Music that Describes Katiria

Katiria Rodriguez was nominated by her colleague, Arsenio Manalo.

Ms. Rodriguez has transformed physical education at Lynch Elementary into so much more than just exercise. She's created a space where every student feels included, capable, and proud of their progress. She teaches her students that fitness isn't about being the fastest or strongest, but about trying your best, supporting one another, and building healthy habits for life. Her creative lessons keep students excited about movement, teamwork, and personal growth.

Beyond the gym, she mentors students, cheers them on at events, and makes sure they know they're valued both on and off the field. One day, a shy student was struggling to participate in a relay game. They felt embarrassed and wanted to sit out. Instead of letting them withdraw, Ms. Rodriguez knelt beside them, offered encouragement, and said, "We all start somewhere—what matters is that you move forward." She ran the first lap with the student, matching their pace and cheering them on the whole way. By the end of class, that same student was smiling and high-fiving teammates. It was a small moment, but it showed how Ms. Rodriguez uses kindness and connection to build confidence. She doesn't just teach P.E. She teaches perseverance.

Ms. Rodriguez exemplifies what it means to be a transformative educator. In her PE classes at Lynch Elementary, she has created far more than a space for physical activity – she has built a sanctuary where every student discovers their own strength, both physical and emotional. What distinguishes Ms. Rodriguez is her exceptional gift for connecting with each individual student, whether she's leading a large group activity or offering personal encouragement to a hesitant child, running alongside them until they find their confidence. Her colleagues consistently highlight how she transforms "I can't" into "I'll try" through her unique blend of high expectations and infinite patience. She doesn't just adapt lessons for students with special needs; she reimagines them so everyone can shine. Beyond the gymnasium walls, Ms. Rodriguez's impact reverberates throughout the entire school community. Students attend school excited to see her, participation in activities has increased, and a stronger sense of belonging permeates the campus. Her calming presence helps dysregulated students find their center, while her genuine care makes even the shyest child feel valued and capable. Katiria Rodriguez doesn't just teach physical education – she teaches perseverance, builds confidence, and shows every student that progress matters more than perfection. She is the teacher who runs alongside you until you're ready to run on your own, and that makes all the difference.

Ms. Rodriguez is one of those teachers who truly makes a difference—inside and outside the classroom. In PE, she does so much more than teach sports or exercises. She breaks every activity into meaningful, creative steps that help her students learn, grow, and believe in themselves. Her lessons are fun, engaging, and always full of energy, but what makes them truly special is the care and thought she puts into every single one. Even with a class of 50 or more students, Ms. Rodriguez always finds time to notice the ones who need a little extra love. Whether it’s a student who’s feeling withdrawn or one who’s having a tough moment, she pauses, listens, and meets them with empathy and understanding. Her calm presence and caring heart help students feel seen, supported, and ready to try again. She also goes above and beyond to make sure every student can participate and shine. By meeting weekly with the Special Education team, she thoughtfully adapts her lessons so all students feel included and capable. Her kindness, patience, and dedication make her classroom a place where every child belongs—and where they leave not only stronger in their bodies, but in their hearts too. I cannot think of someone who is more deserving of this reward than her.

Kat is the definition of doing what is best for students. She pours genuine love into her teaching and truly cares for each student. While holding every student to a high standard, she is able to teach them about discipline and reward. If ever a student is struggling, she is able to scaffold every slight activity to make it doable for all, leaving all students with a sense of accomplishment. More than her actions with PE related activities, Kat has such a calming personality, that makes everyone successful when she has an entire grade level attending PE at the same time. If a student is disregulated, she is naturally able to calm them down, connect with them, and engage them back in the activity. Students attend school, specifically knowing they will see Mrs. Rodriguez during the day. She has single handedly, positively affected her school's attendance, participation in after-school clubs, and the overall sense of community from students, parents, and colleagues. If anyone deserves this award, it is hands down, Kat!!!

I second this nomination! Mrs. Rodriguez helped me feel heard and understood when I dealt with several challenges at the beginning of the school year. That empathy helped me push through. I love her sense of humor in stressful situations. She also puts a ton of effort into creating events and helping them run smoothly.
