I worked with Clarence for four years at Vine Middle School and cannot say enough about how valuable this man is to education. He brought in the program called “real talk,“ and it is incredibly successful. I saw this program transform young men’s lives and know without a doubt that Clarence is at the head of that change. He does not hide his background, his struggles, and his accomplishments and feel the boys need to know obstacles can be overcome.
Mr. C has worked hard for our kids for years! He brings experiences and people to our school that our kids would not have access to otherwise. It has been an honor to serve alongside Mr. Swearengen the past 5 years at Vine Middle Magnet School. An honest "real talk" message is what he provides students, staff, parents, and community members on a daily basis. As educators, we never really know the impact of our work on young lives. However, it is evident when you spend time with Mr. "C" of the impact he is making in our school and community. Current students seek time and advice from him each day. What is remarkable though is the number of former students that return to Vine on an annual basis to visit, provide updates on their lives, and to continue to seek advice from Mr. "C". I have known Clarence since I came to Knoxville six years ago. At the time, I was working at the University of Tennessee in the process of developing a program for Black male students. I reached out to many in the local community and Clarence was one of the first people to reach back out. He was willing to support in any way because his focused was on creating opportunities for young people to be successful and he didn't care about who would get the credit he just wanted to be involved in creating opportunities. Knox County Schools and the city of Knoxville are blessed to have such a hard working individual who is selfless and committed to our young people.

Mr.Swearengen was instrumental with mentoring our young men at Egypt Elem. He tutored and allowed many of our students to participate in his youth basketball camp free of charge. Clarence is the life changer and well deserves this award. He loves his job, staff and kids. Giving back to the community is how he was raised. His continuous energy and urgency plays a great part in his daily functions. A great father, husband, team player and excellent leadership skills.
Clarence has always been a mentor to me. He always has something positive and encouraging to say. Such a blessing!
Mr. C spoke on behalf of Vine Middle at an assembly where I currently teach, and he instantly connected with and engaged a room full of elementary school students. I can only imagine the positive energy he brings to Vine daily. I'm so thankful for his presence and dedication to his community.
Mr. Swearengen is a strong partner with schools across Knox County. His leadership and passion for all students is evident and very appreciated. His work with students at Vine Middle is making a difference each day. We are a better school district because of his service and leadership!

Mr.C is like a superhero in our school and can deal with any thing a student deal wits and he does that by putting his self in our shoes and i know this because one day on November the 6th in class when i had an anxiety breakdown all the staff came down to the room to help but in order for someone to watch me instead of sending me to the head princble the princeble and staff sent me to Mr.C and When they did he gave me a cookie and told me this should help so i ate the cookie and waited for school to be over and inside his office he was talking to a parent about how he wanted a student to be succesfull and that made me really proud to be at vine middle magnet school to have alot of massive staff support for the students. Mr.C is AWESOME!!!!!
Mr.C is really great with the kids he works with them and he's really great with his community .The kids love him and he does a lot and i know this because he has done a lot for me and other kids .Mr.C always make sure his kids are doing what they are supposed to do and he makes sure his kids are okay and he see's if they're okay Mr.C deserves this award because he has and is still doing for vine and for his community . I believe that He should get the award because I know he's a good person and he doesn't just care about his self. He's going to give the money to the school so we can go and do more things. And really I never had a talk with him. But I know if I do get In trouble or get upset he will be there for me.
Mr.C has a great personality he well help on daily life situation. If you got problems with bully go to him if there was a fight and you need help so you wont get in trouble he the man. Mr.C can help when you got school situation. Thank you Mr.C for every thing.
Mr.Swearengen is a life changer. All the kids at Vine Middle School love him. He can help you with anything that you need help with. He supports us at vine to strive past your goals. And at real talk he tells us how to live our life in the real world. He's a very good principle at Vine Middle School and we love having him as one.

Mr.C is always helping around the school. During class change he is always in the hallway making sure we get to class. He always helps the students and gives us really good advice. Mr.C is also really supportive when people are performing in front of a lot of people. He is SO kind and helpful, I highly recommend him for this award.
One reason why Mr. Swearengen deserves this reward is, every Tuesday and Wednesday Mr. Swearengen brings in an guest speaker to talk about what steps we need to become men. Another reason why Mr. Swearengen deserves that reward is, in real talk he will takes us a lot of places such as Georgia,Washington D.C, etc. A third reason Mr. Swearengen deserves that reward is, he is very inspirational to everyone no matter what we do. Finally, the last reason I think Mr. Swearengen should get that reward is every single day he will go to every class room and say¨I love you students.¨ I also think of him as an uncle because he does anything in his will power to help make us a better community, a better school, how to make all of us better young men, and every Tuesday we have a guess speaker to help us know how to turn from a young men to a man.
Mr.C is cool he won't stop helping us kids in need. He cares about us kids at Vine a lot. He tries to never let us down when were sad. I love that Mr. C goes to Vine Middle School because he inspires us too do better everyday. When I see him, he's the teacher that makes me smile in the morning when I walk in to the school. All us Vine Middle School loves Coach C. We hopes he wins the money.
Mr. Swearengen is very supportive of everything that Vine does and tries to help when it is needed. I highly recommend him for this award.

Mr.C deserves this award he helps people he calms you down and changes your mood. With Mr.C around the school is a better place for the students and the teachers. The only difference with Mr C is he helps people be successful. He will help with all the terrible problems. He also comes to say hi to the students.

I do not really know Mr. C but I have heard of him around the school, and I have heard no bad comments about him. I have heard people talking about how much they like real talk, and there was one time some students where talking about how they saw Robert Booker and I was amazed that he´d got Robert Booker for the students in his school. So personally I don´t know him but after all the stuff I have heard I think he should win every award
Mr. Swearengen is always helping with everything. He is always in the halls during class change keeping everything in order. He always can offer great advice to students and he is always VERY supportive of all the different related arts, including band, art, chorus, and etc.

I have children at Vine and have for about 6 years been able to witness first hand his interactions with young people. He loves young people. He is invested in seeing the best in every young person he encounters. He sees potential in every young person even when they don’t see it in themselves. He is indeed a life changer!

I've known Clarence Swearengen since his playing days with the University of Tennessee. I'm proud to see the difference that he is making not just at Vine Middle Magnet School but in Knoxville. He's done a great job bringing in guest speakers to his Real Talk program to expose the kids to diversity and positivity that might not see in their normal day. It is obvious how much he cares and goes above and beyond to enrich his student's lives. He is able to impact these kids in so many ways that extend beyond the classroom.
