Music that Describes Jill
Jill Turner was nominated by her colleague, Angela Alcain.
Ms. Turner is the embodiment of what a great educator, coach and mentor should be. She is a dedicated educator in Family & Consumer Sciences, where she not only teaches students how to prepare healthy foods and live healthy lives, but how to be globally-minded. She has her students research other cultures and foods to share with their classmates.
Ms. Turner is a P-TECH mentor for students taking college courses in Hospitality Management while being enrolled in high school. She also serves as the Japan Exchange Program coordinator, where she coordinates Japanese student home stays with her students, welcoming events and field trips to share the American culture with Sister School students from Japan. Sometimes, educators can be stuck in older methods of teaching, but Ms. Turner is always ready to try new technologies and new approaches. She adds to her school's atmosphere by coordinating and managing almost all staff holiday gatherings, as well as evening events where the local community is welcomed into the school building.
Her involvement in mentoring and nurturing students goes even further. She coaches three sports: JV volleyball, swimming in the winter, and softball in the spring. Finally, she is the "Voice of the Eagles" at football games. She does all of this with a positive attitude, a smile on her face and an unmatched energy.
