Grethel Espinoza was nominated by a colleague, Melissa Arredondo Elder.

Coach Espinoza is an unstoppable woman who coaches middle school students in South El Paso. These students often come from low-income homes. The campus is a Title 1 campus in a lower socio-economic community that consists mostly of at-risk youth. Coach Espinoza goes beyond the role of a coach by mentoring students academically, socially, and emotionally. She has helped countless students build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging, ensuring they succeed both on and off the field. Her enthusiasm and dedication foster a culture of respect, teamwork, and positivity. Her love for her students creates an inclusive environment where every student feels valued. Coach Espinoza creates a safe and supportive environment where students can thrive. She encourages personal growth, celebrates diversity, and ensures every student feels empowered to reach their potential. 

A mother of eight, Coach Espinoza grew up in a military family and moved frequently, an experience that taught her adaptability and resilience—qualities she now instills in her students. She is a phenomenal coach, a dedicated mentor, and a true LifeChanger.

Coach Espinoza is an awesome coach to work. As the school's wellness coach we work well alongside each other. She is always brainstorming ways to keep staff informed of programs available.
