Melanie Urban was nominated by Ashlee Flint, a member of the community.
"I'm honored to nominate Melanie Urban for LifeChanger of the Year. She has spent her career pouring into her students and school community, and it's clear to anyone who meets her that she was born to teach," said Flint.
What makes Ms. Urban stand out isn't just her lesson plans or classroom management. It's the way she makes her students feel. Every child in her room feels seen, valued, and capable of more than they imagined. She brings energy and heart to everything she does, whether it's leading a class, helping a struggling student one-on-one, or staying late to prep for the next day.
She's also a leader among her peers—someone others naturally turn to for support, collaboration, and encouragement. Her influence goes far beyond her classroom. She's mentored new teachers, helped shape district initiatives, and continuously looks for ways to improve learning for every child in her care. Even after receiving the $15,000 Outstanding Educator Award back in 2018, she's never stopped growing or giving.
"She doesn't do this work for awards or attention. She does it because she genuinely loves her students and believes in the power of education to change lives. This nomination is just a small way to recognize the significant impact she's had over the years. I can't think of anyone more deserving," said Flint.
