Misty Abercrombie was nominated by an anonymous student.

"In the middle of junior year, I wanted to give up...I was determined that I was not going to amount to anything, and that no one would see my value," said her nominator. "I had given up on myself and everything around me. It got to the point where my friends said I needed to go to counseling so they could help me, but I didn't feel ready to talk to them. My friend said I should sit in Ms. Abercrombie's class with them because she's really nice and always there to give advice."

"Since that day, I honestly believe I found my second mom," said her nominator. "Ms. Abercrombie was there for me at my lowest. She helped me to stay on the right path, and she instilled in me that there was value in me. She didn't do this only for me, but for every student she came in contact with. No matter what a student would do and or say, she never gave up on us. She supported us in everything we did, from school sports to church baptism. Overall, she is amazing, and she stops at nothing to make sure all students are okay."

Misty is our first child and was first I think because, she had the most to get accomplished in her life. From an early age, she adopted the work Philosophy"don't worry about the mule, just keep loading the wagon". She has always accomplished more in a day than any two good people could. But, she's more than hard working. She has always had this tremendous compassion for people. She would remind you of a human wrecker service. Traveling down the road of life looking for people in need. Eyes constantly scanning for the person in need. The person off in the ditch of life that needs a little encouragement or push to get them back on the road and safe. I do believe this is what God has called her to do in her life. It's her calling, her passion, so, if you know Misty and down on your luck, having a bad day, or just overwhelmed with life sometime, just look and listen for that bubbly wrecker to offer a hand or encouraging word to help you thru the day. We Love her and so proud of the person she has become. And if your not a morning person, avoid her at all cost??

I have known Misty about 25 years. I have watched her grown into the wonderful person she is today. She has worked in different fields and has done well in everything she has done, but listening to her talk about teaching and her students, she is in the perfect place. She is so enthusiastic and gives over 100% to help students be successful not only in learning but in all aspects of their lives. Misty lights up every time she shares stories about her job. I am so happy for her and know that the students are blessed to have her as a teacher.

Misty Abercrombie came into my life in the mid 1980’s and was a student of mine for two years. She displayed awesome qualities at an early age...always exuberant, a smile on her face, outgoing, a bright, positive force in the classroom everyday. I knew she would be capable of making the world a better place and impacting the lives of those around her. She has done that so very well. “Students don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Misty cares. It is evident in her day in, day out dealings with her students. As a teacher, you always strive to touch lives for the better. She does that and then some. I have no doubt that Misty will continue her endeavor of excellence in the classroom. There are those in her care today who will one day teach because of her and continue to pay it forward.

Sharon Abercrombie Posted over a year ago

Misty Abercrombie is a teacher at Mauldin High School and I have personally known her for over 40 years and if you have never had the pleasure of knowing Misty, please allow me to describe her in a few words. She is a compassionate woman with a heart for students and whose desire is to inspire and help each one achieve their potential. Misty's positive attitude is always seeing the good in others and situations never letting adversity keep her down. Misty is a hard worker with a creative mind that anticipates the day with enthusiasm and the energy to match. Having a friendly personality she never meets a stranger and is always ready to help in any way she can, a non judgmental, genuine friend. As a child she always wanted to be a teacher but pursued other careers, giving her experience and knowledge that has been beneficial in returning to her passion of teaching. I believe Misty is very deserving of this nomination in a time when we need more like her in the teaching profession, someone that students can look up to, respect and love. I also believe she truly cares for others. I love her and very proud of her achievements and she calls me MOM Sharon Abercrombie

Ms. Abercrombie is truly one of the best people I know. I have a friend that had her last year and could not stop talking about how fun her class was and how inspiring she was, and little did I know, I would have the ability to have her as a teacher this year. I was so excited to walk into her class on the first day of school, already knowing that she was a great teacher and ready to help or listen at any time. I'll be honest, it was a little intimidating to have upperclassmen walking into her classroom to hug her and say hello every few seconds the first week of school, but that simply shows how much of an impact she makes in her students' lives. From the very first day of school, we were doing activities that taught us how to be better students and people in the community. As a teacher, she knows how to bring fun into the classroom while teaching at the same time, which a lot of teachers tend to struggle with. You can tell she is ready to nurture and support you from the second you meet her. She wants her students to do their absolute best and is very open and honest when she needs to be. Overall, she is a fantastic teacher and an amazing person and I am so thankful to have her as a teacher this year!

Lauren Posted over a year ago

Ms. Abercrombie is nice to every student that she meets even if she isn't your teacher. She helped me my senior when I had a lot going on. She was one of the few to understand what I was going through. I was ready to give up that year but she didn't let me. She was very patient with me even if I made things hard. I am grateful that I had a chance to meet her even if it was just for one year.

Frances Anders Posted over a year ago

I have known Misty from childhood and have watched her mature into the beautiful enthusiastic person she is today. She isn’t afraid of hard work or a challenge. To watch her focus her enthusiasm and hard work toward her students has been exciting to watch. She leads her students in the classroom and in extra curricular activities that build character and leadership skills they will carry for a lifetime.

Ms.Abercrombie is one in a million. She the type of teacher that even if she didn’t teach you , you would come to her for advice and she would be there . She has helped so many students throughout her time teaching and she always puts her students first no matter what . If you needed someone to talk to , someone to help you out , someone to be a role model , Ms.A was the one for you . There was never a sad or bad day when your around her , she gets you to talk about what’s going on even when you don’t want to. She also makes you actually wanna learn , when your in her class your content , focused and paying attention, because you have that much respect for her . Ms.A was personally there for me in times where I felt low , when I was going through things , she helped me out and it felt like she was the only one that was truly there for me. She helped me stay on top of things and whenever I was slipping she was right there to help me and bring me back . She became another mom for me and she had a soul so genuine and pure that she affects so many people and she is truly an angel .

I've only been her student for a few months but I've truly seen Ms.Abercrombie's desire to support her students and to make a difference in their lives if needed. She teachers classes that aren't core classes, but still takes it seriously as well as understanding the students' point of view in many occasions. She teaches respect and mercy and goes through with what she teaches in her actions. She is really amazing!

Ms. A is definelty one of, if not the best teacher i've ever had. She's laid back, supportive, and best of all, her class greatly reduces stress. it's just a friendly place overall, good for students who are having a rough time. I say this from experience, of course. She is incredibly supportive of her students, and people should want to be like her.

I am so honored to have met her and have an amazing friendship then and now with her. Her love for others is incredible and her passion for her students is so powerful. She is an amazing teacher , mom , friend , and human being.

This woman is what I aspire to be as a human being. She is kind to everyone, she cares for anyone, and is always there to help in anyway she can. Out of the 4 years I’ve been at Mauldin high school, I’ve never had her as a teacher, she has been there for me more than my actual teachers I know that if I need advice or anything I can go to Mrs. Abercrombie. No matter what she makes me feel like I belong and she inspires me to strive for nothing less than the best. When you hear the name Mrs. Abercrombie around school only good things follow. I will never forget the woman that made me feel like I belonged at a huge school like Mauldin high school. She truly deserves this award because without her I would still be that shy boy who was afraid to express himself.

Ms. Abercrombie is hands down one of the best first year teachers I have ever experienced. My favorite thing about her is that not only did we get to learn so much from her, she took the time to learn things from us as her students as well and genuinely expressed interest and care in all her students. Every time you walked into her classroom, you knew you had a welcoming, safe environment for learning. I loved the thoughtfulness and care she showed to all her students like leaving us cards for our birthday and even sending home appreciation notes to our parents. She has the biggest heart and I’m glad to have been a student of hers.

Mrs. Abercrombie is one of the only teachers that I’ve actually had a real relationship with ! She made school bearable even in the times where I felt the place was trying to kill me. She’s the teacher I would always go to and still go to if I have a problem with any of my other teachers. She guides me to do the right thing and also sticks up for me when I’m being done or not getting the respect that I deserve , I have always and will always respect Mrs. Abercrombie as the great teacher she is because she is the best example of what a true life changer is meant to be.

I was in and out of home school and public school for the first two years of high school and the beginning of junior year I was still unsure about being in public school because of my anxiety, but on the second day I got switched into Ms.Abercrombie's class thank goodness because she was the first teacher that ever truly cared about me as a person and not just my grades on a piece of paper. she taught me to be strong and confident and taught me how to fight through my battles. her classroom was my safe place for the two years I was at mauldin. students that you would never think would get along get along in her class because of the tone of positivity she sets. she always taught us to build each other up and support one another despite our differences. I truly would not be the person I am today if it wasn't for Ms.Abercrombie! she is phenomenal at her job because her heart is in it %100!!!

This year I was nervous about coming back because i always feel like I dont belong in this school. On the first day of school with Ms. Abercrombie we went outside and talked about stereotypes. It was open and honest and it is obvious Ms. Abercrombie truly cares about us all. In a school where i feel like i dont belong, i can walk into her class eveyday and feel safe and accepted and i dont have to worry about anything. She is sweet, caring, an amazing teacher and role model. I have not known her for very long but in the time i have had with her i have enjoyed being in her class. She is so amazing.

Ms. Abercrombie is the one teacher that I know I can go to for anything. She's one of the most supportive teachers that I've had for what I can remember. You can really tell that she cares about her students, unlike a lot of other teachers, because whenever I walk up to her classroom and I'm feeling down or upset, she simply gives me a hug and asks if I want to talk about it. Ms. Abercrombie cares about her students well enough to know when they are having a bad day, so she does whatever she can in order to try to cheer you up and make you feel better. I'm so glad I got put in this class this year because I had the chance to get to know Ms. Abercrombie better and to form a better relationship with her. Anyone who doesn't know Ms. Abercrombie is missing out. By far the best teacher out here.

As a colleague, Ms. Abercrombie reminds me so much of myself when I was teaching in my classroom. She tries to be the light in every student's day with her positive energy, never give up attitute, and true sense that EVERY student is precious gem that just needs to be polished. At the same time, she does not compromise her high expectations of her students. Yes, she is very kind, but she is going to also give you the honest truth about the importance of learning and what she is trying to teach her students. Her classroom environment is so warm and inviting that anyone who comes in feels welcome. I have no doubt that Ms. Abercrombie would do whatever was within her means to help any student while maintaining true integrity. Teachers like her are the ones that students remember fondly.

As owner of a small business that supports many schools in the county and as a JA volunteer, I’ve visited many classrooms and interacted with many teachers. Hands down there is no other like Misty Abercrombie. To her students she is first and foremost a teacher. A teacher beyond the class subject - she is a life teacher. She is a confidant, a friend, a mentor and an advocate. She is also a disciplinarian, a standard setter and a rule bender. She’s everything a student wants in a teacher. She’s everything a parent wants in a teacher of their child. She’s always available - during school hours or after - when she’s most likely volunteering her personal time for student council activities. She’s the teacher that students will come back to visit long after graduation because they’ll realize the impact she had on their lives. #yeahthatgreenville #yeahthatabercrombie

I’ve had the honor and privilege of knowing Ms. Abercrombie for 3 years. My son is a senior now but he was a freshman when he had Ms. Abercrombie for Google Apps. I specifically remember him telling me about how nice she was and how she made everyone feel so welcome. Freshman year is a big transition year and this was one class he could always count on being the good part of his day. During the years I’ve known her, the one consistent thing I hear people say about her whether a student, parent or teacher is that she has a big heart and she is always looking for ways to help others. There is nobody more deserving of this award than Ms. Abercrombie.

Deshawn J Posted over a year ago

Senior year was the hardest time throughout my high school years. Dealing with issues outside of school only made the task of going to class content and ready to learn, even more difficult. Every morning or afternoon you walk into Ms. A’s classroom, she greeted you with a big smile and a warm welcome. The feeling of being welcomed made my day so much easier. Ms. A did her best to ensure that every student knows they have a purpose in the classroom. She helped me with my work tremendously and was very lenient. I never had the easiest time paying attention in class, but every time Ms. A spoke, you were compelled to listen knowing that you were gaining knowledge or receiving advice to help elsewhere. A second mom would be a bit of an understatement to me. Ms. A is more than a teacher, she’s an awesome listener, but someone you can confide in and trust. She strives to impact every student in the best way possible and didn’t fail to get through to me. Definitely a life changer!

Ms.Abecrombie is the most sweetest and caring teacher that I had while I attended Mauldin high school. She definitely played a big part in life during my senior year at Mauldin high school. She has definitely molded me and helped shaped into the women that I am today. She’s a mentor and she definitely cares about her students. Ms. Abercrombie is well involved in school activities and she definitely shows great maverick spirit!! She shows the true meaning of being a maverick. She’s an inspirational woman and I’m so glad that god placed her into my life so she could bless me with positivity, kindness and love. She helps you look at life differently and I’m so proud to call her my friend/school mom! I love Ms. A (as many of us call her) and I’m so proud of the accomplishments that she has made and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for her! I love Ms. A , congratulations!

Freshman year was a hard transfer from middle school. That was until I met Ms. Abercrombie. Immediately she helped me learn and adapt to high school problems and situations. This help even carried outside of school to my home life. Ms. Abercrombie was such an impactful teacher and person and still is to this day. She is always outgoing and one of the hardest workers I know. I take and learn all I can from her whenever I get a chance to. Aside from being such a big influence on me in how I work, she is also one of the kindest people you can meet. Always looking for the good and positive outcomes. Ms. Abercrombie gives lives proper direction and I believe this has a major impact on how I, and others will grow and succeed throughout life. I consider Ms. Abercrombie my mom away from home. I am able to talk to her about any problems I have and I know that she is someone I can trust. She will always be one of the biggest influences on how I approach a situation and how I live throughout the rest of life! Ms. Abercrombie is always looking to help and change lives, and she does quite an amazing job. She will always be an outstanding mentor to me and I can always rely on her for everything that I go through! I will always consider her my second mom! :)

Misty Abercrombie was our neighbor and I've observed that she can accomplish anything and be very successful. In any situation she has supported her children unconditionally as well as her current students. She is a clear example of a "touch the future" teacher by setting the bar high and encouraging her students to live their dreams. It's been my pleasure knowing her and seeing how she goes above and beyond to help her students.

Ms. Abercrombie is the best teacher I’ve ever had simply based on how caring she is. It is evident how passionate she is about teaching through her effort towards the success of students and how she sees the potential in any given student and will do whatever it takes to drive that student to their potential.

Ms. Abercrombie has always looked out for my daughter and has always gone above and beyond for my daughter as well as all of her students. My daughter has a disability and I have always felt safe if I knew Ms. Abercrombie was going to be around. She actually treats my daughter as well as her other students like a parent that has a great communications, praises and a stern talk when it is needed. My daughter has always felt behind the 8 ball with her disability and has struggled. Ms. Abercrombie has always made my daughter feel like she’s not alone and she has her back and is willing to fight for her to be heard with other teachers or administration staff. Ms. Abercrombie is always checking in on my daughter no matter when it is, even the weekends or after school. Because of Ms. Abercrombie my daughter has gained so much more confidence in herself and confidence in school. We are so very blessed and grateful to have Ms. Abercrombie as our teacher, leader and as our mentors. I can’t thank her enough for all that she’s done for my daughter!!

Ms. Abercrombie is an amazing leader inside and outside of the classroom to all students she interacts with, whether they are one of her students or not. As a teacher and a student council supervisor, she impacts many students on a daily basis. In her classroom, she teaches the importance of kindness and leads by example. You can tell she cares a great deal about her students as soon as you walk in her classroom, there is always a board covered in sticky notes and papers with uplifting messages that she encourages students to write for their peers. She spends a lot of time designing her classroom so that students feel comfortable when they enter her room. As a student council advisor, she teaches leadership skills and ways to be successful in the "real world". She constantly teaches us budgeting and marketing techniques that help Student Council members put on the best events possible that bring the school and community together. Ms. Abercrombie impacts everyone she meets for the better. Our school is lucky to have someone as caring and influential as her.

Ms. Abercrombie is way more than just a great teacher. She goes about her days of teaching showing love and compassion to students, and as a result her students learn curriculum as well as how to be a better person everyday.

Ms. Abercrombie is an amazing teacher, person, and mentor. I have known Ms. Abercrombie all through high school and she always had a smile on her face. Each day she wanted to inspire and impact her students and the people around her the best way she could. Everyone loved her and wanted her advice on things because she actually listened and cared about her students. I personally didn’t have Ms.Abercrombie as a teacher but I did have an amazing opportunity to get to know her through student council and ever since I met her she has impacted my life tremendously. Just being around her put everyone in a better mood. She will stop at nothing to make sure her students are okay and on the path to succeed!

Ms. A is the definition in my opinion of what a teacher is pose to be a true teacher wants to see her student succeed in school and life not give up on you when you struggle but help you do better the best they can . Ms. A was like a mother to me when I needed it. With out Ms. a I would have gave up but she kept my head straight and helped me thru it.

Mrs Abercrombie is my student council advisor and she is very deserving of this award because of the countless hours she spends for her student and the extra hours to spend to achieve a great student council. She is such a caring and amazing person.

Mrs. Abercrombie may have been the most influential teacher I have ever had. Every day I walked into her class, it made my day easier. She is always in a good mood and is a light in everyone’s life that surrounds her. Mrs. Abercrombie is the definition of what a teacher should be because she is so much more than a teacher. She is a leader to all of her students and peers, and she is so invested and cares for every one of her students. Again, she is one of the most influential teachers I have ever had, and will be a mentor to me for the rest of my life!!
