Mariia Taylor.
Mr. Deuel is 76 years old and has been a cook in Naukati School for over 7 years. He does everything perfectly: cooking, cleaning, serving, all the paperwork...all by himself! Students love him and the food he cooks, as he makes every meal delicious. Mr. Deuel is a professional, as he knows everything and follows all food safety standards and CNP requirements.

Thank you Robert for providing meals for our district for many years. Well fed children can pay attention and learn more. It is a lot of work to do all the food services tasks, from ordering, scheduling, cooking, clear down to cleaning up for the next meal. You are the heart of the school. Food is essential. Only when we can get past survival mode can we progress to learning and thriving. Thank you again for all you do!

Your punctuality and commitment shine through as you’re always there first thing in the morning, greeting students with a friendly smile and setting a positive tone for their day.
With the most seniority among our staff, you bring a wealth of experience, warmth, and reliability that everyone values. You are a constant, uplifting presence for our students and staff alike, and we’re so grateful for the energy and care you pour into each meal. Mr. Deuel has worked at our district for many years. He is there everyday to make healthy meals for our Naukati students. Other than the occasional staff or student on special days, he makes the meals all by himself. Not only does Mr. Deuel make the meals he also takes care of our wood fired boilers to help keep the staff and kids warm. Bob goes above and beyond for our district. Please don't overlook this wonderful asset to the Southeast Island School District.

Bob, you are absolutely amazing!! We are, indeed EXTREMELY lucky to have you as our cook here in Naukati. You keep a tidy and sanitary kitchen, handling everything from meal setup and cleanup, to cooking, paperwork, and grocery orders and pick up. You never miss a day of work, and can be flexible with meals/make substitutions when needed (a critical skill for our area!). You also have no problem preparing for special events, like field trips, and do not complain when there are issues that make your job harder, such as when the water heater broke and you had to heat water to wash dishes here recently. As a lead teacher, I know I can count on you; I know that you have everything kitchen and food related covered. Knowing this gives me peace of mind and takes a tremendous load off of my plate. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate how hard you work and all you do!...On top of your school duties, it is also worth noting that you make the most delicious homemade bread, and contribute heavily to school/community dinners such as Thanksgiving, where you're known for preparing the meats and rolls. In addition, kids and adults alike look forward to trick-or-treating at your house each year for your signature caramel candies!
