Gavin Pickering was nominated by his colleague, Heather Schmidt.

"Mr. Pickering has only been a paraprofessional a short time, but he has made a tremendous impact on students at Kennedy," Schmidt said. "There is one student who he worked with at the alternative school. He worked with this student for a couple of months and was able to help him make progress so he could return to a regular education classroom this year. I have that student this year, and Mr. Pickering is now working in our school. He continues to help me with this child to make improvements to his behavior. With Mr. Pickering's help, this child was able to earn Student of the Month. His ability to help calm this student and get him back to learning has been a big asset. It helps the overall climate of the classroom, and all students are able to learn. Gavin Pickering has changed this child's life."

Mr. Pickering is an essential part of our Kennedy team. He specifically specializes working with students who struggle with behavior. Mr. Pickering has the patience of a saint, and is consistently kind and positive when working with all students. Students respond so well to Mr. Pickering, and all students and staff have a strong respect for Mr. Pickering's ability to assist staff and guide students to improve their academic and behavioral success. Our school is truly blessed to have Mr. Pickering on our team.

We are so lucky to have Gavin as part of our team. He is one of the most patient people I have ever met. He handles each situation with respect. The way the students respond to him is amazing. He works very closely with the classroom teachers and helps keep the students on task. He also works half a day as a 1 on 1 with another student. That students is making great gains and learning the expectations.
