Music that Describes Jenetta
Jenetta Hockless was nominated by her colleague of 10 years, Briggette Jordan.
"Jenetta demonstrates what it means to be a LifeChanger on a daily basis," said Jordan. "As well as teaching together, we're also church members. Prior to the 2017-2018 school year, we worked together at Mesquite High School. Janetta worked with our English Second Language (ESL) students and did a magnificent job. She went above and beyond to ensure that her students learn the curriculum by staying late to tutor, as well as keeping an open dialogue with parents, students, peers and administration."
Mesquite High School was a Title I school with a low socio-economic population, so Ms. Hockless took care of several students’ personal needs. This would include purchasing clothes, food, supplies or whatever the students needed to assist them with being successful. She believed in Maslow's hierarchy of needs by ensuring the students' physiological needs were met. That way, the students would be able to concentrate of their academic needs.
Ms. Hockless stays after school for tutoring daily and provides academic assistance pizza for students who attend. In her current position, she works with special education students as well as General Education students. She is known as the teacher with high expectations and with great follow-through.
Ms. Hockless also teaches Sunday School at Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church. For several years, she and her family have donated to families in need instead of exchanging personal Christmas gifts.
"There was a family attending our school who were unable to buy food or presents for the Christmas holidays. Jenetta contributed funds along with another teacher to provide food and a present for the student," said Jordan. "This is just one reason why she is a LifeChanger in our community!"
