Music that Describes Rebecca

Rebecca Larrieu was nominated by Cherub Hartigan, a parent community advocate.

Ms. Larrieu exemplifies what it means to be a LifeChanger. Her unwavering commitment to students, impact on school culture, and professional excellence inspire all who work alongside her. Her influence on students goes far beyond academics. She has a remarkable ability to connect with students on a personal level, understanding their unique needs and guiding them with patience, compassion, and high expectations.

Her impact is evident in the success stories of countless former students—building confidence, fostering resilience, and helping them envision a future filled with possibilities. She plays a key role in creating a school community grounded in inclusivity and belonging. Whether greeting students at the door with a smile or driving programs that help students develop social-emotional skills, accountability, and the ability to make respectful choices, her presence enhances the building's culture in visible, lasting ways. She creates a safe space where students, staff, and families feel a true sense of belonging.

A natural leader, she has taken on numerous roles beyond the classroom, including mentoring new teachers. She is deeply committed to supporting the special needs community in Reno, actively raising essential funds to ensure her students continue to receive a high-quality education at an accessible, low tuition rate. Her colleagues regularly seek her guidance, and her ability to lead with both strength and humility sets an example for all.

Her professional record speaks for itself. In a northern Nevada school of only 50 students, she has made a significant impact—earning consistent praise for her teaching and being named a PBS-Reno Teacher of the Year finalist, a recognition that speaks volumes about her dedication and excellence. She brings innovation to her practice, collaborates effectively with colleagues, and remains committed to lifelong learning, all while maintaining the highest standards of instructional quality.

At the heart of her approach is her deep belief in the power of a nurturing environment. Her school and classroom are safe havens, places where students feel valued, heard, and empowered. She creates a space where mistakes are embraced as learning opportunities and every child knows they matter.

She holds herself to the highest ethical standards in every aspect of her work. She is a person of deep integrity, consistently modeling fairness, honesty, and respect. Her students, families, and colleagues trust her implicitly, knowing she will always act in others' best interests.

"In every sense of the word, Rebecca Larrieu is a LifeChanger. Her impact is her legacy, and I can think of no one more worthy of this recognition," said Hartigan.

RJ is one of the most supportive and caring people I have had the pleasure to work for. She has taught me so much about what it means to be a true educator. She has given me so much wisdom and encouragement, and fully embodies what it means to be a mentor. She treats all of the students with respect and makes it so clear that she cares about them. You can tell by the way the students interact with her, that they feel safe and loved when she is around. She has helped to create such a welcoming school and environment where students feel empowered. She genuinely puts her whole heart and soul into everything that she does for the school and beyond. She definitely deserves to be recognized for all of her amazing work!
