Music that Describes Lynn

Lynn Jamieson was nominated by a friend, Melissa Northway.

Ms. Jamieson is an exceptional educator whose unwavering dedication, compassion, and professionalism have transformed the lives of countless students, colleagues, and families within the Gresham-Barlow School District. Ms. Jamieson currently teaches Emergent Multilingual Learners (EML) in grades K-5 at East Gresham Elementary School. Most recently, she was honored with the district's "What's Going Well!" Award, recognizing her extraordinary work ethic and her ability to inspire both students and fellow educators. Colleagues consistently note that Ms. Jamieson exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism and brings an infectious positivity to her work every single day.

"I have known Lynne for over 30 years, both personally and professionally. She has always been a ray of sunshine—steady, kind, patient, and deeply committed to uplifting others. Years ago, when she shared her decision to pursue her teaching credential in her late 30s, I knew instantly she had found her calling. That decision has proven to be life-changing not only for her but for every child who has had the privilege of learning under her guidance," said Northway.

"Earlier in our careers, Lynne and I taught ESL in Japan after college. Even then, her remarkable patience and empathy stood out. She instinctively created environments where students felt safe taking risks, making mistakes, and growing in confidence. Today, she brings that same approach to her classroom—ensuring that multilingual learners feel valued, capable, and successful as they navigate the challenges of learning English," said Northway.

What truly distinguishes Ms. Jamieson is her ability to balance academic rigor with emotional safety. She creates classrooms where students are encouraged to strive for English fluency while also being celebrated for their native languages, cultures, and identities. Her students learn not only language skills, but self-confidence and pride in who they are. Beyond her direct work with students, Ms. Jamieson is a collaborative leader within her school. She works closely with classroom teachers to plan instruction, align curriculum goals, and design classroom strategies that support multilingual learners throughout the school year. Her impact extends well beyond her own classroom, strengthening the overall educational experience for students across grade levels.

East Gresham Elementary serves a community where 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch, and approximately 2/3 of students are economically disadvantaged. Despite these challenges, the school's educators are deeply committed to providing exceptional education and support. Ms. Jamieson is a cornerstone of that mission. Her work helps ensure equity, access, and opportunity for some of the district's most vulnerable learners.

"Ms. Jamieson is the embodiment of a LifeChanger. Her career is defined by service, resilience, compassion, and a belief in the limitless potential of every child. Honoring Lynne and East Gresham Elementary School with this award would not only recognize her extraordinary contributions but also shine a well-deserved spotlight on a school community dedicated to lifting students and families through education," said Northway.
