Jill Carey was nominated by her former principal, Pete Kempen.
Ms. Carey has been the secretary at Rock Ledge Intermediate School since its inception in 2008. She is a constant presence in the building. Staff know if they have a question that needs an immediate answer, Ms. Carey is the one to ask. She makes sure that everyone has what they need to bring students the best possible education. Her sense of humor, knowledge and adaptability make her an essential part of the team.
"She is the 'Rock' of Rock Ledge Intermediate! Her compassion and caring for students is unsurpassed!" Kempen said. "Ms. Carey maintains composure in what is sometimes a chaotic environment, and continues to perform her duties amazingly on a daily basis. Her work contributes to the incredible feeling one gets when they enter the building."
As the building secretary, Ms. Carey has too many duties to list. However, she does each one of them with students in mind. She cares for students' injuries when they're hurt on the playground, comforts them when they don't feel well, and ensures that all kids feel loved and safe while at school.
"In a day and age when many kids need that extra touch, Ms. Carey is the one kids can rely on. I guess that is why so many people call her 'Mom' at school!" Kempen said. "Her passion for students and her love for people makes her special. To many people at RLI, she is not only a Lifechanger of the Year, but for a lifetime!"
Jill is my Aunt (we are the same age) but really she is one of my best friends. She is kind hearted, giving, caring and goes above and beyond for her Kids. She is one of those people that when you are around her, your spirit is up lifted. She is truly a life changer for her students, family and friends. Congratulations Jill, you are so deserving.
I have known Jill my entire life and think of a few words to describe her....caring, energetic and impactful! She pours her heart into all she does for family, friends and her school. She is the type of person who is always willing to help and makes the world and the people around her better!

Congratulations Jill! She is so deserving of this award. When Jill would speak about her job it was very clear that she wore many hats and was very competent in doing so. The qualities she has for her job comes as no surprise to me because those same qualities spill into her personal life. Even with her very busy schedule she was always there supporting and helping me in my time of need. This nomination couldn't have happened to a better person.

As the public library director, I am fortunate to have many interactions at the school district with my fellow educators and students. Jill is always gracious and welcoming when I am in her building. She is helpful and knowledgeable and I witness how organized and efficient she is while juggling several balls in the air. Each year there are changes with technology and routines and all the moving pieces of a school. Jill keeps on top of it with a smile on her face and high alertness! Jill is absolutely deserving of the LifeChanger award. What is so amazing is her selfless approach to everything she does. Jill puts others first no matter what challenges she may be facing. Jill always can be counted on to help others, and she does it with a fantastic attitude and cheery smile. Jill Carey is our heart and soul of our building. Not only does she take care of the kids, but she takes care of the staff as well. She is always thinking of others and what is best for kids. Rock Ledge Intermediate is lucky to have her as the first person that people meet. She is helpful, attentive and very knowledgeable. To be honest, I don’t personally know Jill Carey, but I know her son, Adam and I believe the character of someone is a direct reflection of their Mom. That being said, then this recognition for Jill is very well-deserved. Congratulations. You are making a difference to many young people. You are changing lives.
Jill wears so many hats...............and wears them well! I am in awe of all that she does for staff and students. Jill is an amazing lady and so deserves this honor!
This woman is amazing. If you have a question, she has the answer. She knows every students name and their background and deals with each child on an individual basis. She treats students, staff, and parents with respect. RLI functions without the principal present in the building, but, when Mrs. Carey is absent things don’t run as smoothly. When she is absent everyone is concerned because she is seldom gone from the building. She does the work of at least 6 people and does it extremely well. At best of all, she is a great friend!

In the 15 years I have worked with Ms. Carey at Rock Ledge, hers is the first friendly face I see when I walk into the office. I am instantly relieved because I know whatever I need, Mrs. Carey can assist me. She is constantly backing up her teachers to do what's right for the students. It is a sight to behold her commitment and organization to manage an office that is the hub of communication between teachers, students, administrators, and parents. The office is a sanctuary. It's seemless flow is due to its incredible leader. Ms. Carey partipates in our crazy dress up days, helped us run the "cake walk" for relay for life donations at the school dance, and cheers on students who are practing for the Bellin Run. She is a vital piece of the Rock Ledge puzzle and greatly deserving of this nomination.

Jill is my sister-in-law and in the many years that I have had the true pleasure to know her I can truly say she has a heart of gold! Her desire to help everyone no matter what is beyond compare. She gives with her whole heart and will put aside her own wants to do for others. If our world today was a tenth as giving as Jill our world would be a Blessed place to live. Jill I admire you so much for being the wonderful person you are!

As someone who has called her "Mom" for 31 years, I wholeheartedly confirm Mr. Kempen's observations about Jill Carey. My mother is a constant and consistent force at Rock Ledge, a cornerstone that all can rely on each and every day. She works diligently and sacrificially, putting the needs of students, teachers, and the school beyond her own - whether it be attending a PTO meeting to show solidarity, or running concessions at the Friday night high school basketball game. Her role goes so far past the title of secretary. Life changer is a much more fitting label. Proud of you Mom!
