"Coach Farrell is a fantastic human being. She absolutely loves her career as a physical education coach. She teaches our Derfelt Dolphins our school's 5 Growth Mindset: being responsible, respectful, kind, safe, and honest. She teaches our students many other life skills as well, but my heart was touched when a bunch of students helped to calm down another student," said the nominator.
A student was struggling with regulating their emotions when four students showed them care, empathy, and compassion. They all came together to help this student calm down and made the student feel included in the activities about to begin in class.
"I found out later that this student also has a friend in this class (one of the four students) who checks on this student daily. Coach Farrell is DOLPHIN-ately amazing, and she hosts many fun activities, too! She makes physical exercise competitive and fun with events such as Skipper of the Day, Kids Heart Challenge, and Field Day. The most memorable activity that the kids and parents talk about, even after leaving Derfelt, is learning the Monster Mash. They all do the dance at the Fall Festival in their costumes," said the nominator.
"Thank you, Coach Farrell, for making our students love exercising and competing, for always recognizing several students every day for their kind gestures and actions, having students be MVPs, but most of all, for instilling our Growth Mindset in our students, too," said the nominator.
