Krystal Spurlock was nominated by her assistant principal, Suzanne Williams.
Ms. Spurlock works with students who not only struggle with school, but also struggle with social and emotional disabilities. Her patience, kindness, and support is evident in everything she does. The amount of growth seen with her students is tremendous. She teaches coping skills and serves as a touchstone for her students as they struggle throughout the day.
What makes Ms. Spurlock unique, however, is her willingness to help all students in her building. During her planning and free period, she will often speak with students who are not on her caseload. She has such a passion for tapping into the potential of all students, for seeing the good in all students, and for teaching staff how to work with students whose disabilities may not be as evident. As her students progress through school, they learn such essential life skills that translate to being successful in the classroom and life. They see their own potential, which is such a powerful transformation!
