Mr. Daley was recently named the 2025–2026 Alaska Teacher of the Year. He's a welding instructor whose 23-year career in Alaska has had a significant impact on students, industry partners, and the wider community. For the past 15 years at Hutchison High School, Mr. Daley has built welding and career-technical education programs that equip students with advanced technical skills and prepare them to succeed as professionals. His teaching extends beyond the welding booth, as he consistently instills the work ethic, safety awareness, responsibility, and confidence essential to long-term success in the trades.
Mr. Daley's accomplishments reflect both innovation and deep commitment. He launched a pipe welding academy in partnership with the Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center, creating a direct pathway for students to train on industry-standard equipment and techniques. He also founded the Girls Who Weld summer program, an initiative designed to welcome and empower young women who are interested in pursuing welding careers.
Through these efforts, Mr. Daley has expanded access to high-quality training and opened doors for students who might not otherwise see themselves in the skilled trades. A defining aspect of Mr. Daley's work is his dedication to building strong community and industry connections. He collaborates closely with local employers to ensure his programs reflect real workforce needs, making the training more relevant and increasing students' post-graduation opportunities. He also prioritizes service learning, integrating community projects that allow students to contribute meaningfully to Fairbanks-area organizations and develop pride in their craftsmanship.
Mr. Daley's leadership and impact have been widely recognized. Dr. Deena Bishop, Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development, praised his exceptional dedication to students pursuing careers in the trades. She noted that his passion for his craft and his community has created lasting, meaningful change. These qualities, combined with his commitment to students, expansion of opportunities in technical education, focus on inclusion, and ability to shape programs that strengthen both the workforce and the community, make Mr. Daley a LifeChanger.
Mr. Daley is an amazing teacher. I only had him for my senior year and he made a big impact, he made me excited to go to his class. He is kind and caring and is one of those teachers everyone wishes they had, and i’m glad to say i did.
Pete Daley is the definition of life-changer. Not limited to my own experiences, Mr. Daley takes the trajectory of the lives of young people and sends them in the direction best for them. For me, that meant coming to high school with high expectations for myself and limitless curiosity. I expected myself to try something very new to myself, and to excel. Mr. Daley took me, a sporty, art and book-loving student who had hardly gotten her hands dirty, and helped me meet the expectations I had set for myself. After welding for Mr. Daley I made it a priority to balance my life with quality time working with my hands. Now, I’m the only student at my law school who can weld, change a tire, and builds her own furniture. Pete Daley changed the trajectory of my life by making my dreams of being independent and capable a bold reality.
Pete is an exceptional teacher who makes a difference in the lives of every student who comes through his classroom. I have always known Pete to have high standards, to be approachable with students and families, and to be fully engaged with his students.
This year, my son (who is a senior in high school) had the good fortune of being enrolled in Mr. Daley’s welding class. Not long into the quarter, I could already see the difference he had made in my son’s life. My son enjoys going to school each morning, he enjoys welding, and my son developed a strong interest in the trades.
He is now exploring post high school opportunities in the trades and has a clearer sense of direction for his future. This is the impact Pete has on all students who walk through his classroom, and he has been doing this for as long as I have known him.
Thank you Pete for all you have contributed to the next generation, your impact will last for generations to come. You are always welcome to come back to YKSD at any time ;)
I first met Mr.Daley when he got me to sign up for his girls who weld program, i was skeptical at first because i thought i would be terrible at it, I learned very quickly that i loved welding and wanted a career in it all because of him and his way of teaching welding. Mr.Daley is super funny and he makes welding fun, he gets super into his rants about welding and that's what i like about him because he is sharing his passion of welding with us high schoolers. I am very happy he is getting these awards because he deserves them for changing the lives of all the people he has and will in the future.
Mr. Pete Daley is the kind of teacher who changes the trajectory of young lives. His influence reaches far beyond the classroom at Hutchison High School in Fairbanks, Alaska – a community where harsh winters, remote geography, and demanding work conditions make the development of capable and resilient young people essential. For many students, Mr. Daley is a cornerstone figure, someone who helps redirect the path of those who might not otherwise have been afforded such opportunity. He makes a profoundly positive impact by creating a nurturing, supportive environment where confidence, purpose, and future careers can take root. His classroom becomes a gateway not only to skill, but to life?changing possibility for students, their families, and the broader community.
Both of my children had Mr. Daley as a welding teacher, and their successes reflect the depth of his impact. One now owns and operates a contracting company – a result of the skill, confidence, and discipline Mr. Daley helped cultivate. Another will graduate in May with her degree in Allied Health and a minor in Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment, a path shaped by educators like Mr. Daley who emphasize that welding is more than technique – it comes with a responsibility to protect people, workplaces, and the environment.
Mr. Daley embodies a powerful philosophy: learn by doing and lead by example. He mentors, guides, and fully invests in his students, helping them develop both competence and character. He adheres to high moral and ethical standards and is an invaluable asset to the students, the school, and the greater Fairbanks community.
Fairbanks relies on tradespeople who can work safely, adapt quickly, and thrive in some of the toughest conditions in the country. With major infrastructure projects on the horizon, teachers like Peter Daley are not just important – they are essential to preparing the next generation of Alaska’s workforce.
Mr. Daley is more than deserving of this award, and his impact will continue to shape students, families, and the community for years to come.
If 10 percent of the population had the same drive as Mr. Daley we would have cities on Mars. Few people are as tireless in their pursuit knowledge and skills as Mr. Daley.
Pete has always been a strong advocate for his students and Career and Technical Education. He always looks to grow professionally and grow his program. Happy to see this nomination.
Mr.Daley is my current welding teacher and has taught me through my 10th and 11th grade. Mr. Daley has taught me so much in welding and is preparing and teaching me to be a great welder. He has been awesome support throughout my schooling. It is very nice to have a teacher so engaged with his students and actually invests his time in all of us. i look forward to having Mr. Daley as my 12th grade teacher as well and even past that through my carrier.
Mr. Daley was an exceptional welding instructor whose impact went far beyond the shop. He was eloquent, knowledgeable, and intentional in teaching us the importance of punctuality, safety, proper PPE, and maintaining clean workstations — lessons that still matter in my healthcare career today.
He fostered a culture of inclusion by taking time with every student, inspecting our work and coaching us individually. He encouraged us to expand our skills by learning AutoCAD and drafting plans.
Because of his support, I was able to participate in the Pipeline Welding Program and compete in SkillsUSA, where students had the opportunity to showcase their welding skills at the state level. His dedication to blending creativity with technical precision helped pave the way for many students to pursue successful careers in welding. Thank you, Mr. Daley, for your continued hard work and dedication to all of your students. -former Hutchison high school student class of 2013
I have known Pete Daley for years, first as a student who taught me the finer points of TIG welding, then as a fellow teacher and advocate for education and students across Alaska. Pete has a matter-of-fact attitude and is supportive of his students.
I first met Mr. Daly 17 years ago when he was a teacher in Minto, Alaska for the Yukon Koyukuk School District. As an educational coach, I spent quite a bit of time in his class and was always impressed by his classroom culture and attention to details. He was always open to try new strategies and techniques which made him a teacher leader in the school district. Since then, we have both moved on to the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District and I'm still impressed with Pete. Pete is beyond engaged when participating in professional learning sessions and is a top notch CTE teacher. The most impressive thing about Pete is his ability to hold students to high standards and still build strong relationships at the same time. Students in Mr. Daly's class are fortunate to have him.
Mr Daley is an amazing, kind, and caring teacher, he was the teacher who made me want to show up to school everyday even when I wasn't in his classes. Mr.Daley has changed more lives than any other teacher I've ever had. Winning this award would not only give him the recognition he rightfully deserves but will also put the small school that Hutchison is on the map. Hutchison is a very small school in a very small community but the teachers and school atmosphere make every student believe they can do big things in life and this will only make their student's opportunities greater than they ever have been before. This award will only give more opportunities to more students wanting to venture into the trades during their high school years, with one of the greatest trades teachers I've had the pleasure of learning from. Mr Daley and Hutchison both deeply deserve this award and the recognition that comes with it.
I went to Hutchison Highschool from freshman year to junior year, and Mr. Daley was by far my favorite teacher. He is super informative and can help you with anything, even things that don't involve welding. Mr. Daley cares about all his students and wants them all to succeed. Mr. Daley was always the teacher I could go and just talk to about random things whenever I needed. He is literally the funniest guy in the world and overall just the most amazing teacher, he truly deserves every reward he has gotten!
Pete is focused, perceptive and thoughtful both as a teacher and a colleague. He has the skills, knowledge and humor to communicate very effectively with a wide range of students; students we’ve had in common often say his explanations of computations and his approach to solving problems help them “get it” better than they ever have before. Pete is leader with a caring and no-nonsense attitude that inspires students and colleagues to show up and give their best.
Pete Daley is a true Life Changer whose impact reaches far beyond his welding classroom and into the future of Alaska’s workforce. A tireless advocate for Career and Technical Education, Pete bridges education, industry, and policy by walking the halls of the state and national capitols to ensure students have access to meaningful, well-supported career pathways. In his classroom, he sets high standards while offering encouragement, teaching not only technical excellence but also professionalism, safety, discipline, and pride in craftsmanship. Students consistently describe leaving his program with qualities that prepare them for both successful careers and meaningful lives.
Pete is well deserving of this award and will use the funds for even greater positive impact on his community.
I have worked with Pete Daley ever since he started working at Hutch 15 years ago. My classroom is right across the hall from the welding shop, so I've have ample time to chat in the hallway between classes. His focus on quality education is exemplary, and it manifests in how he teaches his classes, as well as his concern for the bigger education picture.
In his classroom he focuses on the serious students, trying to train them not only to weld, but to demonstrate job skills as well. I see the poster he has on his door every day: "If your early, you're on time. If you're on time, you're late. If you're late, you're fired." His griping about students who show up to his class not prepared for welding or do nothing in the class are legendary in the school.
As far as the big picture goes, he has been advocating non-stop for reasonable class sizes, as well as adequate funding for district programs. Especially now, with Hutch's High School format possibly changing in the near future, he has stepped up to address the proposed changes, attempting (along with other Hutch teachers) to steer the changes to a model that will work well.
In summary, I believe that Mr. Daley is a good candidate for the Life Changer of the Year award.
Pete Daley is an exceptional CTE educator who works closely with students to build strong welding skills while educating them about high-demand, well-paying career pathways beyond high school. He creates an inclusive learning environment where all students feel supported and engaged, and through programs like Girls Who Weld that he started, and partnerships with industry and community organizations, he helps connects students to real-world experiences and career opportunities in the trades.
During highschool I had the amazing opportunity to attend Mr. Daleys welding class for 3 years. It was by far my favorite class, and I learned a great deal from it about welding and the trades in general, inspiring me to join the trades myself. With help form his recomendation I was able to join the IUOE local 302, as a mechanic. Even though it is a not a job primarily focused on welding, everything Pete taught me has greatly helped me in being able to preform my job, from fabrication to feild repairs on equipment. Without taking this class or his guidance I would not be where I am today, and for that I thank him.
Congratulations Mr. Daily for getting nominated you are the best nominee and you deserve everything coming your way you are an amazing person that has helped lead me to do more with my skills congratulations Mr.Daily it is well earned
Mr. Daley is an amazing weld teacher who sparked my interest in welding and the trades. Thanks to him I was able to join local 375 and get on the fast track to a good career, I would not be were I am today without his teaching and guidance.
Pete has done amazing work changing lives across our whole community of Fairbanks, Alaska. Leading the “Girls who weld” program has made real life impact in our community infrastructure and skills for the students he teaches.
Winning this award would add to this
I Went to Hutchison highschool graduated in 2025 had Peter as my welding teacher for 2 years one of the best teachers I’ve ever had his teaching methods and all around personality can’t be beat.
I have had the privilege of working with Pete Daley since I came to Hutchinson H.S two years ago. I have valued his input with his students. He holds all students to a high standard in and out of the CTE classroom. If a student struggles with Core work, Pete Daley will assure that the student receives support with the Core work and works in conjunction with Core teacher. Students come to my English class and set their work on the tables, proud of their accomplishments in his class. These items are, of course, praised as the students have worked hard. Students are eager to get to work in his class and I have spent time observing Pete in his class so that I could better understand his pedagogy methods. I believe that Pete views the CTE experience of students as a synergetic experience comprised of many parts and that they all fit together to provide the best quality of education. I am proud to work with Pete Daley.
Even though I taught him more than a decade ago—he graduated from Northern Arizona University's Masters in Education Career and Technical Education in May 2015—he remains one of the students who has stayed with me. What really stands out to me is his deep commitment to staying current in his field for the benefit of his students. Pete teaches high school welding in Alaska. He spends time in the summer working in the field conducting inspections to ensure that what he teaches reflects real-world practice rather than outdated theory. He brings that experience back to his classroom and uses the professional connections he builds to create opportunities for his students. Pete is quiet, humble, and soft-spoken, but made a lasting impact on his peers and on me through his professionalism, thoughtfulness, and clear dedication to being the best teacher he could be. I have heard from teachers in Alaska that they feel the same and being this year's Alaska Teacher of the Year recognizes him for this. This distinction is especially meaningful because Career and Technical Education teachers are typically recognized for excellence within our field, not across the broader pool of educators. His recognition reflects his ability to meaningfully change students’ lives through his leadership, influence, and commitment to their futures. Pete's passion has always been centered on his students and their futures, and that commitment exemplifies the spirit of a true LifeChanger.
I worked as a math teacher at Hutchison with Pete Daley for many years. Pete did a great job encouraging his students to take higher-level math, such as Algebra 2, even though many of them would have rather bowed out of the challenge. He stressed the importance of good mathematical reasoning skills to his students and was an incredibly supportive co-worker. He's incredibly deserving of this award!
I was a colleague of Mr. Daley at Hutchison High School for several years. Pete was very passionate about his work and cared deeply that all students succeeded. I always enjoyed bumping into him in the staff lounge where I got to visit with him and learned what was going on in his welding classes. The students at Hutch are very lucky to have such a great teacher.
I had the privilege of The Daley’s tutelage for multiple classes in my senior year of high school, a time when my desire to be active and/or present in school was otherwise quite poor. One thing I sincerely enjoyed that year was the time I got to spend learning welding and drafting from Mr. Daley, whose instruction became one of the highlights of my high school experience. He’s got a uniquely personable approach to teaching and is a master in both his teaching and his craft— but you never feel like he’s looking down on you as he helps you grow. I was able to stay committed in school and learn some valuable skills despite coming in with no skill on either subject, and it was a direct result of Mr. Daley’s continued drive to see all of his students truly succeed. I’ve even still got the silly nameplate I cut in Welding, and I’m still definitely going to mount it someday!
I had Mr. Daley as an instructor for two years and i absolutely loved his class and I learned a lot from it. I also discovered the career i wanted to do in his class and I love welding, thanks to him
I have had the privilege of working with Pete in multiple capacities over the last decade. His dedication to his teaching career is beyond admirable. His time working for me on Trans-Alaska Pipeline, Pete was one of my best employees as a welding inspector. Respected for his technical expertise, work ethic, and integrity, he always kept his teaching career on the forefront of his mind. Common discussion between us were centered around how to involve his students in more real world applications, and trying to get the most out of his time with these developing youths. Knowing that he has the ability to work and excel in another industry while making significantly more money but chooses the path to be milder of young minds is inspiring.
One of the specific reasons that I went to Hutchison for school was because my older sister went, and talked about how great the welding program was. I went to Hutchison and took the necessary classes to get into the welding program. Pete Daley was amazing at guiding myself and other students be the best version of themselves, and helping them start and achieve amazing careers.
I was a Library Assistant at Hutchison High School, and had the privilege of working with Pete Daley.
Not only is Pete an excellent instructor, but an amazingly knowledgeable man. His students thought highly of him and he assisted many of them into the careers they have today.
I had three sons in scouts, at the time, he offered to take time out of his day to help them earn the welding merit badge. He has changed many lives, and I am grateful to see him be acknowledged for his continuous contributions to the community of Fairbanks, Alaska.
Keep it up, Pete, you bring out the greatness in your students.
I've had the pleasure of knowing Pete for the last 14 years. Being an Automotive Technology Professor myself, I know the routine of his daily work. Pete is the "standard of measure" when it comes to being a professional trades instructor in welding. I have witnessed him work with students first hand, and he simply does an amazing job with his students. Great job Pete!!
Mr. Daley is a great teacher because of his ability to make me excited to come into the shop and classroom. He's always teaching students new things that build plenty of love and passion for welding. Not only that, but I always see him make an effort to check in on every single student to make sure that they feel seen and heard. The knowledge, environment, and encouragement he provides ensures that everyone that enters his class has the access to pursue a career in welding.
I worked with Pete Daley during my time as a special education teacher at Hutchison High School, and understand, firsthand, the impact he has on students. Many students who struggle with learning disabilities find they excel with hands-on tasks. This realization, and the profound confidence boost that it provides, is absolutely life-changing for many students. Mr. Daley understands this and provides opportunities to students that they may not otherwise have. He provides the technical foundation, the career connections, the mentoring support, and through it all, helps students believe in themselves. I cannot overstate how essential his program and his personal guidance have been in so many students' lives. Students will light up, as if a spark ignites in their soul, when they discover an aptitude and lifepath forward to something they may not have otherwise found. Such an experience can make an enormous difference in whether a student, especially one with learning needs, graduates from high school. Mr. Daley opens doors to all students by fostering professional skills and readiness to succeed in the industry, while nurturing the whole student, despite challenges or disability. Our school district and community are so lucky to have him!
Pete Daley is a wonderful Life Changer!! He has helped so many students in our school district, as well as community members continue to grown. Getting the Girls Who Weld program up and running is a wonderful accomplishment for Pete!
One incident that I remember about meeting Pete was in his welding classroom. He was welcoming to having visitors in his shop. He was open to sharing how things were going and showed us all around. He was willing to answer questions about the education climate in Fairbanks. He not only helps students, but is also active in his union, the Fairbanks Education Association. His award as Teacher of the Year was very well deserved. He works behind the scenes to ensure that his fellow educators are well taken care of.
Life Changer of the Year is the perfect award for Pete Daley!!
Mr. Peter Daley is truly a tremendous educator who goes above and beyond for his students every single day. He works intentionally with district programs to ensure that no student is overlooked or unseen, advocating for those who need support and opportunity the most. Through his meaningful relationships with students, he helps them develop a genuine sense of pride and accomplishment.
Mr. Daley has built a school culture that is far more than a shop—it is a home away from home for many of his students. Every student is treated with respect and equity, and his high expectations are viewed not as obstacles, but as challenges students are eager to rise to. They consistently push themselves to exceed his expectations because they know he believes in them. His impact reaches well beyond academics and will stay with his students long after they leave his classroom.
I had the pleasure of taking welding classes with Mr. Daley 3 of my 4 years at Hutch, and honestly taking his classes was my favorite thing about going to Hutch. He didn’t just teach us about welding, he also taught us about work ethic, timeliness, and responsibility. He was approachable and easy to talk to, and one of my favorite teachers I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. His dedication to his students and their learning environment is something I deeply admire, and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to get to know him during my time at Hutch.
Having worked with Pete Daley in several facets of educational and workforce development, I have witnessed firsthand how Mr. Daley transforms the classroom into a high-speed engine for career readiness. He does not simply teach welding; he builds the vital pipeline that connects high school students to rewarding, high-demand careers in the skilled construction trades.
Pete Daley brings an unparalleled work ethic into the classroom, setting a standard that mirrors the rigor of the industrial field. He possesses the rare ability to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and tangible outcomes. By utilizing his extensive field experience, he provides students with real-world problem-solving techniques and "on-the-job" examples. This approach ensures that students don't just learn the how of welding—they deeply understand the why as well. This connection to the "real world" gives his students a sense of purpose and a clear vision of their professional future long before they graduate.
Furthermore, he has been intentional and proactive in creating a pipeline for women in the trades. He has spent considerable time researching and curating his teaching methods to ensure optimal student success for underrepresented populations. By fostering an inclusive environment where every student, regardless of background, is held to the highest standard of excellence, he is effectively changing the face of the local workforce.
In a time when skilled trades are in critical demand, Pete Daley is doing more than filling a labor gap; he is changing lives by providing students with the tools for success and professional pride. His dedication to his students’ long-term success is the hallmark of a true Life Changer.
I am consistently inspired by his commitment to the construction trades and his students. I am eager to see the continued impact he will have on our community, and I recommend him for this honor without reservation.
Pete Daley is an outstanding teacher in our district who consistently goes above and beyond for his students. He truly embodies what it means to inspire, empower, and support young people. His students will remember him well into adulthood and talk about years later, recognizing the role he played in building their confidence, work ethic, and career paths—and as you can see from other comments, students are commenting on exactly these things. Pete is one of the most impactful teachers I have had the pleasure of working with and getting to know.
I met mr Daley like 3 weeks before school ended last year because I knew I didn't want to do anything with Healthcare. He said I could weld if my friend watched me and showed me so I did weld that Day that's when I had a passion for welding. He's the reason I thought about going to UAF for college. Because I never thought about it until now. my dad and mom was so happy I got in even though I never thought about it like going to college. I'm very excited to follow my career of welding and make that moneyyyyyyy. All thanks to Mr Daley for letting me weld that Day :D
Pete Daley was an exceptional teacher very Hands-On we went out and survival class to go set traps and dig a glue stay overnight welding a handful of projects in the shop class and he was one of the most outstanding teachers I have ever had
I am a current student of Mr.Daleys and it truly is such a privilege to have him as my teacher, Mr. Daley has such good patience with us students. Alongside the fact Mr. Daley always goes out of his way to have a conversation with us. He always stands at the door with a big smile and says "how's it going" It always makes my day. Mr. Daley has helped guide me on idea's of what I want to do when I get out of highschool. Mr.Daley deserves this award because he's one of the most headstrong, positive and patient teachers I have ever met.
This is my first year in welding and this class has been so eye opening for me. Having Mr.Daley as my teacher has been so great, he always welcomes every student with a warming smile and a "hey how's it going?". It is no surprise to me on how he won the best teacher award, there is no one as more deserving as him. He is a very motivated person and seeing all of his accomplishments makes me wanna strive to be the best version of myself. Finally, Mr.Daley is so deserving of every award he's ever gotten and I can't wait to see more of his future accomplishes.
To whom it may concern. I was Pete’s art teacher all through middle and high school. Pete was always on time, kind and friendly to all around him. He was an excellent student and hard worker. I can absolutely support Pete for this award.
What I appreciate most about Pete is his passion and drive to bring his best to his students each and every day. This drive has been recognized at the state and national level, but most importantly his students experience it everyday.
I had the privilege of working with Mr. Pete Daley for 8 years in rural Alaska (YKSD), where his dedication to students and his craft was evident every single day. Pete brings an uncommon blend of technical expertise, humility, and genuine care for young people, qualities that have shaped countless students’ lives across his 23 year career. His ability to build strong, industry aligned CTE programs—while also instilling work ethic, safety, and confidence—sets him apart as an educator who prepares students for both employment and adulthood. Even in the most remote settings, Pete created opportunities, opened doors, and inspired students who might never have imagined themselves in the skilled trades. His leadership, innovation, and unwavering commitment to students make him exceptionally deserving of this recognition!
I am a current welding student of Mr. Daley and he has helped me a great deal when deciding what i want to do for a career. While i myself am not going into welding, Mr. Daley has given me many resources to find what i want to do in life, from Women In the Trades meetups, to an engineering camp i've enjoyed being able to explore my career options with him. In the welding shop I am also succeeding and am becoming an accomplished welder. Ive been able to help fix my dads truck hitch and i'm also a certified welder now thanks to Mr. Daley's instruction. When i came into his class i had absolutely zero knowledge about anything when it comes to welding, but now i can torch weld, torch cut, wire feed, and stick weld all with proficiency and excellence. Mr. Daley is a Life Changer, and has inspired me to pursue my career in engineering with enthusiasm and a different view on life. Im sure that all the other students in any of his welding classes could say the same.
Pete Daley is the most accomplished and highly “decorated” CTE teacher in the state of Alaska. By this I mean, he has pushed himself to become an expert in the welding industry by earning many advanced welding and welding inspector certifications. In addition, he also works as a welding inspector in order to further develop his expertise and knowledge of the welding industry. Pete has combined this with his years of experience as a CTE teacher to develop the best welding program in Alaska. His CTE program is the beginning of an educational pipeline that continues into union apprenticeships, post-secondary training opportunities and welding careers that are in high demand because of the oil and mining industries that drive Alaska’s economy. Pete knows exactly what the industry expects and he makes sure that his students are prepared for the challenge by providing them with professional level equipment and instruction. Pete Daley is a Life Changer... turning students into the next generation of skilled workers that our state needs.
PETER DALEY
I came to know Peter as his 6th grade teacher at King Elementary in Deer River. Minnesota. Peter was the type of student that one remembers long after retirement.
He was intelligent, kind, engaging and challenging. I say challenging because of his inquisitiveness which was ever seeking best answers and truth. I lay claim to one gray hair which was the result of being challenged to be the best teacher I could be on his behalf. I felt my lessons had more depth and were more informed because I knew Peter would catch misinformation.
Peter could relate to wide ranges of people and was quite comfortable in the presence of adults. As he related to adults, I saw that he was very respectful to them. These characteristics carried over to classmates. He was willing to stay in the classroom at noon to assist students who were having difficulties with their lessons. As they worked together, I often heard them laughing. Laughter is such a healing balm in times of difficulty such as not understanding or feeling like one is not capable. Peter’s dry sense of humor was quite contagious but never got out of hand. That very sense of humor helped students release tensions that might have resulted in some over reactions in the classroom. I found that I could depend on Peter to be a catalyst and helper in the classroom. He was always on time and always willing to do the next thing.
All in all, Peter was a memorable student. I am glad to have known him then and am very pleased to see him being recognized for his many successes. He has received many letters of commendation for different honors I noticed that the many comments about him came from very diverse groups..staff, students, parents, colleagues. These comments were often about Peter’s humanity telling what a difference he had made in their lives. That is, in itself, the primary reason he should be awarded this honor. He lives in peoples’ hearts.
Edward Olson
I had Mr.Daley as my welding teacher at hutch back in 2014/2015. He got me to really enjoy welding and inspired me to join the Local 375 and helped me apply. Ive now been a Journeyman pipefitter for over 5 years and make a great living doing good honest work. Through the union Ive met generations of past students of Mr.Daley's and every single one has nothing but praise for him. If anyone deserves this award it's him.
Mr. Daley was my welding instructor at Hutchison High school in 2016!!! He taught me how to weld stick and wire feed and how to use an oxyacetylene torch! I welded a bench made from my truck tailgate that I rolled in highschool. I still have that bench and it is our family firepit bench! Mr. Daley is one of the most knowledgeable and safe instructors when it comes to welding. Not only does he help students learn but he helps set them up for a career in the trades. He taught me how to weld even though I had never even seen a welding rod before in my life! His class is one of the most educational and memorable classes I have taken even going through four years of college after Hutch. I was Hutch class of 2016 and his legacy still lives on!
Mr Dayley is a great asset to our community. He continually teaches each class that comes through thoroughly and with a passion for welding and improving his students. I took Mr Dayley’s class back in 2018 and the skills I learned in his class, were a great asset in my résumé to launch me into my career I have now!
I have watched Pete dedicate himself to students of all ability level and skill levels in an effort to support their interest in the trades and specifically in welding. His programs began small - sometimes with only a handful of students but very soon, those numbers in classrooms and in the summer program for girls, increased and his classes are full. Pete is a champion for students, supporting them in whatever they may be interested in pursuing. He focuses on empowering students to find a pathway that works for them, especially the non-traditional path in school and in the work force, and because of that, Pete makes a tremendous impact on the youth he interacts with daily. Pete is an outstanding educator, he is a partner with other educators, he embraces new ideas and finds ways to explore opening doors for students that might otherwise be closed. His efforts last long beyond classroom instruction - he makes an impact for life.
Where do I start with Pete Daley.. He was my welding instructor at Hutchinson highschool for 3 years and is the reason I joined the union. Daley is the type of guy who is willing to go above and beyond to help his students at school and after school. He has started and helped with numerous programs for students after school that will only benefit them in the future as they have for me. After graduation if the students are lucky enough they might see Pete inspecting their welds on the job in the summer months. Pete Daley deserves the lifechanger award above everyone else in my opinion.
Mr. Daley was my welding instructor for three years. I went to the pipe welding academy, and when it came time to graduate high school, he encouraged me and helped me apply to the Local 375 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union apprenticeship. I got in, and journeyed out in 2021. Without Mr. Daley's excellent teaching and encouragement, I probably would have gone down a completely different path, and I'm happy that I had him as a teacher.
I had the privilege of working alongside Pete during my time as a school nurse at Hutchison High School, and I can say without hesitation that he is one of the most influential teachers I encountered in my 12 years with the FNSBSD. He inspired countless students, but what impressed me most was how many female students felt safe and encouraged to try something completely new in taking his welding class. He supported their curiosity, built their confidence, and created an environment where all students could thrive. I was even a grateful recipient of some of the incredible pieces his students created. The impact he had on his students, both in skill and self-belief, was truly remarkable. Thank you for all you do Pete!
Pete Daley and I were coworkers for 4 years. As the Library Assistant, I had the privilege of signing out all textbooks to all of our students. In that time, I only heard welding students’ excitement as they described Mr.Daley’s class. They would also proudly show me photos of their welding creations. Since leaving Hutchison HS, I have encountered many of our students who have been accepted into the welders union and doing quite well.
Pete has always been accessible to not only his students but colleagues as well. I was not surprised when I realized that he also conducts welding classes for adult students in the evenings.
Pete Daley’s contributions of his time and knowledge have been invaluable to our school district and community at large. Pete, you deserve this honor. You rock!
Pete played a huge role in my ability to get the career I started through Local 375 plumbers and pipefitters. I worked my way through their apprenticeship and became a Welder/Fitter.
The skills Pete taught me and the after school welding program he had started is a huge reason I was able to get where I did.
I now work as a mechanical technician on the pipeline and a lot of the skills Pete had taught me are what helped me get to where I am today. Pete puts a lot of effort into helping his students thrive and succeed even after they graduate.
Mr. Daley was a monumental part of me getting into the career that I am in today. He encourages every student he has to succeed in the best way that suites them. He only encourages success to everyone that he meets and is a great contributor to the construction field of work in Alaska and I cannot think of a better person that represents growth and opportunity in any apprenticeship that’s available.
Mr Dailey was my welding teacher for 3 out of my 4 years at hutch, being able to use the welding shop was one of the highlights of my high school career. Mr Dailey was always there if u had a question about anything in the shop, from actual welding advice to fixing anything broken in the shop. I know he taught in the villages years back, with that type of experience he can accommodate to any classroom if it’s the freshly 15 and 16 year old sophomores or if it’s a girls welding camp he is always a great figure that inspires and promotes learning in his classroom
I graduated from Hutch class of 2017 and had the privilege of having Mr. Daley as my welding teacher for 2 years. His ability to engage students and teach us real life skills has set myself and many others up for success in the trades. His dedication to his students and his craft speaks for itself through the lives of the many students he positively impacted. Hutch, Fairbanks, and trades in general are lucky to Have Mr. Daley!
I had the opportunity to take 2 years of welding instructed by Pete. He is extremely knowledgable, articulate in his teaching, and dedicated to his trade. He teaches in such a way that if you want a career in welding, he will do everything in his power to make sure you are equipped for the industry, and can be handed a diploma one day, and starting your career the next. While attending Hutchison, I recall students that graduated in years prior stopping in during or after class to talk, catch up, and thank him for helping them to start a career right out of high school. I myself have done the same thing. Though I am now a mechanic by trade, the skillset that Pete equipped me with has helped me on countless fabrication and repair jobs that I would have otherwise been clueless about. Words cannot begin to describe the lives he has changed, mine included. Hundreds- if not thousands of students have been positively impacted by his teachings in welding, life, family, career, etc. Just ask any student that took his class. I'm sure they would be happy to tell you about their time in Mr. Daley's welding class.
I have known and worked with Pete as a fellow educator for over 15 years. Pete's down to earth style, approachability and professionalism in teaching make him an effective educator and wonderful collaborative colleague. Pete always prioritizes the well-being and learning of students over all else. He brings strength and dignity to all of the students in his classes, making room for all, encouraging new learners, and helping more advanced learners achieve their goals.
Pete makes great efforts to advocate for public education and high quality instruction in the trades. I have met Pete often outside of the public school setting, whether it is at a public event to advocate for students and schools, or on an airplane returning from a personal visit to teach another welding instructor what he knows, Pete lives his values and passion for helping students. Pete is a life changer to all who he encounters.
Here’s a polished comment you can post—personal, heartfelt, and still honoring the scope of his impact:
Mr. Daley was my welding instructor in 2014–2015, and while I wasn’t searching for a career in welding, I was searching for a creative outlet. What I found instead was a teacher who saw potential, led with intention, and taught me a skill and a trade that I’ve carried with me my entire life.
He didn’t just teach us how to weld — he taught work ethic, safety, responsibility, and confidence. Those lessons extended far beyond the welding booth and shaped how I show up in every chapter that followed.
Watching the impact he’s had over his 23-year career — from building industry-connected programs, launching the pipe welding academy, creating Girls Who Weld, and opening doors for students who may not have seen themselves in the trades — makes this recognition feel incredibly earned.
Mr. Daley has changed lives, strengthened our workforce, and poured into this community with intention and heart. I’m so proud to see him named the 2025–2026 Alaska Teacher of the Year. A true LifeChanger in every sense of the word.
Mr. Daley Was my welding teacher at Hutchison high school I took his class twice he knew I wasn’t really interested in welding for a career
He asked me what I’m interested in and I told him that I was interested in almost everything that has to do with electricity and he told me I might want to look into going to college as an electrical engineer and even told about an event coming up at our local college UAF I went there and got a lot of inspiration and advice
I ended up joining the IBEW as an apprentice electrician a year after I graduated in 2024
I ran into him at a store a while ago and told him about the little welding station me and my dad made in our garage and asked him for some welding advice he still treated me like I was still one of his students and gave me some great advice
I’m very happy to hear that he won this award
And I’m great-full for him and all the teachers at Hutchison high school
Mr Daley was an awesome teacher. He helped me set up pathways to meaningful future employment. I looked forward to going to his class every day. He helped me build confidence, and pushed me to not only be a better welder, but to be successful in my adult life.
Being a student in Mr. Daley’s welding class has had a huge impact on my confidence and work ethic. He holds every student to high standards and expects professionalism, safety, and pride in our work every day. Mr. Daley goes beyond teaching technical welding skills. He teaches work ethic, responsibility, and what it really means to be prepared for a career in the trades. Through hands on training, he made learning feel fun and purposeful. Because of his support and belief in his students, many high school graduates are now prepared for jobs in the trades.
Mr.Daley is an amazing teacher he is very kind, patient, and understanding educator. He helped educate and grow myself and many of my peers and I honestly hope he will get the chance to enrich my own children's lives with his never ending thirst for knowledge and his gift the share it.
Mr.Daley is one of the best not only welders but also teachers as well with the optimism and encouragement he brought to class everyday. When I was there he made me want to get better and better, with the teachings he brought me I wasn’t only able to be able to build things that helped myself after school but also I have gotten the opportunity to make a career out of it and I can give all the credit to him. When I look back to school the first thing that comes to mind is not only how much fun I had in the class but also how much he wanted to see every student succeed and showing each one individually just how they can do that I could not have asked for a better teacher.
I was very checked out senior year of highschool, if it wasn’t for Mr.Daleys class, rules and demeanor I likely would have stopped showing up. All I wanted to do was weld but he wouldn’t let us if our other grades were slipping. Mr. Daley also slapped down applications for the 375 union in front of us towards the end of the year, because of the skills he passed on and caring when other teachers didn’t I got a job with the union right out of highschool. I quit after 2 years for personal reasons but I’m in an adjacent field of work now and enjoy what I do. Mr. Daley showed up when I stopped showing up for myself, he’s the reason I’m successful today.
Mr. Daley’s classes far exceeded the instruction of welding and fabrication. He taught his classes at a personal level and made sure to connect with students no matter their current walk of life. I still remember some of Mr. Daley’s unique stories and appreciate the character building and genuine compassion he brought to instruction. Strangely, tables turn, and I have found myself on the instructor side of the classroom. Luckily, I had a few impactful role models that provide direction to conduct myself in a teaching environment. Pete Daley had one of those guiding impacts, and his dedication to lifelong learning should be a model for us all.
Pete Daley is a super respected educator; first in the Yukon-Koyukuk School District and then at Hutchison High School. He has conducted himself with the utmost professionalism and dedication to his students throughout his career. I worked alongside Pete in rural Alaska with YKSD. He was regarded and respected by his students, their parents and community as well as the district. He gave 110 percent, working outside regular house and using innovative strategies and concepts that connected and resonated with his students. He is a most deserving professional for a life changer award!!!!
Mr. Daley is a teacher, mentor and professional who is admired by his students, peers, and the greater community. In the small economy that is Alaska, Mr. Daley has made a significant imprint by training an entire generation of welders, many of whom we rely on to keep oil flowing in the pipeline, power plants running all winter, etc. Pete does not just teach a skill, he teaches his students to think, and to become lifelong learners. He exemplifies this by always striving to improve and learn new things himself, and sharing new ideas with his students and coworkers.
I think Mr daleys class is an amazing class and I think that the things that I have learned in this class will be used for a long time. I have learned how to TIG weld and I have gotten very good at it, I have used the skill for a couple of personal projects like making a snowmachine bumper and doing a tunnel cut as well. I think Mr Daley is an amazing teacher and a nice person as well. I don't think I would have had the same skills I would have today with out having him for this class.
my time at hutch with Mr.Daley has been great he is very good teacher and teaches really well. I am currently in my first year welding class and Mr.Daley has helped me alot and teaches me very well I wouldn't be where i am now if it wasn't for Mr.Daley.
My time at hutch so far has been a very neat and very educating experience for school being able to take a welding class and thats a school class really excited me and then having a great teacher who can show you and teach you the ways around a machine and how to make a money making weld, and always being someone you can chat it up with!
I was a participant in the girls summer welding class and I'm currently one of his first year students. The girls welding program not only helped me further my welding skills but gave me the confidence and credentials to start working at a local welding shop. Even during his day to day classes Mr. Daley is always pushing me to try new ways to weld and helping me along the way when I'm completely clueless. Mr. Daley is not only a good teacher but an amazing person to be around he's always got some interesting but relevant thing to share during class making it one of my favorite class to be in during the droll of a normal school day.
I am a junior here at Hutchison High School, I am a second year student mr Daley has helped me so much and does so much to help everyone he can. He has taught me so much about welding and just life in general. he is always doing something to help his student and the people around him. My welding class with Mr Daley is my favorite class because of all the cool things he shows his student and all the great life advice he give people.
I've worked with Pete Daley for eleven years, and I have thanked my lucky stars for all of them. With his skill set, he could very easily triple his salary by not being a teacher, but he chooses meaning over money, impact over income, and purpose over a paycheck every time. He chooses to do the much harder and less rewarded work of being a teacher. I appreciate how well-read he is and how much he goes in search of new thinking to guide how he tackles new problems. We need more CTE teachers like Pete, and I hope that his being the Alaska Teacher of the Year will shine a light on how underpaid our best and most important teachers are compared to their skills and prospects -- and how impossible it really is to claim to be pro-industry without being fiercely pro-education as well.
Mr. Daley is one of the most dedicated as well as knowledgeable individuals I've ever have met. Congratulations on your nomination!
Man, Mr Daley's class has always been a blast! I'm currently a second year student in his class, and ever since day one he's always known how to rope you in and get your attention, he's very motivational and encouraging on a whole different level to me. I could't more proud to say he's my welding instructor, I wouldn't have it any other way, he's helped me aim high in the career I want to go in. But not only helped me, but has helped countless amount of students figure out the path to take to be successful, I couldn't be happier to pass on all of his teachings he passed onto me.
I'm a current student at hutch and Mr.Daley shows great dedication to his students showing us how to properly operate the equipment and takes his time with his students to teach them good technique.
I am a student that participated in Mr.Daley's Girls who Weld program summer of 2025. I participated in the program to learn more about the trades and specifically welding. This summer program helped me feel more comfortable in a male dominated field as a women and made me grow as a person. He helped me build character and confidence in my welds. He is an excellent teacher for this class and has made me excel in more than just the his welding classes. He makes sure you are doing well in your other classes in school and helps you understand anything that is holding you back, in his class or another. I am very honored to have had him as a teacher during the summer program and this school year.
Mr. Daley has significantly impacted my life in the past two years in many ways. From jokes in the classroom to hands on welding he has taught me a lot of important skills and is a great welding teacher. When I was first in Mr. Daleys class and he told the class that he wakes up at 3 am I thought that was a little crazy, but the more you hang out around him the more you understand that he gets up at 3 am. He wakes up so early so that he is ready for work and ready to teach. He is the best welder that I have ever met and can help explain things to you well in a way that you will understand, and he is also a really nice guy.
From expanding access to the trades to building strong industry pathways, Pete’s leadership has inspired many. It takes special effort to grow a program, and fight against current trends opposing public education at the same time. I’m proud to work alongside such an excellent educator.
Pete’s dedication, commitment, and consistent high-quality work have made a significant impact on the culture of our school and in the self-confidence of our students. He is such an amazing mentor and leader. His guidance has been invaluable in launching a generation of students armed with self-reliance, talent and skill.
Mr. Daley, teaches us how to operate different machines safely and shows us techniques to make better and cooler stuff. were allowed to work on our own projects and we're able to make amazing art projects using the workshop and tools provided. I love his class because he never limits us and lets us use our imagination to build whatever we can think of.
I am a junior here at Hutchison High School and have been in welding since my sophomore year. Mr. Daley has been a huge impact and help in my time here at Hutchison. He has helped me learn to be a better welder, student and person. He has selflessly helped me with problems both in and out of the shop and never fails to make me smile. Mr. Daley is very knowledgeable and is always happy to pass on and share all of his experience. I am forever grateful for all the Mr. Daley has offered and given me. If anyone deserves this award it is Mr. Daley.
I am a current student in Mr. Daleys welding class. Mr. Daley has been such an amazing teacher at Hutch, even before I was in his class. He helped me get started with welding in the girls who weld program over the summer, he is a fantastic teacher and that whole program was so educational and an amazing experience. He has really helped me grow and become more confident in my abilities. Mr Daley is amazing at treating each student individually, helping each with their interests and answering questions. He teaches much more than just welding, sharing about different career paths and opportunities and how to succeed in the workplace. He has helped me and so many other students here in so many ways.
I'm a junior student at hutch that has taken Mr. Daley's class every year his teaching is one of the best for welding he is always their to help even if he is running all over the place to help a student out. He has taught me so much I learn all that I can from him, he has done a lot for me and I thank him for that.
I am currently a student with Mr. Daily I have been one of his students for 3 years now. He is a great welding teacher. Mr. Daley is very knowledgeable about welding and many other things. He takes time to explain things clearly and makes sure everyone understands and is always willing to help when someone needs it. He motivates his students to take pride in there work and improve their skills. Mr. Daily is a stand up guy he truly is an amazing teacher.
I have worked with Pete Daley for six years at Hutchison. He has been a role model for many of our students; not just as a teacher but as a respected member of a trade. He challenges his students to be professional, and to be lifelong learners. Pete holds the Girls Who Weld summer program yearly that empowers young women with the skills and confidence to join a trade. He was awarded the 2025–2026 Alaska Teacher of the Year, which shows his dedication and the appreciation his students - past and present - hold for him. Pete is a Life Changer for Hutch and our community.
I got to work with Pete Daley and the girls and welding program for when it first started and just from that first class, he impacted many women in the trades getting them started. I owe a lot of my career to him, and I’m so thankful that he keeps it going. He deserves every award given, and every girl in that class and student of his would agree with me.
I am a student with Mr. Daley currently, I moved to Hutchison as a junior in highschool and have been here for junior and now my senior year. My biggest reason for switching schools was to participate in the welding program, at that time I didn't know who the teacher was and just how amazing Mr. Daley really is. I learned this shortly after meeting him, he is one of the most dedicated and committed teachers I have had the opportunity to work with in my education. I will be missing our classes after I graduate and hope to see him again at some point in my career.
Mr. Daley is the best teacher I have had at Hutch. He is very knowledgeable and is willing to help me anytime I ask. I have had him as a welding instructor for the past three years. He has taught me so much about welding and the trades in general. He has made me want to make welding a career after high school.
Mr. Daley has been a big help in not only teaching me how to weld, but also improving and getting me job place ready. I took welding because I heard it was a good chance to test the waters and I am grateful for the chance to have Mr. Daley as my instructor. He sees your opportunities and knows when a student is really serious about pursuing welding. He is ready to offer the help and advice needed to elevate a student from just a welding class to one that's ready for a chance at looking into the workplace/welding career.
Mr. Daley treats every one of his students with respect and interest, he remembers important and small details to make you feel welcome and valuable as well as being a superb teacher and welder. Mr. Daley's calm and clear instructions and thoughtful ways of teaching have entirely transformed my weling for the better and taught me important life and employability lessons.
Mr Daley has been a big help in learning how to weld and helping me get set on taking classes in the process tech field. he introduced me to the intro class for process tech and helping is me as well as others get a internship up in prudo bay.
I have had the privilege to work with Pete Daley doing pipeline maintenance for Alyeska. I am a Local 375 Welder / Pipefitter and Pete works with us for TEAM as a welding inspector when he’s not teaching at Hutchinson. It’s clear to see how passionate he is about being an instructor and how serious he is about influencing young men and women to use the skill of welding to open the door to a career in the trades.
Mr. Daley is a great teacher who loves to see his students succeed and pushes to help kids as much as he can, he is very wise and knowledgeable it was always a pleasure to be in his class
I first met Pete while working as a welder on the Trans Alaskan Pipeline. He was working the summer season as a welding inspector. He was an absolute pleasure to work with and I enjoyed his willingness to share his knowledge and experience. After meeting Pete he invited me to come see and meet with his girls welding class. It was an opportunity for me to share my experience going through the apprenticeship for Local 375 plumbers and Union and working as a welder out of the hall with his class. During my visit I was thoroughly impressed by what Mr. Daley is doing for these girls. He is not only exposing them to a potential career but he’s also teaching them about the things that will make them successful both in the trades and in any career. The importance of work ethic, timeliness, honesty and responsibility. Having come from a place where the opportunity to be introduced to a trade was not available to me before finishing high school I have a huge appreciation for the value of what he’s doing. It truly has the potential to be life-changing for some kids who will find their passion and build a life out of the skills and lessons that Mr. Daley is teaching.
As the CTE director for both school districts where Pete has work I know Pete as both an amazing teacher and person. As an Alaskan educator, Pete is to complete package. In Minto, he was one of the longest term teachers, and began to hone his shop teaching skills. Transitioning to town and to Hutchison Career Center he excelled. Pete never misses an opportunity improved his skills, but more importantly, he is able to share his skills with his students. A whole generation of students have been impacted by Pete.
Mr Daley and his welding classes were the highlight of my time in high school. His instruction and knowledge led me to a lifelong career in the trades after graduation. I couldn’t be more appreciative of his patience and passion in his teaching. I feel he is more than worthy of this award and any awards in the future as he deserves all the recognition and appreciation he can get.
Mr Daley’s was such a positive life changer for my son and many of his friends. They came out of his program with life skills, confidence, and motivation. Fairbanks is so fortunate to have such an outstanding person in the school district.
Life has afforded me the opportunity to meet Pete at the beginning of his welding career. At that time, I was a Welding Instructor, and I had the privilege of watching Pete grow from a dedicated welding student into a committed welding instructor. From the beginning, Pete demonstrated a strong drive and passion for learning the welding trade. He consistently showed focus and determination, always looking for ways to sharpening his techniques that improved his welding skills. In addition, he concentrated on obtaining a deep understanding of safety standards and welding principles. Pete always showed willingness as well as patience when assisting others, and would not hesitate to go above and beyond the call of duty. He continuously demonstrates that he cares about the success of his students, making him a very effective instructor. Pete is truly an asset to the Welding Program and to the community.
Pete was an unforgettable student of mine. His cheerful, comic personality added plenty of vitality to the classroom. I love that he now a teacher himself! I know he's teaching many young men and women very practical skills that will help them find success in life. All of us at Deer River High School in northern Minnesota are proud of Pete!
Peter is a most amazing teacher and inspires many to break the mold and simply be better.
Mr. Daley taught me the fundamentals of welding in 2021, during the challenging period of COVID, when hands-on learning was especially difficult. Despite these obstacles, he remained encouraging and innovative, adapting his teaching methods to ensure both safety and meaningful instruction. I vividly remember the pride he showed when I passed my first weld test. He bent the pieces of metal I had welded together to see if the weld would hold—and it did. That moment was deeply profound for me, as it affirmed not only my skill, but the confidence and dedication he instilled in his students.
Mr Pete Daley was the best teacher I had the privilege to hire in my 31 years as a supervisor. Pete was a real team player. He built a great relationship with the other staff members, students, and village community. He truly dedicated his time to the students and was a wonderful role model for the students. I was always amazed how he could find materials to put together meaningful projects in his wood and metal classes. He was very creative. I would agree with all of you who posted to see him as I do. He is truly a professional educator and a great human being. Pete even had a profound influence on me as his principal and as a friend.
Pete at this point I stopped writing for over two hours to read each post directed to you. I hope you didnt mind. I knew you would be successful, but you have risen above and beyond. I would thank Dr. Deena Bishop, commissioner of Alaska Dept of Education, for recognizing Pete for his service to the students of Alaska. I am proud of you Pete, Your Friend Principal Ray Carey
What an honor to have known Peter as a teenager and young adult! He is an excellent person and has always led by example. I was a substitute teacher at Deer River High School when Pete was in school here. He was respected by his peers and led by quiet example. When Pete would walk into the classroom, I knew that we could accomplish the day's work because he would show the other students how to achieve it.
Pete was a leader in our church also where his commitment to people was strong. He had the support of his family and the congregation and is still remembered fondly even after being gone from our community for many years.
Congratulations to you, Pete, and to your students who are fortunate to experience your instruction in welding and in life!
I went to elementary and high school with Peter. Even after many years, his character is easy to remember. In high school, he was genuinely kind, approachable, and inclusive. He treated everyone with respect and had a way of making people feel seen and welcome.
That kind of consistency speaks volumes. This award is a fitting recognition of not just what he’s done, but who he is. Good luck!
Pete,
What a privilege to be taught by you. Thank you for being the catalyst to my career. When I first stepped into your high school classroom I didn't know anything about welding and I didn't know how far it would take me, and you were at the beginning of it all. More than 10 years later and the opportunities that have branched out from it, I realize now that through all the places I went, you were the standard for how I should be treated. You taught me more than welding, you taught me how to be treated with dignity. You convinced me that I "belonged at the table," all 110lbs of me. What a difference you have made in my life by giving me the skills to build a successful career to be passionate about. More than that, you invited me to participate in this important work you have dedicated your life to. You started the "Girls Who Weld" summer program and invited me to share my real world experiences to encourage the next generation of young welders entering the workforce. What an incredible gift to see these girls being empowered to start their adult lives with a rewarding career. Like many of them, I would not have seen myself in skilled trades without you. Without a dad growing up I would not have otherwise had someone to teach me technical skills and the confidence necessary to use them if not for you. All hope is for you receiving this award. If only I could write a comment that would guarantee this recognition for you it still would not equal the value that has compounded in my life because of you.
I have had the pleasure of working with Pete for past 15 years at Hutchison High School. During this time, I have come to know him as an exceptional educator and professional. A fun fact we share is that we were both born and raised in the same small town in Minnesota.
Pete takes great pride in teaching the skilled trade of welding and is deeply dedicated to his students’ success. Over the years, I have spoken with many students who expressed how much they value and enjoy Pete’s welding classes. I can confidently state that Pete has been a life-changing influence for many students.
Pete worked for me at Alyeska Pipeline as a QC Welding Inspector. His background and experience made him an excellent fit for working with craft personnel, who respected both his knowledge and hands-on expertise. He is very articulate when explaining his positions or points of view, even in situations where evaluating the work of others can be challenging and requires tact.
Pete performs well both in a team environment and when working independently. In any situation, he was a true “fire-and-forget” employee—I could trust that expectations would be met and that any problems encountered would be handled and resolved professionally.
Mr. Daley’s influence has been the common thread throughout my entire professional life. He has been a mentor to me from my time as a high school student, through my career in the Arts/AV industry, and now as a fellow teacher.
Even though I wasn't in his classes in high school, he was always paying attention to my growth. While I was working my way up to News Director at a local station, he went out of his way to tell me he saw my name in the credits. I was proud of what I was earning at the time, but he pushed me to aim higher and encouraged me to get the education I needed to truly succeed.
In my senior year, Mr. Daley coached me through SkillsUSA. I was the only person from my school competing in the video category, which meant I had to work alone while every other competitor had a partner. It was a huge challenge, but Mr. Daley’s belief in my potential gave me the edge I needed. I ended up taking first place in the state and went on to rank 32nd in the nation.
After traveling and working for national and global companies in the film industry, I returned home to Fairbanks to begin my own teaching career. On my very first day in the classroom, Mr. Daley was there to offer the kind of practical advice that only a veteran teacher can give. Now that I am in my third year of teaching, he still checks in on me constantly.
Having a coworker like Mr. Daley is an incredible gift. His long-term dedication to public education and career training is exactly why he deserves this recognition. He doesn't just teach subjects; he helps students build their futures.
Mr. Daley's class was always a highlight of my schoolday, having a teacher that was passionate about the subject matter as well as teaching made all the difference. Welding may not be my day job, but I'm extremely grateful for the skills Pete nurtured in me. I'm very glad to see him receiving the recognition he deserves.
Extremely knowledgeable instructor who demonstrates the professional skills that are needed to be a successful member of the workforce after being in one of Pete’s classes. Also is a guest instructor and assists at the union training center. Great instructor who i was fortunate to be a building administrator alongside!
Mr. Daley is a great instructor. During my time in high school I spent 3 years with him (2019-2022.) He is indeed worthy of this award. He’s taught so many students that can say they know how to weld. And everyone’s got Daley story’s, he’s a well know man.
As someone who was a student at Hutch class of 2015 and worked at Hutchison High School for 3 years. Pete Daley exemplifies what it means to be a mentor and teacher to any student that has came through his class. Sets the standard and tools to give all his welding students to get certifications and be contributing members in our workforce and society. His impact that he has done with the students he has taught in his 20 plus years can’t be measured. He is a cornerstone to what makes Hutchison High School such a special and extraordinary place for students to attend.
I have had the privilege of knowing Pete Daley for a while now. I remember him when he first came to Alaska to teach. I have watched him progress through the years. He started off teaching in a rural village and then moving on to where he is today. I have watched him preserve in his learning and his teaching style. He has tried to keep up with what industry needs. When he was studying for his Certified Welding Inspector license, it wasn’t easy. However, he kept working at it until he accomplished his goal and achieved the license. He has taken on programs and turned them around until they have become successful. Pete shows the students through example how to fulfill their goals in life; hard work and preserving in what you want. What a great example of teaching.
Peter was a student in my class in 4th grade. He was a delight! I recall especially an art project that was a bit complex. It was cutting and assembling giant 3D snowflakes larger than a dinner plate. Peter loved the challenge and easily mastered the written instructions. He then proceeded to help classmates who were struggling. Then he took it a step further and created a series of ever smaller snowflakes. He drew many of his classmates into the challenge. He proudly showed me his final flake which he had downsized to a tiny one not larger than a quarter! This demonstrated to me his intelligence, helpfulness, kindness, creativity, persistence, and inspirational qualities.
I can believe he strives to change the lives of his students for the better every day! I hope he wins the award!
I'm proud to support Mr. Pete Daley for Life Changer of the Year. Being named the 2025-2026 Alaska Teacher of the Year shows the impact he's had as a welding instructor and leader in career-technical education. His work at Hutchison High School has given students real skills, strong work habits and confidence that carries into their careers. My son took his welding class in high school and it motivated him. He has always spoken highly of Mr. Daily and the way he encourages his students. On top of that he has been a wonderful neighbor, is dedicated and kind and out walking every day, no matter the temperature.
Pete Daley exemplifies what it means to be a LifeChanger! Through outstanding leadership, compassion, and professionalism, he creates a nurturing and inclusive environment where students thrive, staff feel supported, and school culture is strengthened.
Students would often bring their completed projects to show me; they glowed with pride using the skills Mr. Daley had taught them.
As his former colleague I could always count on him for thoughtful, sound advice regardless the topic of inquiry or a warm positive greeting that always improved the day.
His passion for learning extends beyond the classroom—he inspired me, as an adult, to pursue welding as a hobby and left me hopeful for the opportunity to one day learn directly from him.
He consistently updates his own knowledge through ongoing classes and certifications, then generously shares that expertise in his teaching.
With a proven record of excellence and a deep commitment to the entire school community, Pete truly changes lives and makes his school a better place every day!
Congratulations, Pete! Your ability to make us proud never falters! I am honored to know you!
I have known and worked with Pete in the summer months as a welding/mechanical inspector on the trans-alaska pipeline for over 10 years. He has been one of the most resourceful people i have worked with, which is a big plus when out remotely on jobs as an inspector who gets tasked with questions about construction and maintenance standards as will as ensuring craftsman meet the standards in doing their work. Pete is prompt and accurate with reporting and very consciencious about his resposibilities.
I worked with Pete for several years and he was an inspiration for me. His ability to work with students and recognize their diversity and life challenges while helping them build career tools is invaluable. Pete has made a great impact on our community, especially with his girls who weld Program, as we continue to guide our youth towards their best future.
I had the privilege of working with Pete in a variety of contexts. As a district administrator, I sought out Pete for "expert" advice on expanding student access to CTE programs, including non-traditional students in CTE, and creating administrative regs and policies to support safe growth of programs that directly helped students. I saw firsthand how Pete's advocacy and support changed students' lives and gave them opportunities for a better future. And Pete was a role model for being a good human, and encouraged his students to be the same. Pete advocated for his peers and other educational professionals as well, knowing that teachers working conditions create student learning conditions. Pete was always learning himself, both modeling that lifelong learning commitment for students but also bringing more expertise and experience back to his students. When I think of life-changing educators, Pete is top of mind.
I had the privilege of having Mr. Daley as a welding instructor at Hutchison and at the Fairbanks pipeline training center. I have no hesitation in saying that Mr. Daley was the most influential teacher I’ve had. His dedication to make sure the every student gets what they need out of hit class to be successful goes far beyond teaching welding. I am just one among many who thank Mr. Daley for the head start in life he provided us. While I do not work in welding I would not be where I’m at In life had I never taken Pete Daleys classes
I had Pete as an elementary student in Deer River, Mn. Pete has a great personality and well liked by faculty and students. Pete is always willing to “ go the extra mile”.
I have worked with Pete in the past, very nice guy good at what he does and a very good teacher and person with his students
Shoutout to my highschool welding teacher Peter Daley. I was lucky to have him as a welding/fabrication instructor from 2020-2023, and he was an outstanding teacher. He taught me how to Tig, mig, and stick weld in multiple positions, and more importantly, he took the time to make sure we truly understood the craft. His patience, knowledge and dedication made a huge impact on my skills and work ethic. Grateful for everything he taught me.
Mr. Daley was my welding teacher (class of 2017) and taught me my favorite and most useful skills of any trade. Helping me push myself to being top of my class and advancing to college level after school welding programs where I was able to prepare myself for not only just a great welding apprenticeship opportunity, but also a life after graduation. I was able to pass the after school programs twice thanks to him. Mr. Daley is associated with most of my fondest memories during my educational journey. All while being extremely professional at his job as a teacher, mentor, and instructor, he was always authentically himself. After graduating and landing my first welding job up north, the first thing I did when I drove back into town was go straight to Hutchison Hugh School just to tell Daley all about my new experiences that were made possible thanks to him. I was very excited and overjoyed when I learned that he had won the Alaska Teacher of the Year award, he absolutely, TRULY deserved it! Thank you for everything you have taught me Mr. Daley. This is a wonderful and well deserved nomination for an outstanding individual.
Pete Daley is a great teacher, professional, and colleague. He’s had success because he’s an expert at his craft and he’s continually learning and trying to improve his practice. Two years ago Pete took a class with me and I loved having him as a student/colleague because he is curious and genuine. I could always count on Pete to ask a thought-provoking question or volunteer to go first. Anytime I run into one of his students I say, “You are so lucky to have Mr. Daley as your teacher!” And they always reply, “Yes, he’s awesome!” Or something similar. Other teachers look to him for leadership and he’s willing to encourage everyone he comes into contact with. He is very deserving of this honor and will represent your organization well.
Mr. Daley was my welding teacher for only a year, but despite that, he taught me more about workplace professionalism and expectations in blue-collar work than any teacher before him. Additionally, he helped many students with practical math and its applications in the trades. What impressed me most about Mr. Daley was his ability to identify motivated students and support them in any way he could. His ability to teach everything there is to know about both the practical and theoretical sides of welding was just a well of knowledge. As a student, Mr. Daley has more information than you could ever want; you simply need to ask, and he will help you find it. He also demonstrates, by example, that he always continues to seek knowledge. We saw this through his continued education and the certifications he earned. All of this on top of the course he is teaching, allowing kids not only to find welding-related skills but also to develop life skills. This, on top of the many more paragraphs of other reasons I could list, is why I believe Mr. Daley should receive the LifeChanger of the Year award.
I was in Pete Daley's Girls Who Weld class, and it was an amazing program that inspired more girls to enter the blue-collar workforce and gave them a starting point to understand the fundamentals of the trade. He was an amazing guy who you could talk to and get a better understanding of how welding works, or even push yourself to learn more and go beyond the basics. Through his Girls Who Weld program and his many connections, he showed us many fields of work that involve welding, plus some extras that also pay quite well for those seeking a good income, plus the programs for women seeking welding licences.
I am so glad to have the privilege of being taught by Mr. Daley. He teaches with much passion and has shown me what I am truly passionate about. His summer Girls Who Weld class gives many girls who are interested in the trades an amazing introduction. He creates a non-competitive environment for girls who are just learning how to weld. He creates life inside the shop and guides every student towards success.
I met Mr. Daley 10 years ago when I started as the apprenticeship coordinator for local 302. I’ve never seen anybody so dedicated to their job, and the support of just not his students but all the students that go to Hutch. He instill’s work skills and life skills into the students. I would’ve loved to have Mr. Daley as my welding instructor when I was at Hutch.
We are very proud of him.
Mr Daley has often spoken if trainings he has attended, encouraging all his students to participate in extra training.
He has been a wonderful welding instructor, and I specifically appreciate how he continues to further his own education and recommend that his students do the same outside of the classroom.
On top of his welding skills, Mr Daley often takes time to express the importance of different employability skills to his students. He Often teaches soft skills and gives extra advice on top of his welding instruction that make worlds of difference to all his students and how they learn.
I am incredibly thankful to have met Mr Daley, and even more glad to have his guidance as my instructor.
Pete has changed the lives of many students in Fairbanks, Alaska. Some knew college wasn’t in their future and believe they were nobody’s without a future. He taught them welding and gave them a trade to support themselves, raise a family and contribute to the community. Many of those students supported are women through Pete’s women in welding summer program which he runs annually for the past 5 years.
Mr. Daley is such a great and fun teacher had a lot of fun in his welding class
Mr Daley was my welding teacher throughout high school he was one of the best teachers I had. Taught me everything I know about welding and a lot more. He always let me come into the shop during free periods and hangout with him and practice welding he definitely deserves this award super stand up guy and amazing instructor.
I have been privileged to know Peter Daley since he was a preschooler and good friend with my son through elementary and high school, Boy Scouts, athletic competitions, school activities and social gatherings. Pete had a natural love for life and interest in learning at a very young age. His ability to do creative thinking and processing information has helped him grow into the amazing educator that he has become. Pete's love for adventure and ability to think outside the box has enabled him to find creative solutions in unusual circumstances. He was persistent in his youth in finding the best solution to a problem no matter how many obstacles he had to overcome. Pete's personality fits his teaching style of total inclusion. He embraces diversity of skill levels, cultural differences, individual personalities and learning styles. A stranger was merely a friend that Peter hadn't met yet. His outgoing personality and sincere interest in conversations with others are character traits of the best educators ever. No conversation is ever too insignificant for Pete, he is a great listener and excellent friend to anyone who knows him. He brings those qualities into his classroom, to build confidence and skill levels within his students to help them along their journey to become successful in their career choices. Pete has the ability to teach holistically, which develops his students' total outlooks on life. Not only are they competent in their skills, but their attitude, work ethic and professionalism are developed, as well. Congratulations, Peter, on being nominated for this prestigious award! As a retired classroom educator and friend, I am so happy for and proud of you for the fine young educator you have become!
I was fortunate enough to have Mr. Daley as my welding teacher for several years in high school back in 2011-2013. He always had a real passion for educating and bettering not only his students, but himself as well. Daley made it a point to instill life work skills in the welding classroom for preparing us for work as adults. He cared about showing his students real world opportunities, such as bringing in tradesmen to speak to us, and taking us on trips to local welding shops to see the process. He often would speak of his own education, and the work he was doing outside of the classroom to improve his own skills.
I was able to participate in the first year of his pipe welding academy at the Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center, which was an amazing experience. He wrote me a wonderful letter of recommendation for my job that I have now been at for almost 13 years. I went into the construction field for the state after graduating high school, and many of the lessons Mr. Daley taught I still use to this day, whether it's how to conduct myself or pulling from my classroom knowledge of welding for bridge inspections!
Mr. Daley is highly deserving of this nomination, and is a truly passionate, hardworking individual that has in turn worked to create more hard-working individuals that have entered his classroom. Thank you for all the work you have done Mr. Daley!
I am so pleased to see Pete being recognized for all he brings to students in Fairbanks.
I had the honor of working with Pete for 9 years at Hutchison while I was the principal. Here are some of the items I highlighted about Pete when I nominated him for the Alaska Teacher of the Year. Congratulations Pete!!!
"Pete has been the Welding instructor at Hutchison High School for many years, long before my arrival. What immediately struck me upon meeting this lanky, welding-dust-covered educator was his remarkable intelligence and passion for continuous learning. Pete is not one to boast, yet he takes great pride in staying current with both industry trends and educational advancements. He frequently shares thought-provoking articles and engages in meaningful discussions with staff, students, and community members about our profession and the impact of learning on future careers.
Recognizing his leadership potential, I invited Pete to join the school’s leadership team. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in refining our Workplace Readiness Score—a tool designed to provide students with valuable feedback on their professional skills as observed by all their teachers. Pete embodies the principles of this document, modeling high expectations for workplace readiness while regularly inviting industry leaders into his classroom to reinforce the professional standards expected in the workforce.
As a career and technical education instructor specializing in welding and drafting, Pete has equipped his students with specialized skill sets, including nationally recognized industry certifications that make them highly employable upon graduation. To ensure their career readiness, he begins each class with an industry-based reading and a mathematics problem that students document in their daily journals—working both independently and collaboratively to find solutions. This approach seamlessly integrates with his hands-on instruction, reinforcing both technical and problem-solving skills. Beyond the classroom, his contributions to programs like the summertime Women in Welding courses and his ongoing engagement in the industry ensure that all students who aspire to enter the trades are well-prepared and positioned for success."
Pete Daley was an excellent teacher that ignited a spark that led me to my current career, he was truly a life changer that helped me get to where I am now, my highest respects go to him
As Pete Daley’s former principal at Minto School, I had the privilege of working closely with him for a number of years. In our small school setting, Pete taught multi-grade classes in addition to career and technical education courses, consistently demonstrating flexibility, strong instructional practice, and an unwavering commitment to students. He built meaningful relationships, held high expectations, and ensured learning was relevant, engaging, and connected to real-world skills.
Pete’s leadership, work ethic, and ability to meet the diverse needs of students were evident early in his career and have only continued to grow. His dedication to expanding opportunities in career and technical education, building strong industry partnerships, and creating inclusive programs reflects the same passion and professionalism he demonstrated in Minto. His recognition as the 2025–2026 Alaska Teacher of the Year is well deserved and a true reflection of his lasting impact on students, schools, and communities across Alaska.
Mr Daley was always a solid, wise and dependable. He pushed you to do the best you could while still being understanding. I’ve learned many things from Daley that I still use in my everyday life even after over ten years. Daley is an inspiration for fellow educators and a role model for students. Everyone is better off for having known Mr Daley.
I’ve had the privilege of working with Pete Daley in a professional capacity through collaborations between his Girls Who Weld program at Hutchison High School and my office at FAST Planning. Pete has an extraordinary ability to connect real-world problems with hands-on learning in a way that empowers students and delivers tangible benefits to the community. Through our collaborative work creating custom bike racks for Fairbanks, I’ve seen how he builds confidence, skills, and pride in his students by giving them real responsibility and treating them as capable professionals. Applying their skills to permanent public infrastructure not only supports safer, more equitable mobility in Fairbanks, it gives these young women a deep sense of pride in making their community stronger. The impact of Pete’s teaching extends far beyond the shop, and this nomination as a life-changing educator is deeply deserved.
Throughout my high school experience Mr. Daley taught me valuable lessons in life. He didn’t just teach me how to weld but he also taught me important life lessons that I use to this day. Growing up I always heard good things about Mr. Daley since my older brother went through his classes too. I knew that once I was able, I would want to take his class. There was a point when I almost didn’t take his class because I knew I would be one of the only girls in the class, and it felt like I would be the only one who has no prior knowledge of welding. Thankfully that summer before taking his class was the first summer he decided to start the Girls Who Weld program. If it wasn’t for the program I probably would have never shown my face in his classroom. The program taught me all the fundamental aspects of welding, helping me go into the school year confident in my knowledge and ability to weld. Mr. Daley put his time and attention into each student making sure they learned everything they could from the class. That school year I was able to build my skills and pass my first welding certification. I realized how beneficial it is for girls to learn how to weld that I wanted to help Mr. Daley in his goals of raising the number of women who can weld. The following summer I was able to assist Mr. Daley in teaching the Girls Who Weld program. Throughout the years of knowing Mr. Daley it is clear that he loves his job and helping students in any way he can. I can’t imagine anyone more deserving for this award than Mr. Daley.
Mr daley was my welding instructor when I was in high-school and I learned lessons tips and tricks from him that ill carry with me for the rest of my life, he was allways helpful and seemed to have a unending well if information about welding and meany other party of life that he would share freely with all of us. In my mind Mr daley is the man.
I took Mr. Daley class before graduating in 2021 and left his class feeling confident in my welding abilities. Thanks to him showing a wide variety of different ways to weld. The environment of his shop was always great, thanks Mr. Daley!
Mr. Daley was my welding instructor throughout my years of high school. Not only was he an amazing instructor, but he was very knowledgeable and easy to get along with. Mr Daley is genuine and has a good head on his shoulders. I am very thankful to have had him as an instructor and a mentor.
I had the privilege to have Mr. Daley as my welding teacher in high school and he brings a "real world" aspect into the classroom that not many teachers do, not only did I learn basic welding and shop skills that have benefited my life and career he also is a great role model with a calm demeanor that is understanding and there to help fix the problem and make sure you improve. He has changed my life for the better as well as the many others here which is why he is an excellent nominee for this reward.
Pete was my welding instructor well over a decade ago. His mentorship shaped my expectations and attitude towards the next 9 years of my education.
Pete took whomever enrolled in his course. It did not matter your background, whether you were training to be in the trades, or some other career field. Pete was going to teach you to weld come hell or highwater.
His attitude towards teaching set the standard for my instructors through my time in highschool, College, and eventually Law School.
Likewise, his teaching was so thorough, and engaging, that his instruction on quality of product and inspecting assisted me while I served in the military, as a prosecutor, and even in my brief stint in aviation.
Pete’s impact on his students’ lives, as well as education, is one which lasts a lifetime.
In my current position, I am responsible for teaching employees of my company, College and Law Students, as well as teaching CLE’s to attorneys. When I prepare for these classes, I often think back to Pete’s patient and inclusive teaching style while considering how to tackle difficult tasks.
Pete is someone whose calm demeanor, high quality trade craft, and general approachability is critical in a smallish rural(ish) community like Fairbanks. He makes education look good.
I've known Pete for 15 years. I was the lead English teacher at the high school when Pete started. From day one, he was a teacher that students respected and loved. His ties to the Alaska Native community really made him someone who could relate to all of our students. His teaching style let all students feel like they could learn and succeed. Pete is top shelf.
I have known Pete Daley in my capacity as an international speaker, best-selling author, and educational thought leader for the last 7 years. I have worked closely with Pete and believe him to be an extraordinary teacher, leader, and human. He is passionate and inspiring to everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.
I speak to 10’s of thousands of educators across North America and Pete is an impressive standout in every way. I am honored and privileged to write this comment on his behalf.
Thank you, Pete for everything you do and the lives you improve each moment!
Mr.Daley was the best teacher I had through my entire time in high school. His ability to explain fairly complex skills in a way that almost anyone can understand was amazing and something I still appreciate today. By my senior year I was taking two different welding classes in addition to being Mr.Daleys TA. Noticing my passion for welding and lack of direction for what I wanted to do after high school, Mr.Daley recommended I join a school to apprenticeship program. That guidance led me to join local 375 as a pipefitting apprentice. 6 years later and now I’m a licensed journeyman and glad to see the Mr.Daley has continued to guide kids to achieving their highest potential in professional careers.
Mr. Daley didn’t just teach us how to burn Rod. — he helped shape our confidence, patience, and pride in real-world skills. He took the time to help every student, no matter their level. He’d show us that mistakes are part of learning and that hard work pays off. Because of him, we didn’t just learn how to weld — we learned responsibility, respect for the trade, and belief in ourselves. Thank you for caring, for pushing us to be better, and for making a lasting difference in our lives.
Pete Daley was my welding instructor from 2016-2017, and was such an inspiration to me then and now! He helped me get into and start my now career of Telecommunications all those years ago. I took both the intro to welding class, and the intro to electrical trades class my junior and senior years in high school, and later ended up starting and completing the apprenticeship with IBEW. Thanks to great instructors like Daley for striving for excellence in the teaching realm, was I able to be a bigger part of not only Women in the Trades, but an advocate for high school students to learn and develop skills to get into the trades themselves! Excited to see Daley continue his already successful journey in the trades/ classroom!
Peter daily is an astounding teacher that I had the pleasure of learning from, In this day and age its hard to find instructors that care as much about technial education as Mr. Daily. Daily was my welding instructor senior year of 2025 and was one of the best classes I had. Not only did we learn to weld, we learned respect, saftey, comon sense, and how to apply what weve learned in class to the real world. And as a teacher in public education arguably the most important thing you can teach students is how to apply what you've learned to life because what good is information if students dont know how to apply it. Mr. Daily was always able to make that happen.
Pete Daley, my former high school welding instructor, is an excellent candidate for Life Changer of the Year Award due to his significant impact on students' education and career paths. Mr. Daley has had a profound influence on my academic and personal development. His leadership in the "Girls in Welding" summer course has notably increased female participation in this traditionally male-dominated field. I was part of the first "Girls in Welding" summer course, and it is a key reason for where I am today, thanks to the course and Mr. Daley's efforts. He fosters an inclusive and supportive classroom environment, motivating students to pursue their interests with confidence and determination. Through his mentorship, I gained the skills and self-assurance needed to achieve my academic and career goals. I joined the plumbers and pipefitters right out of high school and am now a first-year apprentice. I owe a great deal of my success to Mr. Daley; he is the reason I am where I am today, which is why I nominated him for the 2026 Teacher of the Year award. Mr. Daley truly deserves this recognition, as demonstrated by the many positive comments from previous and current students, parents, and colleagues. He takes the time to tailor his teaching methods to benefit us the most, unlike many teachers who simply aim to get through the day. He genuinely cares about our futures, which is rare these days. His efforts are focused on our well-being, not on himself. I could continue to speak about how inspiring he is as a mentor and how deserving he is of this opportunity. However, the final decision is not ours to make. I encourage you to give him a chance, as he has the potential and much more to positively impact many lives around the world, just as he has already done for all of us. Thank you sincerely,
Eva Miscovich, class of 2025, Hutchison High School.
Mr. Daley was a huge part of my success after high school. Graduating in 2017, he helped set me up for success in the trades with welding certs and amazing reference letters for my union application. With his help I was able to be accepted into an apprenticeship directly out of high-school and into a forgiving career.
I had Mr Daley for welding and drafting classes at Hutch. He’s a phenomenal educator, and the skills he teaches set up his students for future success. I’ve used the things I learned in Mr Daley’s class to get every job I’ve had since I graduated and I can’t thank him enough.
I had the opportunity to work with Mr. Daley in the program Girls Who Weld during the summer. He is an amazing welding instructor. He pays attention to each and every student, never leaving them behind. He is always there to lend a hand when a student needs it. When it came to him teaching me personally, I felt supported. He taught me everything I needed to know with welding along with CNC machines. When I got frustrated, he reassured me that mistakes happen and that we can still make the best of any situation. Mr. Daley made an impact on my character and my future. He was never there to judge or leave his students in the dust. He was there to teach, to be a role model, and to open up opportunities for his students. I can not imagine a more deserving instructor of this honor than Mr. Pete Daley.
I have worked with Mr. Daley for the past five years. He is not only an excellent teacher, but also someone all students look up to, and attending his classes is often the highlight of their day. I consistently hear positive feedback from students and can clearly see the lasting impact Pete has on all students—not just those in his classes. He instills confidence, encourages growth, and provides students with the knowledge they need to achieve whatever they choose to pursue in life. He is a role model that every student can admire and learn from.
I totally understand why Mr Daley has been nominated for this award. He has impacted myself and others far more than any other teacher. I use what I learned in his class almost daily at my job. Whenever I bring up that I learned to weld at hutch to someone, almost every time they know him and they always have something great to say about him. He has helped me build my welding and fabrication skills, but also my character. He teaches good work ethic. He teaches that adulthood and working is hard and how to best set yourself up for it. He teaches students to never stop learning, and to keep growing at wherever you are in life. Mr. Daley is the smartest person I know. The amount of books and manuals that he has in his office is mind boggling because he’s read each of them more than once and taken notes on all of them. It blows my mind to know that he could be a full time CWI year round and probably make a lot more money. But he chooses to teach young and unknowing kids. He would also go out of his way to be friendly and personal to myself and others. By either asking how we’re doing or what we did over the weekend or where we’re working, he’s always interested in our well being and is glad to hear where we are working in the trades. I haven’t said a fraction of all the good things about Mr. Daley, he’s the best teacher and the best at what he does.
Peter Daley is an exceptional teacher/instructor. I graduated in 2022 and took part in his welding class my Senior year. He taught this class very well and showed interest in all of his students. Whether that be helping them determine where they were going to go in the next chapter in their life or direct hands on learning with you individually.
He wanted all of his students to try every avenue of his class to see what they liked or wanted to do the most. Not only is Peter Daley a great teacher but he is also someone very easy to talk to and ask for guidance, he does his best to help anyone move in the right direction.
Mr.Daley had a large part in me pursuing welding, and the pipefitters union. From day one he was supportive, understanding, everything a teacher should be for someone that is just learning. I would have never known about the opportunities available if he didn’t talk to me about it. He instilled confidence in me, and I’m forever grateful for it!
Mr. Daley was an exceptional welding instructor and mentor who impacted my life and the lives of many others. He demonstrated a genuine commitment to ensuring that every student was equipped with not only the technical skills required to succeed in welding, but also the discipline, confidence, and work ethic necessary to succeed in life. Mr. Daley’s dedication to his craft and to the success of his students was truly inspiring, and his influence will be felt long after the lessons ended.
I can’t think of a more deserving recipient than Mr. Daley, he truly goes above and beyond for his students. I was a part-time student at Hutchison and participated in his welding classes, CAD drafting class, and the after school trades academy. Mr. Daley went out of his way to help me complete a AP Statistics research paper focused on welding, and pushed me to become a better version of myself. While I didn’t choose welding as my career, the professional skills I learned as his student have carried over into my career and I am thankful for every lesson I learned from him.
I took Mr. Daley’s welding class during my time at Hutchison. Not only did I learn the different welding processes and different fabrication techniques, but he also taught me life skills for being successful in any career path I found. Mr. Daley is the one that guided me in the direction of my Process Technology degree. One of the most valuable mentors I have had during my education!
Pete Daley is an exceptional individual and educator. I am fortunate to work alongside him. Awarded the 2025–2026 Alaska Teacher of the Year, his excellence is evident. Pete is passionate about teaching and dedicated to helping students achieve their career potential. His students hold great respect for Mr. Daley and gain a lot from his teaching. As an outstanding welding instructor, he also hosts a summer Girls Who Weld camp, empowering girls to pursue careers in the welding industry and making a significant community impact.
Additionally, Pete is a remarkable mentor. As a new teacher, I've greatly benefited from his regular check-ins and guidance.
Mr. Daley is an exceptional instructor and is known as “the standard” when referring to welding programs in both the Fairbanks North Star Borough and the State of Alaska. As a long time Alaskan I have had several conversations with many different construction industry individuals that have high praise for Pete along with excitement that he is helping guide our future welders.
As an Automotive Technology instructor I recently had the opportunity to share just how technical newer vehicles are with Pete. I found an immense amount of joy answering his questions as he wanted to understand “the why”. It reminded me of when my daughter was of grade school age and would closely watch my every move paying attention to every little detail of my systematic approach when working on vehicles. I have come to understand that while most people are annoyed by the constant questions, if you take the time to listen you will understand that the questions are a person's passion to learn.
When you have a mixture of self accountability that is the backbone of his setting of the standard, along with his continued passion to learn after all his years of teaching, you have what I believe is an exceptional educator.
I had the pleasure of Peter Daily last year. I was new to teaching a year ago and received guidance that seemed to magically appear just when I really needed it. Books and lessons still anonymously show up in my classroom just as things seem to become challenging. He has alway been willing to take time to answer a question or message, regardless of his own class load. He has never looked for any recognition from me, it just comes naturally from him. When I saw this nomination, I felt compelled to add my interaction with Peter.
I graduated back in 2021 and I still live and work in Fairbanks, one of my coworkers at a local machine shop who recently turned 30 was a student at Hutchison over a decade ago. He had a very difficult home life as a teenager and struggled massively with academics, but today he’s a phenomenal welder and machinist who uses his skills to support a happy and flourishing family. When I brought up that I also went to Hutchison, the first name he mentioned was Mr. Daley. From my own observations during and after high school, he’s often been the turning point that sends troubled students down the road to a better future.
Mr. Daley is an outstanding educator who's passion and attention to detail shows in everything he does. He is not just an excellent teacher, but an example to his students of what professionalism and dedication looks like. He has been a professional roll model to me and is the reason I decided to dedicate myself to pursuing welding as my career. Mr. Daley is a life changer because he isn't afraid to be himself; he weaves his personality, humor, and expanse of relevant information into his instruction so effectively that even familiar material is engaging to listen to. Just this morning, Mr. Daley demonstrated why not being afraid to be himself makes all the difference when he brought smiles and laughter to a room full of us groggy high schoolers at 7:35 in the morning. Furthermore, Mr. Daley is a life changer because he cares about his students as people. Each time I've interacted with Mr. Daley, he has asked me how I am and listens intently, no matter my answer, and shows genuine interest and compassion by asking specific questions and sharing his insightful perspective. I have seen very similar conversations with the same energy put into each of his students respectively each morning. I have had Mr. Daley as a teacher and an instructor for multiple years and I have never once been disappointed by a lesson, one on one instruction, conversation, or demonstration from him. Mr. Daley brings his impressive technical knowledge, confidence, and positive attitude wherever he goes. Mr. Daley is a life changer.
Congratulations on your nomination, Mr. Daley! There is not enough space here to list all of the amazing traits Mr. Daley embodies and why he is beyond deserving of this award. He is the teacher that you know leaves a lasting, positive impression on a student. He is the teacher that acts as a conduit - relaying his passion and professionalism to each and every student he teaches. He is the male role model you wish all young boys had. He is intentional and intuitive - he taps into the learning style of each student and meets them were they are at. He truly IS a life changer.
Pete Daley is a model educator. Not only is he a consummate CTE teacher and community member, he is tirelessly engaged in his own education. Pete reads voraciously on subjects including, but not limited to, the unique conditions, challenges, and motivations of young people today. Affectionately known as “The Pete Daley Book Club,” his enthusiastic recommendations to his colleagues and anyone else who will listen foster a sense of deep understanding of students that extends far beyond the classroom. His students, colleagues, and community at large are fortunate to have his unquenchable vigor for the cultivation and sharing of knowledge.
Pete Daley is an exceptional career and technical education (CTE) instructor. Pete motivates his students and guides them toward their passion in the physical trades. Pete truly cares for his students and invests individual time in each and every one to ensure they are supported and confident in their abilities. Pete is very dedicated and involved not only as an instructor, but also as a voice and advocate for CTE programing. Pete is a cordial and valuable co worker and is always willing to go the extra mile to benefit his school and students.
Mr. Daley is the ideal teacher; he is the type of teacher that you want your child to have. I've worked with Pete for several years now. He taught my middle son everything he knows about Welding. As an educator, I see Mr. Daley’s impact firsthand every day. Students who struggle in traditional academic settings often find confidence and purpose in his class. In Mr. Daley’s classroom, he requires his students to learn a strong work ethic, perseverance, accountability, and pride in their work. He emphasizes on-the-job safety and professional standards, preparing students not just to pass a class, but to succeed in the workforce. Equally important, he teaches students how to advocate for themselves—how to ask questions, problem-solve, and take ownership of their learning and career paths. Students who were once disengaged become motivated and proud of their accomplishments. Attendance has improved, confidence has increased, and students are setting realistic postsecondary goals because someone believed in them and held them to high expectations. Mr. Daley genuinely cares about his students’ futures. He has a famous quote that I love. "Students don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." He takes time to talk with them about career options, certifications, employability skills, and what it means to be a dependable worker. He holds students accountable, pushing them to do their best, and celebrates their success.
It has been an honor working with Mr. Pete Daley for the last four years. He supports the students and is an exceptional Educator. Some of my students complete their classwork ahead of time, to have extra work time in Mr. Daley's class.
Pete Daley fills a need in our community, because of his instruction, students leave with skills they can actually build a career on. He expects quality work, but he also takes the time to help students reach those standards rather than giving up on them. As a colleague, he’s someone others trust and learn from—always willing to share knowledge and help improve the program.
I think if I had to break it down into one reason why Pete deserves an award like this, it’s not because he’s an excellent welding teacher, it’s because he’s teaching young individuals how to be independent. I took Mr. Daley’s welding class for the last 3 years of my time in high school and out of all the classes I had I still think about his the most. He encouraged me to chase something that I can admit now I was scared of doing. I joined the local 375 right out of high school and I’m sitting on only a year left in my apprenticeship. The skills and tools I learned how to use in regards to welding have definitely helped me, but what helped me more is the mindset that Pete helped me instill in myself. Thank you Mr. Daley!
Pete Daley is an incredibly inspirational welding teacher who brings out the best in his students and the people around him. He has a real gift for building confidence, teaching pride in high-quality work, and helping students see a future for themselves in the skilled trades. Pete also leads with vision and heart. Programs like Girls That Weld show how he opens doors, challenges old assumptions, and creates a welcoming, high-expectations space where all students can succeed. His work is not just changing individual lives, it is strengthening opportunities for students across Alaska. He is truly a leader among leaders in our state. Pete’s ability to help students earn industry-recognized welding certifications speaks to the strength and credibility of his program. And throughout the state, he contributes his expertise to support other efforts and programs as well. Pete Daley represents the best of Career and Technical Education: innovative, encouraging, and committed to student success.
Good down to earth teacher, Students like his real life approach to teaching CTE. He is a teacher for the real world not for rigid education.
Mr. Daley is a role model to those students that take his classes as well as other students in the school. As a parent of teens himself, he understands the many nuances of this age. This experience, as well as that gained in the field of welding, work and life itself has given him a greater understanding as well as compassion to the high school students. He is often a mentor to his students while recognizing those that need an extra push to attain their goals. His teaching style is straightforward and understandable, even to the lay person with minimal experience in the welding realm. His students know daily what to expect and how to succeed not only in the classroom but in their chosen career.
Even outside of the normal school year, he finds ways to help student learn and find success in their career path. One example is his support of women in the welding roles and hosting the Women in Welding summer program. This in itself is helping to break that gender barrier that many women face in this very male dominated profession.
It has been an honor to work with Mr. Daley these past few years.
Mr. Daley was my welding instructor for three years during my time in high school. Throughout that time, he was kind, very patient, and fostered creativity, leading me to choose a path involving welding. Mr. Daley, your guidance and expertise have truly shaped my skills, my passion, and my future and I cannot thank you enough. Couldn't think of a better person to be nominated for the LifeChanger of the year award!
I’m proud to support Mr.Daley for LifeChanger of the Year. I was in his welding class for two years, and the skills he taught me directly helped me get my current job. He also helped us work on fun, hands-on projects that made learning welding enjoyable and meaningful. He’s always supportive and patient, and he’s made a huge impact on my life and future.
Mr. Daley was a instructor for me in high-school at hutch. He was easily one of the best teachers I've had and was very instrumental in helping me get into the trades and start my career as an electrician. I dont think I would be where I am at in life if it wasnt for having him as a teacher.
In summer of 2022, I was in girls in welding (a program where girls learn to weld in different ways), and Mr. Daley was my instructor. Not only has Mr. Daley made me feel very safe in an environment I had personally never been in before, but he also made welding something I actually found interest in. Mr. Daley has created a safe environment for female in a male dominated workplace.
I'm so happy to see Mr. Daley continue to get the recognition he deserves. A couple years ago I had taken a bold step and decided to sign up for his summer, Girls Who Weld class. It gave me an opportunity to be introduced to welding and the trades in an environment that felt more comfortable for me. The following school year I signed up for welding. I was able to complete multiple welding certificates. Now I'm in college set to graduate in 2027. I still carry the life lessons he taught me. Of all things he made me feel very brave and taught me that I can do hard things, and that I can also be an intellectual while doing hard things. I'll never forget what an awesome teacher he is and the impact he has made on our community.
Mr. Daley was my welding instructor in high school. His patient and committed approach to teaching a skill was a huge impact on me. Over ten years later im still welding and using skills taught by him.
Mr.Daley taught me my trade I still work with until this day and I’m very grateful to have had him as the best teacher
I was one of Mr. Daley’s welding students at Hutchison High School several years ago. I’m very thankful for the skills and lessons taught to me and have been able to apply them throughout my career since finishing high school.
Pete Daly is the kind of educator who doesn’t wait for permission or perfect conditions—he sees a need and simply gets to work. As a local high school welding instructor, Pete consistently goes above and beyond what is required, often stretching limited school district resources and, when necessary, contributing his own time and money to ensure his students have what they need to succeed. He embodies the principle of doing things the right way: resourceful, ethical, and always focused on outcomes for students.
Pete has been a strong and consistent partner with the Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center. He has attended numerous FPTC events and has taught high school students introductory courses in the trades, including plumbing and pipefitting, helping young people see real, attainable pathways into skilled careers. His commitment to exposing students to the trades has had a lasting impact on both individuals and our workforce pipeline.
On behalf of FPTC, we can say without hesitation that our community needs more people like Pete Daly—educators who lead by example, invest personally in their students, and quietly change lives through action rather than words. Pete Daly is a true life changer in our community and deserves this recognition.
Mr. Daley is one of the greatest educators I had during my K-12 schooling. He cares about every one of his students and will move mountains to help them succeed. I am very proud to say I was taught by Mr. Daley.
I'm so pleased to hear of your recent nomination for the Life Changer of the year award. You've had a positive influence on the lives of countless students. Many students have been inspired by your classroom instruction, practical guidance and extraordinary leadership.
As a former CTE instructor, I was blessed to have my classroom next to Pete's welding shop. During those years, I have observed His hard work and dedication in preparing students for a successful career in the trades.
Pete is a true professional. In order for students to receive quality instruction, Pete expects himself to be highly qualified. He holds a great number of hard earned industry certifications, always exceeding standards.
Students who exit Pete's welding program go forth with not only skilled confidence but a job expectant attitude of future success.
Pete was my welding instructor at Hutchison High School. He teaches much more than welding, he teaches skills that will take you much farther in life than had you not have gotten them. He’s very involved in the Intro To Trades classes that happen in May, in which he is one of the instructors of the pipe welding class. Pete also runs girls who weld, a program in the Summer that focuses on getting job opportunities and life experience out to Woman. Pete was the biggest life changer of my life. Before taking his class I wasn’t all that familiar with the trades or much of anything to do with them. He helped me learn about all of the unions and would take us on trips to certain work environments such as Fort Knox or Holaday-Parks. All of these trips were a huge insight on their respective fields of work. Near the end of my years of high school, I was wondering what would be something that could get me a jumpstart into the trades, and Pete had recommended becoming a welder’s helper for the winter on the pipeline. I went down to the hall and signed up for the winter, which was one of the greatest decisions. Pete had a huge role in where I am right now and I appreciate that more than anything. Pete is the biggest life changer in my story.
Mr. Daley is well deserved with this nomination. Mr. Daley is a big reason to my success even after the welding course I took with him for 2 years in 2017. Now I am a Journeyman with our Local375 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. The skills I learned from Mr. Daley, I have been able to apply first hand in my career and everyday life. From welding, working with tools, working in a shop/ hands on experience, to just talking about problems and coming up with practical solutions with the resources at hand. Even the years that have passed since I have taken Mr. Daley’s course. He still remembers me and every time I see him, he says hey and asks questions about work and life and truly cares about his students past and present. Mr. Daley has had an immeasurable impact on my life and the success in my career!
I was one of Mr.Daley’s student in welding and learned a lot from him. I did some weld tests with him and he helped me work on the pipeline after graduating. The lessons he has taught me in welding and working have stayed with me.
I had Mr. Daley's welding class my sophomore, junior and senior year's
Where I learned how to stick weld in various positions, MIG welding and also TIG welding. He taught me along with many others a lot about the trade. I owe a pretty big part of my career to Mr. Daley, he was always charismatic and enjoyed teaching. I don't know what about his technique that clicked with me, but it did and he made learning an important life and career skill fun. He's a pretty wicked guy to be around and I'm very happy to see that he's become a life-changer of the year award, he deserves it if you ask me. I can't speak for others but he's one of the reasons I am, where I am in my adult life, and for that I'm truly thankful. Thank you Mr. Daley for what you do on a dailey basis.
I was one of Mr.Daley’s student in welding and learned a lot from him. I did some weld tests with him and he helped me work on the pipeline after graduating. The lessons he has taught me in welding and working have stayed with me.
Mr. Daley has had an absolutely outsized impact on my life! His classroom manner was always extremely encouraging for all students, and to this day I use the skills he taught in that welding shop both in my own life and in my professional life.
Pete Daley would be an amazing recipient of this award! As the State legislator for the district in Fairbanks that includes Hutchison High School, I have been impressed and honored to get to know Pete and to watch how he manages his classroom by inspiring students. His work in trades education is essential for Arctic development, for our states economy, and provides an excellent example for how skilled workers can drive innovation and success across our nation. I’d like to offer my highest support of Mr. Pete Daley because I have seen the confidence and creativity he fosters for students- particularly providing this inspiration to young women that have traditionally been underrepresented in these essential fields. My deepest appreciation goes out to Mr. Daley for his work!
I was one of Peter's teachers in his post-secondary Industrial Technology Education program. His strong dedication to teaching and learning was evident from the beginning of his journey; his achievement of excellence in preparing others for success perfectly aligns with his purpose in life. Peter's effectiveness in teaching is stellar, but what some people may not know about him is his expansive knowledge of many subjects; he continuously seeks and studies a wide range of topics and applies his depth of knowledge to his work. Peter is certainly a professional in his career, but he is also an all-around amazing person! In conversations with him, he is incredibly articulate in conveying knowledge, values, and a true passion for making the world a better place. I'm really proud to know you, Peter.
I worked in education for 42 years as a teacher, school counselor, and CTE Director. I have worked with hundreds of teachers in two states, when I reflect on that experience, and think of those teachers who really made a difference in student and teacher lives, the list is short. Pete Daley is at the top of the list. He is always eager to engage in new pedagogy and stives to understand how it will be of benefit to the students he works with every day. He is willing to challenge his own beliefs in order to make his classroom an engaging environment for all students.
When I was the CTE director for the school district we looked at the data of who was in our classrooms and, more importantly, who wasn't in our classrooms. Welding was one program that didn't have a strong female presence. I pitched the idea to Pete about teaching a Girls Who Weld class in the summer so they could build some confidence and skills and then, hopefully, they would enroll in the welding program during the school year. He grabbed on to the challenge with incredible tenacity and researched why girls traditionally didn't enroll in welding classes and examined what he could do better as a teacher to make it a great experience for them. He has taught the class during the summer for five years and it has been incredibly successful, not because of the curriculum he is teaching but the way he is teaching it. He has high expectations for them to become the best welder they can be and he also, through a wide variety of activities, exposes the students to successful women in the trades. The most important gift he gives them is building their self confidence and gives them tools to be successful. The class has been extremely popular, and it has done what he set out to do, bring more females into the field of welding and it has been exciting to see them go on to make it a career. They walk taller and speak loudly about their journey and also come back as mentors to the class each summer.
This is one example of Pete's ability to create an environment that allows all students to be successful, he really does this in all his classes, all day long. All you have to do is walk into his classes and talk to his students and you will hear them tell you how he has changed their lives, not only in welding but in life.
Pete Daley is truly a life changer. He makes a difference every day with his students and, in turn, with the teachers he teaches with daily.
Mr. Daley is a great teacher and I had his welding class for my last two years of high school. Many of my friends and fellow graduates went into the trades due to his class that lead into successful careers! I strongly recommend anyone who has the opportunity to be taught by Mr. Daley to take advantage of it!
Where to even begin. Mr. Daley was by far the best teacher I ever had. I was lucky enough to have had the opportunity to attend the advanced welding program at Hutchison high school in 2014. At that time Mr. Daley encouraged myself and multiple other students to attend the after school welding program at the Fairbanks pipeline training center. Where we honed our skills to prepare us for a career in the trades. Daley was there to help and train every step of the way. He’s one of the the kindest and most skilled teachers in the field. I wouldn’t be where I am today without his guidance, and support. There is no one I would have rather had as a teacher then Mr. Daley. He has brought so many opportunities to our students and community. This award would truly be an understatement, to what he has accomplished and brought to our community and students. Thanks you Mr. Daley.
He was my teacher all throughout high school. Really amazing guy have absolutely nothing bad to say about him. He always helped me and my friends along with everyone he could help he would.
Mr. Pete Daley is a true life changer who leads with a philosophy that students don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care, consistently building deep, authentic relationships necessary for lifelong success. As a master of his trade who models a growth mindset, he teaches with a high-technical expertise and an approach to instruction that will o current industry standards. He empowers students to “know their why” and possess every graduate is his program with the elite welding skills and the professional grit required to be highly successful in the workforce. He is most deserving of this award.
As the Principal of HHS (ret) I hired Pete as the welding program instructor.
Pete hit the ground running. HHS was Built on the High Schools That Work philosophy and Pete incorporated that philosophy into his entire program. He took the HHS welding program to a phenomenal level. He accepted every challenge and took every professional development opportunity to build his skills and to keep up with industry standards. He incorporated that knowledge into his program and passed it on to his students. He worked to build partnerships with industry and developed programs that provided students connections to future employment.
In additionally to welding skills Pete incorporated “soft skills” for employ ability into the program. He demonstrated to his students how basic academic skills applied in their welding program. Pete models all of those skills in his own professional development.
Pete is an outstanding individual who has made a difference in so many people’s lives.
What can I say, what can I say… Mr. Pete Daley has helped, assisted, guided, taught, and inspired innumerous students, young and old, from the distances of Tok Alaska to Nenana, to Minto, Ruby, Fairbanks, Fox, North Pole, Petersburg, and Coldfoot to Prudhoe Bay. From these towns and beyond his knowledge of pedagogy, his knowledge of his students, and his knowledge of Welding content, seems to be never ending, never ending, and is always, always growing. Daley appears always striving for more, especially when it comes to his students learning. For this, I commend him. He is a top notch CTE teacher, he is one of the best. I know this, as I am also in the business of CTE, this being my 20th year. Pete does a bang-up job, is ridiculously good at teaching.
So, what else can I say? Some highlights of his teaching would, of course, include the girls who weld program, which rotates between two communities in Alaska. Also, Pete’s mentoring, which has personally motivated me to gain more knowledge in the in the sciences, in the trades, and in the realm of anything welding. We have actually studied together every Sunday for a year, so that I can take a crack at a certified welding inspector license, which entails a grueling 3-part test, which by the way, Pete accomplished. Now this license is an accomplishment in and of itself, worthy of just a fraction of a few men and women worldwide. Pete will continue to be there helping us strive to learn, as he would help all of his students to strive to continue learning. Keep it up.
Doug Daley Pete’s dad. I look back on his journey through early life, his perseverance showed in whatever challenges were presented. In the many Sunday night phone calls, the one conversation that stands out was him asking, “How can I make a difference for my students. I pointed out to him be more than a teacher, be a mentor. Another question asked was how will I know? My answer to him was “time “ will be the judge of that. The many comments that I have read so far Pete “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Your Mom and I are very proud and would say to you please continue on.
I have known Pete Daley for at least 15 years and also taught an adjacent welding class next to his at Hutchison Career Center for ten years. Beyond that I came to know him more through our mutual programs in continuing welding education at Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center where I have been an instructor for the last 16 years.. In that time we have worked together both in academia and on the job, but also become confidants and friends. He’s old school when it comes to the value of labor and trade oriented programs and has preached fervently to the powers that be how this is more relevant than ever for individuals seeking a positive impact I today’s world. I couldn’t agree more… His roots lay in tradesmen work, education, patriotism with an emphasis on family values. He is well read, intelligent, has a great moral character and really driven in his pursuit to bolster the American worker regardless of trade. His resume is true and right as rain and I would back this man come Hell or high water all damn day! Regardless of the outcome here, I can guarantee his legacy will speak for itself as time moves on. There are many a young individual who has moved into a well paying trade type job that will attest to his influence. I have seen them, as some have charted their course into Local 375’s ranks and we are better for them! Pete is exactly the type mentor we need more of IMO… his dedication, perseverance and drive are absolutely above par. His commitment to industry is, quite frankly awesome and it shows….

As a welding teacher, Mr. Daley teaches far more than technical skills—he teaches life skills that shape students into capable, confident, and future-ready adults.
In Mr. Daley’s classroom, students learn strong work ethic, perseverance, accountability, and pride in their work. He intentionally integrates math and chemistry into welding instruction, helping students see the real-world relevance of academic concepts. He emphasizes on-the-job safety and professional standards, preparing students not just to pass a class, but to succeed in the workforce. Equally important, he teaches students how to advocate for themselves—how to ask questions, problem-solve, and take ownership of their learning and career paths.
As a school counselor, I see Mr. Daley’s impact firsthand every day. Students who struggle in traditional academic settings often find confidence and purpose in his class. I see students who were once disengaged become motivated, and proud of their accomplishments. I see improved attendance, increased confidence, and students setting realistic postsecondary goals because someone believed in them and held them to high expectations.

He takes time to talk with them about career options, certifications, employability skills, and what it means to be a dependable worker and teammate. He holds students accountable, pushing them to do their best, and celebrates their growth—both personally and professionally.
Mr. Dailey is an amazing teacher. Who is always pushing his students to be a better version of themselves, not just in welding but in everyday life. I began taking his class my senior year of high school, knowing nothing about welding. Within those 9 months of learning he was able to teach me SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, GMAW, and oxyacetylene torch welding. Not only did he teach us how to weld he was able to teach all of us so well most of us ended the year at least having one welding certification. However it isn’t just Welding skills Mr. Dailey taught us; he also taught amazing life skills that I have brought into the Air Force with me, such as timeliness, and one of our core values excellence in all we do. I remember a conversation we had about cleanliness, how when you use one of the welding booths you always leave it cleaner and better than when you found it. This concept has followed me everywhere I have gone, my work, my dorm and wherever it is that I go. Mr. Dailey also strives to be the best that he can possibly be stating that when you stop learning, when you become stagnant you will be surpassed, and when someone surpasses you, you have less opportunities. He is still learning everyday and that alone inspires me to be the best that I can be. Mr. Dailey is an amazing teacher and deserves the award he has been given.
Dear Committee,
I have known Pete for 22 years. I had the opportunity to work with him early in my career in Minto, Alaska, a small Alaska village. There he taught many subjects not in his specialty. He was respected by the village elders, students, and his colleagues. As the school counselor, I had several villages that I served, but when I was in Minto I always stayed with him versus the gym floor in the school. During those many cold, dark nights holed up in teacher housing we spoke about his experiences with students and aspirations for them. His care and concern for their learning and overall well-being was almost foremost on his mind.
Although we do not work in the same school anymore, my program has enrolled literally hundreds of his former students. They (and thier parents) talk about him with the utmost admiration. In short, he has changed lives. He has taken it upon himself to go that extra mile by mentoring both students and new teachers, His example is the template for excellence in teaching, community member, and citizen. In short, Pete is and has been a life changer for many. And... not just for students, but for staff, teachers and administrators in his district and in others. It is an honor to know him and see his impacts.
When I heard that Pete Daley was nominated for this award it truly made my day!
I worked with Pete at Hutchison High School for 13 years and his dedication not only in welding class, but the entire school. In 2016-17, my daughter took welding classes with Pete and what she has learned from him will help carry her throughout adulthood. Thank you Pete for all you do for these students and our Fairbanks Community. You truly are a LifeChanger
I have known Pete as an educator for many years and he is a person of legendary integrity, skill and a heart for kids. When I was the Delta High School Principal and we were developing a relationship with Hutch, Pete was always willing to assist with program development in any way possible. He gave me numerous tours of the welding shop at Hutch and showcased his students while expressing a willingness to help our own students to become certified welders. Now, while working at the Alaska Gateway SD I have observed that he is now working to assist our students, through our own CTE instructors, to become certified welders. To me, this signifies Pete’s commitment to our youth as he continues to wear many hats and help create a new generation of young adults that will positively contribute to society. Pete is a standout member of the CTE community and is a legendary and integrous Teacher. Pete truly changes students lives for the better!
Patrick Mayer, Superintendent, Alaska Gateway School District
As a fellow high school welding instructor, I’ve seen the positive impact Pete Dayley has on students and Career and Technical Education. He is dedicated to student success, teaching strong welding skills while emphasizing professionalism, work ethic, and pride in craftsmanship. Pete is a strong advocate for CTE and prepares students for careers, apprenticeships, and continued technical education, making a lasting impact beyond the classroom.
Pete is an incredible role model for youth in Faibanks. He was very influential in my son's decision to work in the trades and has continued to mentor him now that he is journeyed out.
Welding was never something I planned on taking for a class, it just so happened to fit into my schedule well and it was a skill that I figured would be nice to have. Looking back on this taking these years with Daley was one of the best choices I’ve made in my life. Mr. Daley taught me that no matter how many mistakes I’ve made in my life there’s no reason to stop trying, and that if I put in the work and effort I can accomplish anything. He’s not only an incredible teacher, but an amazing mentor, and guide to overcoming anything.
Mr. Daley knows that education is never finished and he is always willing to put in the extra work for his students — whether it’s reading a 1000 page book on metallurgy or staying late to guide student projects. With patience and understanding, Mr. Daley is a model educator with a positive attitude and a wealth of knowledge. We all have much to learn from him, both inside the welding shop and as productive members of society.
Pete Daley exemplifies what it means to be an educator who transforms lives and strengthens communities. Over his 23-year career in Alaska—and particularly during his 15 years at Hutchison High School—Mr. Daley has built welding and career-technical education programs that go far beyond teaching technical skills. His approach instills professionalism, safety awareness, and a strong work ethic, ensuring students leave his classroom prepared for success in both career and character.
Mr. Daley’s impact is rooted in innovation and inclusion. He launched a pipe welding academy in partnership with the Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center, giving students hands-on experience with industry-standard equipment and creating a direct pathway to high-demand careers. His founding of the Girls Who Weld summer program demonstrates his commitment to equity, and opening doors for young women.
Mr. Daley’s work reflects passion, vision, and unwavering dedication. His ability to expand access, champion diversity, and strengthen both the workforce and the community makes him not only an outstanding teacher but a true LifeChanger.
Pete Daley is an amazing teacher, very passionate and knowable about what he is teaching and the welding trade itself. He takes the time to show the students and make sure they understand the task that they are doing. Pete’s students are very competent welders when they graduate and ready for the workforce.
My name is Kelly Rentz and I serve as the 2025 Alaska State Teacher of the Year. I was also on the committee that selected Pete as the 2026 Alaska State Teacher of the Year! Pete is one of the most dynamic teachers I’ve had the pleasure of observing! He is passionate, knowledgeable, expects excellence from himself and his students, and is constantly working to improve! He is innovative (His girls’ welding program is a huge hit and makes things that benefit the community!) and kind. Above all, he knows positive relationships with students sets them up for success in every area of their lives. He truly changes lives in his role of teacher, mentor, and advocate!
As the principal of Hutchison High School, I have seen firsthand how Pete Daley, the 2025–2026 Alaska Teacher of the Year, has worked to transform welding and career-technical education while equipping students with advanced skills, professionalism, and confidence. His innovative programs, including the pipe welding academy with the Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center and the Girls Who Weld summer program, have created lasting pathways that benefit our students, industry partners, and the wider Fairbanks community.
Mr Daily, is and will continue to change lives. It takes a special human being with the gift to connect and motivate individuals to learn a trade that could in fact change many lives. Mr Daley is definitely a life changer in my opinion from knowing him for just 3 years.
Being a great teacher takes a delicate balance of skills. You need to be competent in your field of study and also have the ability to engage and entertain a room full of skeptical adolescents. This is a difficult combination to find in most people and Pete is an expert at both skills! He is a certified welding instructor that educates students and teachers alike. Pete inspires me to be a contributing professional to the teaching field and also be a life-long learner. He is constantly working with local and state governments to represent teachers in the area/state and is always working on increasing his credentials. Pete's presence in a room draws attention and he never fails to be enlightening and entertaining. Several students I know personally that attend Hutchison high school cite Pete as someone who has made a significant impact in their lives. He deserves to be recognized!
Pete does an amazing job with the students. His kids go from clueless to competent welders who get high paying jobs right out of high school in the 3 years they are with him!
Pete Daley is the real deal…blessed with talent, an unshakable work ethic and a solid moral compass, Pete has the skill sets to help ANY student in his path to be the best they can be. What more can be asked of an instructor/teacher, and mentor in our education system? … The answer is nothing…Pete Daley is the real deal.

Pete has dedicated his life to providing the highest quality of welding education possible. He continually attends training and obtains certifications from organizations such as the American Welding Society. He has received numerous awards and is recognized for his outstanding dedication to welding education
Pete Daley is a true LifeChanger. He doesn’t just teach welding — he builds confidence, purpose, and pride in his students, opening doors to careers and futures they may never have thought possible. In 2023, I transitioned from being a teacher in Fairbanks to serving as an Alaska State Legislator, and I’ve had the rare privilege of seeing Pete’s impact from both perspectives. I knew him as an exceptional educator who shows up every day for kids, and now I see him walking the halls and offices of the Capitol, advocating just as passionately for students, teachers, and career-technical education. Pete’s commitment doesn’t end when the school day does, and our students, our schools, and our community are better because of him.
I worked with Pete for 15 years and was always impressed with his engagement with the students and the curriculum. I believe that teaching with him also made me a better teacher.
Having a teacher like Mr. Daley in our district is a life changer for many of our students. The training , and knowledge the students receive in his programs is top notch. Students leave his program ready for the work force, with the confidence and knowledge to be successful.
It’s an honor to see Pete come this far. He truly is more than deserving of this award! I worked with Pete Daley for about 9 years and during that time, I don’t recall him ever missing a day, I don’t remember him ever being in a bad mood, and I definitely do not remember him ever not giving his students 110% every day. Pete is probably the best teacher at Hutchison high school and that school should be very lucky to have him. Not only is he an amazing teacher, but he is also just as knowledgeable in his field. He knows just about everything there is to know about welding. Not only does he teach his students how to become the best welders they can be, he also teaches them many life skills. This is one of the things I admired about Pete the most because most teachers forget that these young adults also need guidance. They need a teacher that will show them right from wrong and hold them accountable to better prepare them for the real world. He always talks to his students about being on time and being prepared. If you can’t do these two things, you won’t make it very far at any job let alone welding. Pete is a teacher I wish I had when I attended Hutch as a teenager. He’s someone to look up to. He’s disciplined. He’s a hard worker. He’s got a good head on his shoulders. And he’s far from a push over. Pete is very good about standing up for what is right and isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. In my eyes this is an essential skill to have as you go through life because in order to survive, you have to remain strong. Pete has always been a fighter, he never gives up on whatever he believes in and sticks with it even when times get tough. He is loyal to his mission and not only did I trust him with our students all those years, but I would trust him with my own children as well. If anyone deserves this award, it’s Pete Daley.
I’ve worked with Pete for more than a decade as a teacher at the same school. Pete embodies our mutual midwestern upbringing. He shows up early, stays late, and doesn’t leave until the job is done right. He is dependable, professional, and knowledgeable. He runs a no-nonsense classroom and shop where student expectations are high and all students are given the opportunity to succeed. His pursuit of excellence is demonstrated in his multiple professional certifications, continuing education, and summer school offerings such as his “Girls That Weld” program. Pete is a deserving educator and has put together an incredible program that really stretches beyond the classroom and offers students a pipeline into not just the welding profession, but into an understanding of the deepest aspects of building a career that can support their families.
Pete was a welding student of mine, which is how we met. I will say that Pete is a very focused and meticulous individual. I learned as much or more from Pete than I felt I taught him. He helped me on my journey to becoming a better person as well as a CWI. My words can't express what a wonderful educator and individual that Pete is. Good luck in all your future endeavors.
I have known Pete Daley for a number of years. We have had many conversations about educating the youth. He teaches a skill that can carry a young adult into retirement. He teaches responsibility for safety, the care of the tools and respect for the students self and others in the classroom. He travels to other communities to put on classes. He teaches a class Girls in Welding opening the doors for females to learn new skills. Pete also takes extra classes to continue his own education.
Pete is thoughtful and dedicated. He is always ready to share his knowledge to open doors for our youth’s future. Thank you Pete for what you do.
Mr. Daley is a phenomenal educator. There are many reasons why I believe he should be a recipient of this award. But to keep it brief, he is a fierce advocate of Career and Technical Education (CTE) and strong believer in building school community connections. Mr Daley is always working diligently for his students. Whether it’s with local businesses in Fairbanks, or advocating for students in Juneau, Mr. Daley is there. As a former colleague, I was always impressed with his commitment to making Hutchison High the best school it could be. Mr. Daley was always one of the first educators in the building, preparing for the day. He is committed to being a lifelong learner, constantly enrolling in new courses to improve his instruction. Working with him I will alway appreciate the support he gave me as a young teacher, giving me advice and a listening ear. If I ever had a challenging day he would be glad to have my back. Mr. Daley’s impact is reflected by his students, often sharing stories of how he gave them advice, set them up for success, or dropped everything to help them. Mr. Daley also traveled to Juneau for a full week to advocate for CTE funding, and was one of our most outspoken representatives. If he is not in the classroom or in Juneau, you may find him meeting with or contacting local businesses in an effort to provide his students with opportunities after they graduate. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this award.
I’ve known Pete for over 20 years and have always respected him as an exceptionally knowledgeable and principled Certified Welding Inspector. His command of welding specifications, attention to detail, and integrity in reporting reflect the highest standards of the profession. Pete brings credibility and professionalism to everything he does, and the Industrial welding industry is better because of it.
My brothers Isaak and Ben both took his classes at Hutch, he’s a fantastic teacher!
I’ve known Daley for about 5 years now, and I took his welding classes in high school at Hutch. All from the start, I was magnetized to the welding shop and his classroom because of his straight to the point teaching style and hands-on learning methods.
In the classroom, he took careful attention to plot out assignments in a concise and easy to understand fashion, while instilling valuable trade math skills. In the weld shop, he was an indispensable beacon of wisdom and knowledge for all things welding and fabrication. There was no question that he couldn’t figure out, and no skill that he couldn’t teach, without skipping a beat. I remember the deliberate attention he paid to each student in their individual booths, taking care to ensure that nobody felt alone or lost with their assignments, patiently guiding us with a steady hand to build our confidence and skill set.
Daley would frequently come to us with new opportunities for us to explore - whether it was SkillsUSA, welding certification tests, 2-week union training programs, a welding project to challenge us, or something that a teacher wanted made or repaired - he constantly delivered us opportunities for growth and development.
In my senior year right before graduation, Daley came to me with a job opportunity before I was even out of high school - I joined the local 23 sheet metal union, and now I get to use the same skills that Daley taught me back at hutch, and develop them every day while enjoying all the benefits that this industry has to offer.
Reflecting on all the time I spent learning this trade and where it all began, I have Peter Daley to thank for all of it. For all of my certifications, the first time I picked up an oxy torch, MiG gun or tig torch, shop equipment operation, etc., he was there every step of the way, and I sincerely can’t thank him enough for everything that he’s done for me and many, many other students just like me. I always thought Daley deserved more recognition for his hard work and dedication to preparing the next generation. He should be proud of his accomplishments and the impact that he’s left on so many people, and I can’t think of anyone that deserves this award more than Peter Daley.
Life changer of the year is not enough! Life changer for a generation is more fitting of a title and award. Pete Daley has impacted more people I know than any other teacher. He is not only a teacher but a mentor that has guided countless amount of people from many different walks of life to a path of excellence Including myself. With his constant strive to better himself as well his students, is one of the many things that make him a life changer. I personally experienced it, with out him I wouldn't be where I am today. As a former student of Mr. Daley in the welding program at Hutchison High School, I had the profound privilege of learning under his guidance during my time in his classes. What began as a classroom experience quickly evolved into a lifelong skill that not only launched my career in the trades but paved my way to a promising future. Pete has proven his dedication to the learning and betterment of his students over his years instructing them in a way that gets them fully engaged. Students obtain a lifetime skill while building a confidence in themselves that will carry them throughout their life.
I have known Pete for about ten years now. He invited me into his classroom to share some blacksmithing skills with his students. This illustrates Pete’s commitment to his students. He wants them not just to learn a set script but to explore and investigate the many available paths that their new skills can now lead them. Pete loves to share his knowledge but is very humble and ready to learn more. His passion is want makes him such a great teacher and friend.
Few educators can say their influence is measured not only in classroom success but in the livelihoods their students build the moment they graduate. Pete Daley is one of those rare individuals whose work changes the trajectory of young people’s lives every single year. With a teaching philosophy grounded in skill, safety, and self?confidence, Pete has transformed his program into a launchpad for real careers. Under their guidance, students don’t just learn to weld—they master industry?recognized techniques, earn essential certifications, and develop the professionalism employers look for. Employers seek out graduates from his program because they know they’re getting workers who are trained, reliable, and ready to contribute on day one. Pete is one who gives a young person a skill and direction to gain employment and succeed in life. That is the true measure of a life changer. Way to go Pete!
I've known Pete as a colleague and parent of one of his students for over 10 years. He's one of the best CTE teachers I've ever known. He not only teaches students a trade, he teaches them the expectations and accountability that is expected in the working world after high school. He has also been the driving force behind the district's Girls Who Weld program. He is a great example to his students & an example of what public education should be.
I have known Pete Daley for 20 years as we were both teachers at the same district in Alaska
He has impressed me with his drive and determination to see his students succeed
His passion to improve his teaching for student improvement has paid off many times over
WOW Pete, congratulations on the nomination! I can’t think of anyone more deserving. Your dedication and hard work is truly inspiring! Your students and coworkers are truly lucky to have you!
Pete is a great teacher, colleague, and advocate for education!
The students really appreciate his expertise and all the field trips he arranges. I also had a great time accompanying his class to the mine as an additional chaperone.
One of my favorite things about working with Pete are his book recommendations, or “Pete Daley Book Club” as I like to call it.
Pete is an advocate for education on all levels from the school to local and state levels. He was a driver behind our district wide cellphone ban and has done many other things for education in the state.
Pete’s great!
Pete Daley is a transformative leader whose influence extends far beyond the walls of his classroom. As a tireless advocate for Career and Technical Education (CTE) in Alaska, Pete has frequently walked the halls of the State Capitol, providing lawmakers with firsthand insights into how vocational training changes lives. His ability to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and state policy ensures that students across the state have better access to high-quality career paths. Mr Daley has always been a highly encouraging teacher. I graduated in 2014 and he really shaped me into a fine young man. He always pushed all of his students to be the best they could be and go on into great careers after high school. He is very deserving of this award!
I have known Pete Daley for about 20 years, both as a welder out in the field and as a welding instructor at the Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center. I see a lot of Pete’s students in my classes(Pete is also an instructor there), and one thing I’ve noticed is how much his kids believe in themselves. He motivates them and helps them understand what it takes to succeed in life. He has their admiration and mine as well!
Pete Daley truly exemplifies what it means to be a LifeChanger. I am proud to offer my full support for Mr. Daley’s nomination as a LifeChanger. Alaska is stronger because of educators like him, and his leadership, dedication, and belief in our students make him truly deserving of this recognition.
I met Peter when I became the welding instructor for my local high school. Right away it was clear he had a passion for teaching and everything welding. He made himself available to answer my first year teacher questions, gave our class resources, and spent two days at our school certifying students, but then much to my surprise he gave me study guides for the American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector tests and told me about the Skills USA competitions. When I mentioned I might be out of my depth with all that, he gave me the best encouragement and advice advice for life and work, he said “step it up a notch”.
Pete is one of those remarkable individuals that sees potential and helps students of all ages reach theirs. I am proud to call him my mentor and friend, he’s shown us all what hard work and dedication can do for our careers and community.
Pete is the rising tide that lifts all ships.
As an industry partner in the welding and pipefitting field, I am a strong proponent of Mr. Daley. I have known him for just over seven years, and his knowledge, work ethic, and teaching methods are second to none. While he is an exceptional welding instructor, he also emphasizes critical skills beyond welding, such as trades math, penmanship, punctuality, and other professional habits often overlooked in technical training. These qualities truly set him apart and inspire the young people he teaches and works with. I truly feel that students that have had the pleasure of taking one of Mr. Daley's classes are more prepared to succeed in the industry and be contributing members of our community. Thanks for all you do Pete!
Mr.Daley has been one of my favorites!! He has taught me so much and has given me such good advice, he’s the reason I LOVE welding. I was one of the first girls in the girls who weld summer program and I was taught so much. We started off with basics then in about a month we were making bike racks for the city!
Congratulations Mr.daley! You truly deserve this!
Proud mom here. Pete has always been extremely goal oriented starting with merit badges in Boy Scouts all the way to the present day. His tenacity is still apparent as he gives his all to his students, school, and community. Pete’s natural creativity and adventurous spirit serve him well as he leads his classes doing community projects and also with his travels to conferences and school trips around the world.
I had Mr.Daley as my welding instructor during high school, and his class was one I always looked forward to. He is an amazing teacher, and I just know he has greatly impacted so many students lives in a positive way. I am so grateful to have had him as one of my teachers in my education journey!!
I am lucky to call Pete my brother. I have watched him grow over the years to become who he is today. He is so compassionate about helping his students and goes above and beyond. He has helped so many students throughout the years. He is always getting extra certifications, doing trainings, teaching extra classes, and working longer hours to help his students.
Mr. Daley was my welding teacher in high school. I elected to take his welding and drafting classes my junior and senior years because I saw the value of what he was teaching. His classes helped me realize that welding is my passion and that I wanted to pursue a career in welding and pipe fitting. I am proud to say that I now have a very successful career in the welding and pipe fitting industry and it is all because of Mr. Daley helping me realize what I am good at and what I am passionate about. I would not be where I am today in life and in my career without him. Thank you Mr. Daley and congratulations on all of your awards, nominations, and achievements you have received throughout the years, you deserve them all!

He taught me so much while I was in his class. He's the kind of teacher that helps you find the love for the trades, gives opportunities to get your foot in the door and to help keep your head up so that you can reach your goals. Mr. Daley has certainly made a sizable impact on the lives of his students. Just from being one of his students you will pick up confidence, skills, knowledge, and a solid work ethic. Mr. Daley has also helped the welding industry grow. Many of the students that his program produces can go on to be career pipefitters, iron workers, welders, and fabricators. The students that he produces typically have a considerable jump start in whatever field they choose to peruse.
I cannot think of a better nominee for this award. Congratulations Mr. Daley!
What an amazing honor! I've known Pete for more than 10 years and I'm so thrilled to see him recognized for all he's done for his students and community. As a former student of Pete Daley, I can personally attest to his level of professionalism and dedication that he delivers in the classroom and to his students through focused and engaging learning. His primary role in educating the next generation of trade workers is exceptional, and I would not have entered the work force with as much experience if it were not for Pete's unwavering dedication to have his students find success. For these reasons, I forward the notion that Pete Daley be awarded LifeChanger of the Year. Thank you Pete for your outstanding performance. Best wishes!
Mr. Daley was by far my favorite teacher and had a lasting impact on my life. As my welding instructor, he went beyond simply teaching a trade. I spent as much time as I could in his shop during free periods and after school because it was a place where learning felt meaningful and motivating. He also took the time to help with an after-school welding program, never hesitating to support students who wanted to learn more. He is the kind of teacher who truly cares about his students, their growth, and their future. I graduated about 10 years ago, and we still keep in touch to this day. A great guy and an even better teacher, he made a real difference in my life.
Pete's love for his craft shows through his teaching. Whether it's a trade or life lessons, Pete puts his students first. He is always supporting and encouraging his students to do their best.
Pete worked hard to keep up with his own education, staying up with the latest technologies, and teaching
skills.
In over 30 years of teaching Pete Daley stands out as the.gold standard for all teachers.
Pete was my welding instructor when I was going to school at Hutchison. Not only did he help me apply myself and develop my skills as a welder, but also 12 years after I graduated helped me study for my CWI exams. I will be forever grateful for all of his help and try to continue his legacy by helping out and teaching in the welding industry when I can. Keep it up Pete, you truly are one of a kind.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Pete for a little over a decade. Mr. Daily is a dedicated professional, and his love of both teaching and student success is evident. Pete is committed to student success in not only the classroom but also as a productive member of society.
I am honored to have served as the Fairbanks Education Association President for six years, working with community-minded educators. Thank you, Pete Daily, for being a leader of the professions.
As a former school board member and, more importantly, as a parent of a student who had the privilege of learning from Pete Daley, I can say without hesitation that this recognition is deeply deserved. I have seen firsthand how Pete teaches far more than welding. He teaches young people how to show up, how to work safely and with integrity, how to take responsibility for their craft, and how to believe in their own potential. My child did not just leave Pete’s classroom with technical skills, but with confidence, discipline, and a strong sense of what it means to be a professional and a contributing member of the community. From a governance perspective, educators like Pete are exactly what we hope for—innovative, community-connected, inclusive, and relentlessly focused on student success beyond graduation. From a parent’s perspective, I am simply grateful. Pete Daley changes lives, and Alaska is better for it.
I worked closely with Pete Daley for over 12 years. In that time my respect for him continued to grow exponentially. Pete Daley is the teacher who prepares you for life. Initially his summer employment with various Alaskan pipeline and welding. Businesses allowed him to share real life working and welding experience with his students. He stresses professionalism and doesn’t sugarcoat the challenges of this career field. He is one of the most well red people I’ve ever met in his dedication sharing his knowledge is exceptional. He truly connect students with employers creating a qualified pipeline of professional welders. He has endeavor to reach out and share the importance of career technical education with those in a position to help fund CTE. I truly see Pete Daley as a life changer.
As a former student of Pete Daley, I have personally experienced his professionalism and his unwavering dedication to his students and their future success. I wouldn’t have had the opportunities to enter the work force with as much experience as I did without Pete. So, I thank you Pete and I forward the notion that Pete Daley is an outstanding nominee for this award.
Mr. Daley, in addition to his teaching at Hutchison High School, is also a Certified Welding Instructor that travels around and gives welding certification tests. Mr. Daley has traveled to Tok, Alaska to perform certification tests to my students at Tok School. it is a two-day experience in which on the first day, Mr. Daley works with the students showing them what he expects the next day with the certification test. As long as there is a student wanting his input, Mr. Daley stays and works with them. Sounds like a good teacher, most definitely, but the thing that sets Mr. Daley apart from just being a teacher is that he makes each student, male or female, feel like they are the most important person at that moment in time. On day two, as he is administering the certification test, he is also working with the students giving constant feedback. He is there to administer a certification test, but more importantly, he is there working with young adults.
I have been a teacher for 40 years and have been welding for more than 40 years. As I watch Mr. Daley work with my students, I pick up new strategies to use when working with students as well as welding tips.
Pete Daley truly is a life changer and should be "Life Changer of the Year"!
What a fantastic human that makes our community better with every child he teaches!
Pete is a great guy and real. What you see is what you get. He is great with kids and does a great job of teaching them. So many kids have gone into the welding field because of him.
Pete is an incredibly motivated educator, passionate about both teaching and lifelong learning. He goes beyond the textbook, instilling valuable life lessons that empower his students to achieve lasting success. Pete is an invaluable asset in anyone’s toolkit—simply harness his expertise, and watch the transformation unfold. He’s a true contender for Life Changer of the Year!
I have known Peter my entire life. As his sister, I couldn't be more proud. This nomination is well deserved. You have taken it upon yourself to continue to learn and you inspire others to do the same. Your hard work and dedication is evident. I am so glad the world gets to witness you shine! We all love you so much and are so proud of you!
I had the privilege of working with Pete years ago. His knowledge of welding and related topics is extensive. He is a master of his craft; a true subject matter expert, a metallurgical guru some may say. His love and dedication for uplifting students to success is unmatched. I’ve seen it first hand. It was a pleasure to watch and be part of Pete’s mentorship. His experience helped mold my teaching strategies and improve my program over the time I was there. His decades long commitment to the education of youth in Fairbanks can be measured by the journeyman tradesmen/women that blanket the largest state in the union. To say he is deserving is an understatement. Cheers to you Pete! I’m honored to call you a friend and colleague.
Mr. Daley is a great contribution to the teaching community and have seen him contribute his own personal time too help other pursue they’re careers. He has an amazing way of helping kids that need that kickstart in life to make a great living and an even better learning experience for everyone around them.
Teachers and coaches inspire us because they see something we can’t yet see in ourselves. Pete doesn’t just say it, he shows them, by believing in them, by reaching students who might not consider the subject matter on their own.
Pete’s dedication to his students, his own desire to stay informed and do his job at the highest level has no doubt inspired a multitude of young people to embrace hard things and build Alaska. He’s a credit to teachers, the district and Alaska. I count myself lucky to have worked with him.
Mr. Daley was by far my favorite teacher and had a lasting impact on my life. As my welding instructor, he went far beyond simply teaching a trade. I spent as much time as I could in his shop during free periods and after school because it was a place where learning felt meaningful and motivating. He also took the time to help with an after-school welding class, never hesitating to support students who wanted to learn more. He is the kind of teacher who truly cares about his students, their growth, and their future. I graduated about 10 years ago, and we still keep in touch to this day. A great guy and an even better teacher, he made a real difference in my life.
Pete has consistently demonstrated the professional characteristics a Fairbanks North Star Borough School District educator should possess when working in a technical training setting. He is a Certified Welding Inspector that also holds a Masters Degree in Education who is ambitious, safe, motivated, hard-working, and always patient with students who struggle learning content matter.
I have known Pete throughout all of his many years of working at James T. Hutchison High School and witnessed the tenacity, vigor and high standards he holds his students to. His classroom and shop setting are professionally aligned and outcomes are clearly defined. Because of this, Pete excels in his area of expertise, the successful training and certification of Alaskan Welders. Without question, his achievements and graduates are visible not just in Fairbanks but all over the State of Alaska.
I’ve had the great and amazing opportunity to be Mr. Daley’s supervisor at Hutchison High School Career Center. He has shown great consideration for student safety and learning. He has the level of confidence to manage all students within his programs. He’s a very passionate, professional educator that is always on time and willing to work hard and focus on students success. Students enjoy his class and gain a lot of knowledge from his teachings. Thank you!
Mr. Pete Daley
Mr. Daley was always engaging and you could tell how much he cared for his students each class! I’m sure anyone who has interacted with Daley has nothing but positive things to say of him and his teachings.
I’ve been a proud friend of Pete’s since we were about 4 years old. And boy does that guy know how to work hard and accomplish what he sets his mind and heart to. It’s also difficult to think of someone who has exemplified as much grit throughout their life as Pete has. The fact that he has been developing students into model contributors to the workforce and their community only validates to me what he was put on this earth to do…to inspire the next generation, lead by example and with enthusiasm, and pave the way for those that follow who wouldn’t otherwise have had a path forward. He’s a life-long learner with a passion to teach and pay forward the knowledge he’s acquired. Changing lives is not only something Pete has done and continues to do, but it’s in his nature and is finally receiving the light and attention it was always meant to. I couldn’t be prouder of Pete and the legacy he is leaving of lives changed for the better through his love and influence.
I've known Pete almost my entire life. In fact, 42 years ago we became best friends in Kindergarten. I knew Pete when we were little deviants and were thorns in our parents' and teachers' sides.
But unlike some of us, Pete developed an amazing ability to self-develope and become, almost literally, a self-made man.
Growing up in a very small, extremely rural community in Northern Minnesota, we weren't afforded many opportunities for success. You really had to search those opportunities out yourself.
I am extremely proud of my friend. Also, I consider his students extremely lucky to be able to learn from Pete, not only about welding, but about life and self-reliance.
Congratulations, Mr. Daley!
Well Done Pete!
Mr Daley is an integral part of the Hutchison High School and the Fairbanks community. He not only supports students by connecting them to industry, but he is also a strong advocate for CTE throughout our state and Nationwide. He's traveled not only to our state capital, but to our nation's capital as well. To advocate for career technical education for all. I strongly support Pete Daley as a lifeChanger!
This nomination is well deserved. As a fellow welding instructor, Pete has mentored me as I seek to train students in this field. I am thankful for his impact on my students and I!
Pete has been in my
life since I was 2. He stepped into the role of my father. Pete is a firm believer in education and he taught me how to work towards my goals from a young age. I am proud to call him my mentor through life. Pete has always shown up when I needed him. I am proud to say I am also perusing a career in education because he has shown me how an educator can change someone’s life. Although I was not one of his students I did attend the highschool he teaches at. Seeing him interacting with students is one of the huge reasons I want to pursue a career in education. His students show an immense amount of respect and you can tell the students love the craft he teaches. Pete has opened so many doors and opportunities for students in our community by giving them high quality education. It is a great honor to call him my parent but also a mentor.
Congratulations Pete! Thank you for your service to CTE and the Alaska community. Looking forward to continuing our education partnership at the mine to help students find opportunities post graduation!
Peter is an active member of the American Welding Society, locally and on the National Education Committee. He helps kids outside school hours by volunteering to teach skills, host free summer programs, and mentor young people. He supports the kids who need more help as much as challenging the ones who excel naturally. His aim is to make sure they all have fulfilling, productive careers. We fully support Peter and any way he can help young people!
I’ve worked with Pete for over ten years and in that time he has done more to serve under represented students at our school than any other teacher. His girls welding class in the month of June brings in girls to his program and the welding and pipe fitting career. His knowledge of the oil industry opens doors for students to pursue life changing careers, which they do.
If any of the massive infrastructure projects that America is set to take on in the coming years are going to work the world is going to need more teachers like Pete Daley who is truly training the next great American workforce.
Pete Daley is the type of teacher we all want our children to have. He is not only dedicated to the craft, but also to the students he teaches. He is always looking to better himself and encourages his colleagues to do the same. There is no one more desiring of being recognized for his incredible skills, ethics, hard work, and love of students than Pete. Congratulations!!!!
Congratulations Pete! You are so deserving of this award. You not only change the lives of your students by preparing them in all ways to thrive personally and professionally, but you help our entire community by building the future of Alaska's economy through your CTE programs.
This is a huge honor. I have been inspiring students and launching them into meaningful careers for 24 years now. I take this responsibility seriously and deem it a privilege. Thank you for everyone’s support.
Congratulations Pete as your aunt I am very proud of all the accomplishments that you have done in your 23 years of teaching you are a leader and I’m sure you have changed the lives of many of your students at your school
