As the Special Education Administrator in a small community, Andrea McIntosh wears many hats in order to support students with disabilities, their family members, teachers and building leaders. Her nominator, an anonymous parent of a student, was surprised to find out that Ms. McIntosh not only attends every move-in case conference, but personally meets every family and student. She provides supports to leaders and teachers to help students be successful in general education classes with their peers, regardless of their special education needs. She will often assist teachers in writing IEPs, researching effective strategies, and even meeting with students to help plan for their needs. Ms. McIntosh has gone above and beyond to communicate effectively and works tirelessly (particularly on weekends and late evenings) to support the students in the Speedway community. She greets everyone she meets with a warm smile, hug or handshake and leads with the intention to problem solve and build relationships.
