As a fourth-grade teacher, Ms. Yoshinaga also incorporates Hawaiiana into the curriculum, giving her students a deep appreciation for Hawaiian culture and history. She even organizes a transformative three-day, two-night field trip to the Big Island for fourth and fifth graders—an experience that broadens their horizons, deepens their understanding, and creates lifelong memories.

Her leadership extends far beyond her classroom. Whether guiding school initiatives, mentoring peers, or leading professional development sessions, Ms. Yoshinaga inspires others to strive for excellence and work collaboratively toward shared goals. Her dedication to nurturing students goes beyond academics—she cultivates a supportive and caring environment where every child feels valued, encouraged, and safe.

Whether collaborating with colleagues, engaging with parents, or inspiring students, Ms. Yoshinaga fosters a sense of community and belonging that strengthens the school's culture.

Additionally, she is the go-to person for organizing faculty celebrations and events, creating opportunities for connection and appreciation that unite staff. Above all, she upholds the highest moral and ethical standards in everything she does. Her integrity, compassion, and unwavering dedication make her a role model for the school community. Mrs. Yoshinaga is a tremendously important asset at Hokulani School. She is a passionate, engaging teacher and school leader. As a classroom teacher, she connects deeply and easily with her students. Her classroom is a place where students feel loved, supported and inspired to learn. Her students love her! In addition to being a classroom teacher, Mrs. Yoshinaga is a school leader. She constantly volunteers to help our school outside of the classroom. She currently serves as one of the advisors for our Robotics program and Student Council. She is very involved in all aspects of Hokulani School life. Among many initiatives, she helps organize activities and events such as co-planning our annual 4th-grade trip to the Big Island of Hawaii, helps organize participation in the Kaimuki Christmas Parade, took a leadership role in our WASC evaluation and organizes events which help with faculty/staff SEL.

Laurie is a teacher of life. She leads & teaches by example. She is less “preach” & more “practice” in her teaching not only with her students in the classroom, & the yoga room but in the day to day interactions with friends, colleagues & even strangers alike.
