Ms. Miller is a lifelong member of the New Haven Public Schools community as a teacher, parent, and proud alumna. She's now entering her 18th year in the classroom and her tenth year at Metropolitan Business Academy. She has built a career dedicated to antiracist education, project-based learning, and the belief that young people can and should be active contributors to their communities. Her goal is to help students become informed, engaged, and empowered individuals who understand their ability to create meaningful change.

As a social studies teacher in the Academy of Law, Leadership, and Political Science, Ms. Miller co-designed and co-teaches Youth Justice in Practice. This innovative capstone course is for seniors in the law pathway and is rooted in restorative and transformative justice. The course equips students to run the Metro Youth Justice Panel, a student-led initiative focused on repairing harm, encouraging accountability, and supporting peers who make mistakes. This program has become a model for how schools can leverage student leadership to build a healthier, more supportive school culture.

Ms. Miller's contributions extend beyond her own classroom. She helped launch a districtwide Grow Your Own initiative to cultivate the next generation of educators in New Haven Public Schools. Over the past two years, she has played a key role in developing the new Education and Leadership Pathway, which encourages students to explore teaching, leadership, and public service as meaningful career paths. Because of her commitment to justice-centered teaching, creation of innovative programs, and leadership in shaping future educators, Ms. Miller was named the 2025 Connecticut Teacher of the Year.
