Anna Savino was nominated by her colleague, Maria Schembri.

Ms. Savino is an inclusive English teacher, mentor, friend, and curriculum specialist. She has taught for sixteen years throughout the state of California. During this time, she has been a LifeChanger for many students and peers.

Ms. Savino attended Cal State Fullerton, where she received her B.S. in Child and Adolescent Development. Then, she went to National University and earned her Masters of Education in Cross-Cultural Teaching. Originally, she became a teacher because she did not fit into the standard educational mold. She wanted to help students like herself thrive while learning in their unique ways. She has a deep understanding of the multiple intelligences, and she knows how to scaffold and reach all students.

Ms. Savino is constantly attending professional development workshops. She integrates restorative practices daily, and her room is a place where students love to go. Her classroom environment is colorful, lively and energetic. Students feel safe to be vulnerable and open to learning because she treats them with respect and love. She often incorporates movement, theater and music. She has her students perform many of the texts, and she has hosted karaoke parties after school in her classroom to celebrate her students and make learning fun. In addition, Ms. Savino was recently chosen by WeWork to have her classroom remodeled. The students chose the designs and participated in all steps of the remodel.

One of her students has taken her lessons to the next level. She inspired him and helped him author three books, including Change The World. He also has a TED Talk, and she attends and supports all of his events. She helps him network and find events to participate in that promote his creative ideas related to making the world a better place.

Ms. Savino actively participates in professional development opportunities, including Teaching with a SMILE and Say Cheese! An Artisan Approach to Education. She is a teacher induction mentor and attends multiple trainings with her mentees. She is also a Guide Teacher for SDSU and an ELD curriculum specialist for her district.

Ms. Savino also has multiple personal blogs and projects. The Grow Home Together Project helps adults heal from their past traumas. Well-Cultured Perspectives is a site she created where she posts blogs and discussion forums. This site helps people share perspectives with one another related to topics that help people grow emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically. Her topics include bridging the gender gap and becoming well-cultured. She has also volunteered at her church for many years and has helped many people through her service.

"Anna is an incredible human being and LifeChanger. All that know her are better as a result of the experience," said Schembri.

It has been my pleasure to work with Anna for the past 2+ years at Olympian High School. Anna's passion, enthusiasm, and sincere devotion to her students is evident in all that she does! She often goes way above and beyond for her students and it is greatly appreciated, not only by those students and their parents, but also by her colleagues, her administration, and the Olympian community. She truly makes every student feel special, cared for, and they believe that can and will be anything they put their minds too. She is the epitome of what comes from hard work, determination, and never giving up, even through tough times. I am honored to work with her and we are blessed to have her on staff at our school. This nomination is well-deserved...go Anna!! :)

Ever since Anna started teaching, she has shown a passion for doing and being the best, not for her own glorification, but because she just cares so deeply for her students. When we get together as family, she always has a new, super creative idea of how she is going to educate and love on her students. As an educator myself, it thrills my heart to see that she never settles for "good enough" and her creativity mixed with her unique sense of humor and unforgettable snort-laugh make her that unforgettable crazy teacher that you know loves you. She even extends this outside of the classroom by doing all sorts of extracurricular activities to further support and cheer on her students. She's definitely one of the ones out there changing lives, and probably not realizing just how many she has changed. :)

When I think of people that could be called "LifeChanger" Anna is one of the few people that come to mind. I would absolutely not be the individual I am today if Anna had not inspired, encouraged, and believed in me the way that she did. Everyone, every student, needs someone like Anna at some point in their life. It is because of her I discovered my passion for writing and poetry. I can say one thing that can sum up just how much Anna changed my life: I want to be a teacher so that I can be the person Anna was for me for someone else. Congratulations, Anna, you truly are deserving of this nomination! Shine on!

It is both a blessing and a privilege to be your colleague and classroom neighbor. As we both struggle with similar issues outside of work, you consistently inspire me to stay positive and just keep going. Thanks for all the snacks. God Bless.
