Music that Describes Jenetta

Jenetta Hockless was nominated by her colleague of 10 years, Briggette Jordan.

"Jenetta demonstrates what it means to be a LifeChanger on a daily basis," said Jordan. "As well as teaching together, we're also church members. Prior to the 2017-2018 school year, we worked together at Mesquite High School. Janetta worked with our English Second Language (ESL) students and did a magnificent job. She went above and beyond to ensure that her students learn the curriculum by staying late to tutor, as well as keeping an open dialogue with parents, students, peers and administration."

Mesquite High School was a Title I school with a low socio-economic population, so Ms. Hockless took care of several students’ personal needs. This would include purchasing clothes, food, supplies or whatever the students needed to assist them with being successful. She believed in Maslow's hierarchy of needs by ensuring the students' physiological needs were met. That way, the students would be able to concentrate of their academic needs.

Ms. Hockless stays after school for tutoring daily and provides academic assistance pizza for students who attend. In her current position, she works with special education students as well as General Education students. She is known as the teacher with high expectations and with great follow-through.

Ms. Hockless also teaches Sunday School at Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church.  For several years, she and her family have donated to families in need instead of exchanging personal Christmas gifts.

"There was a family attending our school who were unable to buy food or presents for the Christmas holidays. Jenetta contributed funds along with another teacher to provide food and a present for the student," said Jordan. "This is just one reason why she is a LifeChanger in our community!"

Thank You! Mrs. Hockless is one of the most self-less people I know. As colleagues, I was blessed to work with Mrs. Hockless. She was always encouraging, a great listener, and just the most kind-hearted person I know. Always giving, always taking the high road, and giving God the glory. It was a pleasure to serve in a building enhanced by your effervescent spirit. Much Love to you!

Mrs. Hockless is a Life Changer. She invests in relationships with kids and cares as much, if not more about them as a human, than the content she teaches. High expectations with firm loving guidance sets her apart.

This doesn't surprise me one bit, Mrs. Hockless! Always was a pleasure working with you back when you were at MHS! You were more than just a colleague. You were a great friend who always took the time before school started to ask me how my weekend was. You genuinely care about people and your students are soo lucky to have a teacher like you in their lives!
