Lloyd Goldberg was nominated anonymously.
Mr. Goldberg's classroom is built on respect, accountability, positive support, and joy. He focuses on finding and celebrating the good, the improvements, and the growth in every student. He uses data and ongoing one-on-one conferences to demonstrate to each learner that they are valuable, intelligent, and capable—regardless of their past standardized test scores.
Every day, each student receives a warm greeting with a high five. Mr. Goldberg keeps spare materials for anyone who comes unprepared, ensuring that a missing pen or book is never a barrier to learning. Each student receives at least two personalized, handwritten postcards per year, and many receive an additional one as they transition to high school.
When students arrive late, they are welcomed with a cheerful greeting. When they return from an absence, it is cause for celebration. His classroom is a safe space where students can express themselves freely in appearance, voice, interests, and personality.
Mr. Goldberg trusts and respects his students, and he encourages them to think critically without fear of judgment. Mr. Goldberg holds them accountable while also standing firmly in their corner. This includes regular communication with families, home visits, attending weekend sporting events and concerts, and, when necessary, providing clothing, food, or other essential items.
This culture of care produces results: his students consistently earn the highest test scores in the school and have some of the lowest behavioral incidents. More importantly, they thrive as human beings, often maintaining lifelong relationships with Mr. Goldberg because they know he created a classroom environment where they were safe, valued, and inspired to grow.
Mr. Goldberg has many career awards and accomplishments, including:
- 2012 CCEA Star Educator of the Year;

Mr. Goldberg made me feel like I belonged in his class when I came to the new school. He tried to get me to run cross country and now play rugby. He was even going to buy me shoes so I could be on the team. He always talks to the people helping me and gives me a fist bump every day. I have never had a teacher like him. You should give him this award.
Best teacher I've had in a long time. Encourages me to continue the goals I want to achieve. Has fun activities for the students to do while also teaching the things he's told to and helping us get it done.
It’s a privilege to recommend Mr. Lloyd Goldberg for the LifeChanger of the Year Award. I’ve known Lloyd for over 20 years, since our days at Ithaca College where we were teammates on the track team. Even then, his work ethic, character, and drive to make a difference stood out. What impressed me most wasn’t just his dedication to training or academics—it was the integrity and care he brought to everything he did.
That same spirit has carried into his career as an educator. Lloyd has built a reputation as someone who not only teaches with passion, but leads with empathy. He is deeply committed to his students’ growth and well-being, and it's clear from the overwhelming support he’s received—from current and former students, colleagues, and families—that his influence runs deep.
People don’t just remember Lloyd as a good teacher; they describe him as the person who helped them believe in themselves, who made school worth showing up for, and who changed the course of their lives. As a friend, I also know Lloyd to be a devoted father, husband, and someone who genuinely strives to lift others up, both inside and outside the classroom.
Lloyd doesn’t seek recognition—but he more than deserves it. His impact is lasting, personal, and wide-reaching. He is, in every sense of the word, a true LifeChanger.
Mr. Goldberg was probably one of the only teachers that made me like coming to school in the morning. He was always supportive of me no matter what, and I could tell that he cared about me. Even if I was just one student out of hundreds, he still found time and energy to show he cared. I will forever remember him as my favorite 8th grade teacher.
Mr. Goldberg’s culture of care shows up in countless small moments. His students don’t just score at the top of the school — they light up when they talk about his class. They remember the way he listened, the way he believed in them, and how his room always felt like a place they belonged. Years later, many still reach out to share their successes, knowing that the care he showed them helped shape who they’ve become.
Lloyd is a great teacher going out of his way to adapt the curriculum to his students and make it fun for them. While the students were reading the Diary of Ann Frank he pulled up the 3D apartment they were in to show the student where it was taking place and how it looked. This allowed the students to truly understand how the Frank family was living.
Mr. Goldberg was an inspiring teacher who truly cared about his students. His passion for English made every lesson meaningful, and he encouraged us to express ourselves and think deeply. I’ll always appreciate the kindness and dedication he brought to our class. Mr. Goldberg was one of those teachers who truly made a difference. He inspired a love for reading and writing through his kindness, patience, and genuine passion for teaching. His class was a place where everyone felt encouraged to express themselves and grow.
Mr. Goldberg is my teacher and my cross country coach. Even though I am not the best student and definitely not the best runner he never makes me feel bad and is always telling me how great I can be. I don't like school and I like running even less, but I keep coming because of Mr. Goldberg.
I’m happy to support Lloyd. I’ve known him for 30 years and time and again he has shown himself to be dedicated to whatever he puts his mind to. The children under his tutelage know they are lucky as he wears his passion on his sleeve
This is the second time I get to be in Mr. Goldberg's class. I first had him in 6th grade for English, and he was immediately and always my favorite teacher. He accepted me for who I was and never tried to change me. He fought for me to express myself and never allowed anyone, student or adult, to make fun of me or make me feel bad. In 7th grade, when I went to another school, all I wanted was to come back to Mr. Goldberg's school, and I kept emailing him with my problems. He always answered me, trying to help. Now that I am back at the school with Mr. Goldberg, I get to be in his class and be my genuine self. He should get this award because there are so many kids like me that Mr. Goldberg has changed their lives, and he doesn't even know it. If he gets this award, maybe he will finally know how important he is.
I am so happy to show support to Lloyd Goldberg. He is an incredible educator and colleague who goes above and beyond for students and staff alike. His commitment to excellence and his constant care for others is a true inspiration.
Thank you Mr Goldberg I learned a lot from his class and I might have not passed without him.
Thank you Mr. Goldberg you helped me pass middle school.
I am new to Silvestri and Mr. Goldberg made me feel like he knew me forever. Even though I didn't know anyone he made sure I made friends and knew everything to do in his class. No other teacher has been as nice to me and made sure that I am successful. Mr. Goldberg makes me laugh and stress less at school and I always look forward to coming to his class instead of trying to avoid most of my other teachers. Before I was homeschooled but if I knew Mr. Goldberg existed before I would have wanted to come to school sooner.

Mr. Goldberg is a PHENOMENAL teacher. He helps all of his students understand different things. Mr. Goldberg makes class fun and we learn interesting stories and get to do writing about ourselves. We always know how much he supports us and fights for us when the school tries to do stupid things. He wants us to learn and makes sure the kids who are distractions either fix their behavior or leave the class. I wish every teacher was like Mr. Goldberg.
If I didn't have Mr. Goldberg I probably won't come to school anymore. Mr. Goldberg will fight for us and make sure we learn as much as possible. Teachers choose a noble profession that may not provide significant financial rewards, but the intangibles are immeasurable. Mr Goldberg truly takes joy in his profession and celebrates his students’ accomplishments. His enthusiasm and passion for teaching allow him to connect with his students and leave a lasting impression of knowledge and joy of learning. He embodies what we all look for in educators.
I have had the pleasure of working with Lloyd Goldberg over the last two years, and I can confidently say that he is not only a great teacher, but a great person. Anyone who knows Lloyd knows that he is more than just an English teacher--he is a "life changer" in every aspect of the word. He consistently gets some of the highest test scores from his students, not just because he knows how to teach well, but because his students truly know how much he cares about and believes in them. As a teacher who works closely with Lloyd every day, I can also say that he pushes me to be a better teacher and encourage my students to go above and beyond, as well. Lloyd more than deserves to be named LifeChanger of the Year!
Lloyd is an incredibly supportive collegue. He has countlessly been a voice in our community and has remained firm in supporting his fellow teachers and students. He has connected with his students not only in his own classroom, but students accross the campus. Numeorous students can be heard praising Lloyd through the hallways. His hardwork and dedication to his craft has made an impact on many of us.
Mr.Goldberg was and still is my favorite English teacher. He was my 8th grade English teacher, even though he’s not my teacher anymore, I still know he’s my favorite. He is really funny, kind, and awesome. His class was only quiet during tests and I had a lot of fun in there while doing my work at the same time. I learned stuff in there I never knew I had to know. He also made me feel good about going to school because of his words of encouragement.
Working with Lloyd Goldberg at Silvestri has been a great experience. He is a positive colleague and his students like how he conducts himself during class. He does what he can to connect the curriculum to the real world for the students, a skill that is going to be valuable to the students later on during their school careers and beyond.
My favorite teacher was my 8th grade English teacher, Mr. Goldberg. He is considerate because he always takes the time to listen and understand his students. He is nice and caring, making sure that everyone feels included and supported in class. Mr. Goldberg is also cheerful, which makes learning fun and enjoyable. His positive attitude encouraged me to do my best, and I appreciate the way he made English class a place where I felt comfortable and excited to learn.
It is rare to encounter someone who not only excels in their role but also takes the time to invest in the professional growth of those around them. I had the privilege of working alongside Lloyd Goldberg, and I can confidently say that I learned an immense amount from his expertise, dedication, and approach to teaching.
One of the things that stands out most about Lloyd is his exceptional ability to communicate complex ideas in a way that is both engaging and easy to understand. His lessons were always thoughtfully structured, and they had an innate skill for breaking down difficult concepts into manageable steps, which made it easier for students to grasp.
What truly sets Lloyd apart, however, is his unwavering commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive classroom environment. He really does have a rare gift for building relationships with students and creating a safe space where every individual feels valued and heard. This skill not only helped students thrive academically but also gave them the confidence to take risks and grow personally.
Lloyd was always generous with his time and knowledge. Whether it was providing feedback on lesson plans, offering advice on classroom management, or sharing new educational resources, I always felt supported and encouraged. His mentorship was invaluable to me, and I truly believe I became a better educator because of his guidance.
He’s a great teacher and is able to make the room laugh, and very nice and understanding. He will help you with your problems if you have some and he will make you laugh when you least expect or when you most need it. He’s quite generous and loves teaching!
Very fun and social/welcoming
I have witnessed Lloyd change the lives of students in as little as a single class period. He is a truly unique and remarkable teacher, the kind whose impact extends far beyond the classroom walls. Fellow teachers request that their own children be placed in his class, parents specifically ask for him by name, and students consistently hope to be taught by him. His influence does not end when students leave his classroom—high school students return to thank him for the difference he made in their lives, older former students invite him to their weddings, and many still write to him years later. Lloyd is the very definition of a life-changing educator, leaving a lasting mark on every student fortunate enough to learn from him.
