Mia Battistone was nominated by Ashlee Flint, a member of the community.
Ms. Battistone is not only a teacher, but the kind of educator who shifts the trajectory of her students’ lives. You don’t walk out of her class just knowing how to cook or budget—you leave understanding yourself better. She teaches Family and Consumer Sciences like it’s a calling, not a curriculum. She leads with both empathy and excellence.
For all her efforts, she was named the National Teacher of the Year for her field.
"I nominated her because you can tell her impact goes far beyond any title or award. She’s the kind of teacher students remember 20 years from now. She's the one who saw them, who made learning feel like it mattered," said Flint. "What struck me most is how involved she is. From mentoring FCCLA students to collaborating with her school community, Mia embodies the spirit of a LifeChanger. She leads with heart, holds high standards, and somehow makes every student feel like they belong. To me, Mia represents everything that’s good about education in Minnesota. It’s an honor just to be the person who gets to say, 'Hey, the world should hear about her.'"
