Amanda Cluley was nominated by her colleague, Raul Platas.
"Amanda Cluley is the most dedicated coach and educator I have had the pleasure to work with in my career as a teacher," said Platas. "She is the head coach at Creek Valley Middle School and encourages excellence from all of her students. Coach Cluley works with special needs students during their P.E. period. She always has the period filled with activities that accommodate the needs of special education students, leading to new skill development. As an educator, I have not come across a coach as dedicated to the needs of the special needs population as Coach Cluley is. Watching Coach Cluley integrate all of my students and their various abilities is encouraging and helps create a working environment where we all push ourselves to better serve students. In seeing Coach Cluley interact with her athletes, it is evident she is more than a Coach. She is a role model who encourages the best out of her students and colleagues," said Platas.
As our oldest daughter, Mandy had always been the role model for her younger siblings. She is one of the most caring, loving, and committed teachers to her students and co-workers. Even as a little girl, Mandy always showed the spirit of giving and self-sacrifice to her family and friends. Her work with many special needs students on a daily basis reinforces her ideals that everyone should be treated with dignity and respect and given the opportunity to make a difference in the world. I can’t think of a more deserving recipient of the this award then Mandy Cluley.
Coach Cluley is an exceptional coach and teacher who exemplifies what it means to lead with heart, collaboration, and purpose. She is deeply committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students, especially our Life Skills students. Through thoughtful planning and creativity, she designs activities that allow every student to participate meaningfully, building confidence, teamwork, and joy in movement.
Beyond her work in the gym, Coach Cluley collaborates closely with both special education and general education staff to ensure that every lesson and activity meets the diverse needs of her students. She is proactive and solution-oriented, always approaching challenges with a positive, “can-do” spirit that inspires those around her. Whether adapting a PE unit, organizing a collaborative event, or finding new ways to promote inclusion, Coach Cluley’s dedication shines through in everything she does. Her teamwork, compassion, and unwavering commitment make her an invaluable member of our Creek Valley community.
Coach Cluley has a genuine heart for every student at Creek Valley Middle School and ensures that all students have opportunities to shine in athletics and physical education. Her teaching is rooted in equity, compassion, and high expectations, and she creates an environment where students grow in both skill and confidence—while having fun along the way. Coach Cluley’s positive, can-do attitude is contagious. She is always willing to step in wherever needed, offering support not only to students but also to colleagues. Her ability to balance coaching, mentoring new coaches, caring for every CVMS student, and pursuing her master’s degree is nothing short of inspiring. Coach Cluley truly has a heart of gold and an unwavering commitment to doing what’s best for others. Creek Valley would not be the same without her leadership, kindness, and dedication. She is the very definition of a Life Changer.
