Music that Describes Dean

Dean Olenik was nominated by the superintendent, Vernon Orndorff.

Mr. Olenik is a LifeChanger in the community through his extraordinary leadership and innovative approach to education. As part of Cody High School's "POD" Class, Mr. Olenik facilitated a transformative learning experience by leading students in a mock "Governor's Advisory Committee." Students explored the Shoshone River Watershed's ecological, environmental, and community impacts, focusing on the influence of dams on local wildlife and Mr. Olenik's lifestyle. Under his guidance, students represented key stakeholders such as the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), recreational industries, real estate developers, city zoning officials, fishing industries, Game and Fish, ranchers, and other groups. By conducting in-depth research and interviews, students deepened their understanding of complex community issues and developed critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.

His commitment to producing a nurturing and inspiring atmosphere is evident in how he empowers students to tackle real-world problems while fostering collaboration and diverse perspectives. His ability to create meaningful educational opportunities and dedication to high moral and ethical standards exemplify his role as a leader and mentor. Mr. Olenik consistently demonstrates excellent professional performance, positively shaping the school's atmosphere and making a lasting difference in the lives of his students. His impact extends far beyond the classroom, as he equips students with the skills and confidence to become active, informed community members.

In closing, Mr. Olenik's leadership and vision have transformed the CHS POD class into an unparalleled interdisciplinary learning experience. By collaborating with his colleagues in English, Outdoor Education, and Science, he has created a program that fulfills academic standards and equips students with practical skills, such as earning their credentials as certified "River Raft Guides." Through this innovative approach, students gain a deeper understanding of a river's ecological, environmental, and socio-economic impacts on diverse community stakeholders. Mr. Olenik's dedication to fostering collaboration, critical thinking, and real-world application exemplifies his unwavering commitment to student success and community engagement.

"His ability to inspire students and colleagues while maintaining high standards of professionalism and ethical conduct makes him a true LifeChanger in every sense of the word. For these reasons, Dean Olenik deserves recognition," said Orndorff.
