Shannon Griffith was nominated by Sherlyn Halloran, a member of the community.

As an amazing single mother of two, Ms. Griffith puts her all into everything she does. She was born in the Midwest, but has spent most of her adult life in Arizona. She attended The College of Charleston in South Carolina and earned her Bachelor's degree in elementary education.

Ms. Griffith has been teaching for Cave Creek Unified School District since 2001, and she loves her school. Her passion is teaching social studies and English to quirky middle schoolers. It takes a special person to teach middle schoolers! She spends countless hours before and after school working with both students and colleagues. When she is not sharing her love of learning, she spends her time hiking, traveling, reading, exploring new places in the area, and making memories with her own two children. Her goal is to make sure her students and children not only grow up in a healthy, structured environment, but play an active part in the local community, as well.

Outside of teaching, Ms. Griffith is a real estate agent for additional income. She also participates in the following extracurricular roles:

  • She is a member of the Tech Cadre Leadership team, helping teachers to integrate technology and give students more “ownership” of tools they can use to show off their learning.
  • She is a member of the Personalized Learning (PL) Committee. This group brings PL to life for teachers to integrate in their classrooms, allowing students to have more one-on-one opportunities with their teachers and take more ownership of their learning.
  • Ms. Griffith is the Veterans Heritage Project Advisor, connecting students with local community Veterans in order to share the Vets’ stories in a published book and their recorded interviews with The Library of Congress.
  • She is a member of the Teaming Planning Committee, which is bringing the teaming concept back to her school and moderates the teaming during the school year.
  • Finally, she is a certified Google Classroom guru.

"I have seen Shannon in action," said Halloran. "She exemplifies a true dedicated educator with excellence in the tireless hours she gives to her students, teachers, school and local community. She never asks for anything in return. Her wish list may consists of new books for her students in her English classes to read. She is changing the world, one student at a time."

I would agree that Ms.Griffith is a life changer. She made the dreaded middle school years a fun experience for my son and I can’t wait for my daughter to be in her class as well. She is a great person all around and advocate for teachers and students!

Ms. Griffith is my 7th grade Social Studies teacher. She is a very good teacher and helps us prepare for tests by making it fun. I loved the escape room she did for the unit Imperialism. She is kind and helpful and cares about everyone she meets. Social Studies is very interesting with Ms. Griffith. I am also lucky to see her in Builder's Club and Track and Field after school. She is very energetic and full of happiness. I am excited to enter her classroom everyday!

Kristin Steward Posted over a year ago

To have a daughter's teacher come up in conversation five years after being fortunate enough to be in her classroom is to know her teacher is a "life changer". Shannon Griffith is that teacher! She inspires middle school students to bring their best to class every day. Not an easy feat! Her passion, her care, and her ability to make each student feel like they are the most important person in the room is her gift. How lucky we are that she continues to guide young lives in Cave Creek every day! I am positive our house is not the only house that hears her name long after middle school is complete!

My daughter was new to the school and had Ms. Griffith. She was the best thing to happen for my daughter. So kind, compassionate, caring and just all around fun teacher. Really helps to have someone who loves her job and is so passionate about what she does in MS transition years. She has stayed in touch and still supports my daughter to this day. She is one of my daughters and my favorite teachers of all time. Totally deserving of this honor!!!

Inspiring! She encourages her students to not just succeed, but to achieve to be the best they can be. She believes in each student that they are capable to be better in and outside of school. She encourages students and their families to volunteer and give back. We are so grateful that she has come into our lives and our daughter has come into her classroom. She is a true "life changer"!

Ms. Griffith is a great teacher, she does more than teach she make students truly understand their subject. Ms Griffith has been my teacher for a half year and in that time I have learned so much from her, more than I ever have from prior teachers. Ms.Griffith is the teacher I and many of the other students at my school go to when they have a question about school, homework, ect.

Ava Frigard Posted over a year ago

Mrs. Griffith is the best teacher ever. Every morning when I see her she makes me smile to see her. We learn a lot in her class and it is really fun! She helped me get comfortable middle school. She works super hard and she really deserves to win. She's amazing!!!

Shannon is truly a life changer. I had the incredible opportunity of spending my senior residency with Shannon as my mentor teacher as I completed teachers college. I started learning under Shannon just a couple months after my mother passed away. During that difficult “first year” Shannon was so much more than a mentor teacher. She inspired me with her grit, passion, love for teaching, and care for her students. She always showed up with a smile and determined attitude. She taught me so much professionally but possibly even more as a friend. As we grew as friends I realized that Shannon was one of those rare people who could be going through her own “stuff” and still gracefully walk through it all while pouring into others and especially her students. Any student who sits in Shannon’s classroom walks away knowing she truly cares about them and she is one of the most inspiring middle school teachers I’ve ever met. Through some of life’s lowest moments and also some of the happiest, Shannon is someone I know I can turn to for wisdom and advice as a colleague and a friend. She is more than deserving of being chosen as a “Life Changer of the Year”.

Dear Mom, I am so grateful to have you as my mom and you are more than just a great mom. You’re a great person. You’ve done more than just help me with homework assignments. You’ve helped me find books I love to read and study for tests. I’m glad that lots of students like you as a teacher and that you were nominated for this award because you deserve it. I love you. Love, Lincoln

Shannon is an amazing teacher. My son had Shannon for two years in her English class. He struggled in school due to a learning disability and often felt frustrated and defeated. The only class he said he didn’t feel this way was in Shannon’s class. She was patient, kind and positive with Max. He is now a Junior and has done great in every English class he has taken in HS. We know this is because of Shannon’s hard work with Max. He often talks about what a great teacher is and we are excited that our younger son will hopefully have her in middle school too!! Thanks for everything Shannon! You’re amazing!

Kendra Frigard Posted over a year ago

Shannon is one of the best teachers we could have ever asked for. As my daughter started her first year in middle school, Shannon made the transition for her easy. Shannon is teaching our kids to be mindful of the world around them as she prepares them to go out into it. My daughter has said on many occasions that Shannon is her favorite teacher. I can see that she has made an incredible impact on her students and we really appreciate everything she has done for them. Shannon - you are AMAZING!

Makenna Gibson Posted over a year ago

She is not only my teacher for class but someone I can always talk to on campus when I’m not having a great day. I know she will listen. She came and showed her support for a student outside of school. She came with her daughter to my Nutcracker dance performance. It meant a lot to me and my family. I look forward to social studies everyday just so I can say hello!

Shannon is the most selfless teacher, coworker, mentor and friend. Throughout my career I have experienced many leaders, but none have affected my life as much as Shannon has.

Nina Leonard Posted over a year ago

Mrs. Griffith was my 8th grade English teacher, and I still remember how much fun I had in her class being a freshman at ASU now. She was one of my favorite teachers that I would come home and tell my mom about and everything she taught me that day! I still see her occasionally through work, and she never fails to bring the biggest smile to my face. If every teacher was like Mrs. Griffith, every student would be excited to go to school every day:) she deserves this more than ANYONE!

I had the good fortune to work with Shannon when I was interviewed for the Veterans Heritage project. Her dedication to the program and Vets was apparent from the get go. STMS is lucky to have her as a teacher.

Rebecca Karlin Posted over a year ago

We love MS Griffith. Both of my older children had her for 7th grade English. She taught them things that they still refer too. She is the type of teacher that goes the extra mile for her students. We are lucky that both kids had her and we consider her a friend.

I have had the privilege of working with Shannon for her entire career in Cave Creek Schools. She is an excellent teacher and inspirational mentor for our new teachers. Shannon has two amazing children and I was lucky enough to serve as their elementary principal. Shannon’s mom is a great support for our schools too. Thank you Shannon for all you mean to CCUSD.

Shannon taught both my daughters and is a former teacher colleague of mine in the Cave Creek District. Not only is she a dedicated and talented teacher, but she is also a very caring and compassionate person who truly loves all of her students. You just have to read what former parents and students say on her Facebook posts to know how well-thought of she is in the Cave Creek Community. Her dedication and compassion reaches far beyond the classroom walls. Shannon is so deserving of this recognition!

Amanda Long Posted over a year ago

I have known Shannon since I was a student of hers in 2001. Now 19 years later I’m still just as connected with her as I was being in her class. She’s one of the most amazing human beings I’ve been lucky enough to have in my life. Shannon has so much love and compassion that it is unmeasurable. There are so many former students, current students, friends and co-workers that would say Shannon is definitely deserving of this recognition. People in life would say that they are so lucky to have crossed paths with Shannon in one form or another.

Ms. Griffith is an outstanding teacher. She was my older daughters teacher a few years ago & we loved her. I’m bummed my youngest didn’t get her this year.

Kelly Love Posted over a year ago

Shannon has been so kind and welcoming since my first day on campus. She is one of the teachers that always has a smile on her face and a positive attitude. She is really funny and has gone out of her way to make sure I feel included here at Sonoran Trails Middle School by inviting me to her workout group, extending invitations to social gatherings, and always asking me how I am doing and letting me know she is happy that I am part of the stinger family. I look forward to working with Shannon and getting to know her even more. She is amazing and I can see why she is so beloved at STMS.

Kendall Sokal Posted over a year ago

Ms.Griffith is the best teacher I have ever had. She is makes class so fun. I know that I learn so much last year with her as my 7th grade English teacher with out her I would have never been able to learn so may new things for example I learn how to make a great I am poem. I would have to say she is by far my favorite teacher no one else has gone the lengths to help us learn like she has. She is always there to talk to me and help me with school and at home stuff. She always greets me with a help in the mornings when I enter the school. She is always the first one to ask me about my performances and when and what I am doing it them. I love Ms. Griffith for everything she does to help me. So I am very happy that she was able to be nominated. And I can’t wait to share this with all of my friends and her former students.

Nicholas Delgado Posted over a year ago

Shannon is the kind of teacher every child hopes for. I still remember my older brother's relief and elation when I told him she would be teaching my Social Studies class. I very quickly understood why my brother regarded her so highly. To be met each day with a huge smile and a heart full of compassion is something many people go without. Looking back, it feels like Shannon made a conscious decision to make sure none of her students ever did. If she ever suffered struggles or frustrations, from teaching or elsewhere, none of us kids were ever the wiser. She is simply that good. I didn't have friends in my Social Studies class, but for reasons I didn't understand at the time that never mattered when I entered her classroom, or even as I made my way there. She ignited my lifelong interest in Social Studies and history and showed me how influential a teacher could be. I feel she is an exemplary educator, and I am not surprised in the slightest to see that so many of her fellow teachers and faculty feel the same way. She truly deserves this award.

Leslye Garner Posted over a year ago

Shannon is more than a teacher of students. She is a teacher of teachers and continually mentors officially and unofficially. Even though I am quite literally old enough to be her mother, she was my unofficial mentor and inspiration as a middle school teacher. I learned many things from Shannon about incorporating Language arts into all subjects, about differentiation and about compassion. I am also honored to say I am a community member and parent of former student, so I have known Shannon from many roles. Her strength, her kindness, her passion are part of every role she has. Most importantly, she is always her best self. Shannon has changed the life of many and greatly deserves this honor.

Jene Lindstrom Posted over a year ago

I have worked with Shannon for the past three years and one thing I can say is when you ask for help Shannon is right there. And she will follow up to be sure that the problem is solved - she is our school "problem solver" - she is awesome to work with, always with a sunny disposition!

Jill McLyn Posted over a year ago

Shannon is a great teacher because she makes learning fun, makes connections with her kids and truly cares about the profession. I’ve worked with Shannon for over a decade. She is a great colleague and friend. I should also add that she volunteers her time as a CCEA site rep. Just another thing she does to show how much she is dedicated to the profession!

Jennifer Rinkes Posted over a year ago

Shannon Griffith is the epitome of a life changer. Whether it’s the way she influences her peers, students or even parents of students, she is always offering her time, thoughts, and energy. As a teacher, Shannon expects nothing but the best of her students and she inspires them to work hard, to make good choices and to be their best selves. As a peer, she sets an example of what a teacher should be. She is constantly learning, she works hard to plan fun lessons, she’s always looking for ways to perfect her craft and helps/inspires others to do the same. I am honored to be Shannon’s teammate and can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award.

Nancy Fulkerson Posted over a year ago

I was lucky to work with Shannon my first year teaching. She was such a great mentor and role model. Students loved her mainly because she was so caring and created a classroom full of new opportunities for hands on learning. Unfortunately, because of budgeting issues, I was laid off. It was very difficult for me as a young, new teacher. She had the students write notes to me on index cards and created a fun box to put them in. Not only was she a single mother, raising two children of her own, successfully running classrooms full of 7th grade English students, but she had also taken the time to do something like this for a coworker? That’s the kind of person Shannon is! I was lucky to have worked with someone like her.

Skye Cooper Posted over a year ago

As a former student of Ms. Griffith and now a teacher myself, I believe she is beyond deserving of this recognition. Ms. Griffith puts her heart into teaching and makes it known to her students how much she loves them and wants them to succeed. She showed me what it means to be a teacher that makes a difference in the lives of their students and is still to this day a role model to me! Teachers like her are the reason I joined the profession!

Ms Griffith is an excellent teacher. Not only is she passionate about teaching but she makes a personal connection with the students. Both of my kids looked forward to her class. The bar was set high in her class and her students were prepared for high school. One HS teacher asked the class if they had Ms Griffith and those that raised their hands were allowed to move on with the assignment while the others were given a lesson in annotating. We are lucky to have Ms Griffith in our district.

Mrs. Griffith taught both my brother and I and is without a doubt the best teacher either of us had in our ENTIRE education at CCUSD. As a pillar of the community I have seen her at countless events including funerals of her past students to offer support. For myself she helped gather items from her class and others for a charity I was working. Throughout the years we’ve stayed in contact and has supported me with kind words of encouragement both good times and bad. I don’t think the entire town of Cave Creek would be the same without her certainly CCUSD. I am very fortunate and thankful to have had her as an educator and mentor!

I was privileged to be able to hire Shannon Griffith early in her career and it has been a pleasure to watch her grow not only in her professional skills but also, and more importantly, in her passion for supporting each of her students both in their academic achievement and in their emotional and social skills. Shannon is one of those special teachers who is able to balance the academic needs of her students with their personal needs. She builds strong relationships with their parents and collaborates with them in order to serve their children. Shannon also understands the importance of collaboration with all members in a school community in order to most effectively serve all members of the student body. That is one of her many strengths. It would be hard to count the number of students whose lives she has touched, whose efforts she has encouraged and whose progress she has celebrated. she is an extraordinary teacher and I strongly support and recommend her for the Life Changer award! A perfect recipient without a doubt!

I have had the pleasure and privilege of working with Shannon for many, many years (I won't say how many....but it's a bunch!). In all that time, Shannon's professionalism and acumen has been inspirational. She is a superior teacher-leader, especially when it comes to helping our staff with technology and innovative instructional methods. Both Shannon and I have been co-sponsors for the Veterans Heritage Project for several years, now. She is incredibly motivating to our student members and she is both sensitive and mindful of the importance of getting our veterans stories recorded. It is thrilling to see Shannon nominated for the Life Changer of the Year Award. I can think of no one better to represent what that award stands for.

Shannon is an amazing educator, mother, and community leader. Her passion to help others is second to none. I’ve known Shannon a number of years now and I’m amazed at her ability to make time for others while being a single mom on a teacher’s income. The Cave Creek community is very blessed to have this woman leading their kids.

Shannon Griffith was my teacher starting in 2004. She always was there for me then and still is now. I got myself into a lot of trouble after middle school and ultimately ended up spending a decade in prison. My middle school teacher may not know it, but she is a huge reason I’m not adding to recidivism rates now. It’s now been over 15 years since I sat in her classroom yet she’s still making a impact. Please choose this more than deserving single mom!
