Carol Nishita was nominated by her colleague, Michael Kawatachi.

Ms. Nishita is a heaven-sent music teacher who has been instructing young learners for over 35 years. She's a musical prodigy who has passed on her vast knowledge of musical instruments to her students. She has even co-authored an elementary school level teaching textbook.

"Whenever our administrative team discusses future academic plans, Carol always thinks of the children first," said Kawatachi. "'What will they get out of the new procedures? How it will impact the children and their families? Will this be stressful to the children, and how much stress will there be?' These are just a few of the questions I always hear Carol raise. She constantly thinks of her students and the staff at our school, and how we should all be working together so that we can find what's best for our students. Carol is tireless, fearless, and kind. Makalapa Elementary is very fortunate to have Carol as its music teacher."
