Alona Andress was nominated by a colleague who wishes to remain anonymous.

Ms. Andress is an amazing teacher! Her room is beautifully decorated, with colorful posters and artifacts from Russia and Ukraine. Students love her class. She has little, if any, classroom management problems because she has an innovative and interactive lesson plan that engages students in the language, culture, and history of Russian speaking countries. She is the first teacher to complete required tasks, and in the nominator's three years of working with Ms. Andress, they don't believe she has ever missed a day of work.

"Besides teaching at Rogers, she teaches Russian at the University of Tulsa located near our school," the nominator said. "I know she is well thought of at the university as well. We are fortunate to have Ms. Andress work at our school. We love her!"

Mrs. Andress is Beautiful, sweet, caring, and understanding teacher. She always understands if someone has messed up something on accident, and she doesn’t get angry at the student. She always cares if a student is having a bad day, and she makes sure that student has a good time in the class. She has fun plans everyday, and she very happy to our faces everyday. She makes many good comments when a student gets something correct. I have to say she is by far one of the best teachers in all of Oklahoma. And Mrs.Andress is definitely a sweet, amazing, cheerful, happy, and, smart teacher. She disserves any award she is getting, because she is the best.

I have known Alona Andress since she had moved to the USA a couple of decades ago. At the time I was an Associate Professor of Russian at TCC and we offered many levels of Russian so I needed help. Therefore I recommended Alona to work as an adjunct at TCC. The students were very happy with her teaching and I of course trained her first and then I observed her classes. She is very organized and she always has a plan to follow but at the same time she can be flexible if something does not go quite as scheduled. Alona is also very enthusiastic about Russian language and Russian culture as well as is very knowledgeable in both areas. When we had Russian club meetings and Global festival( annually) at TCC she always volunteered her time even though it was not her job description. I would highly recommend Mrs. Andress for this nomination-she definitely deserves it.

My acquaintance with Ms. Andress goes back to the last year of Wilson Middle School before it was dissolved by Project Schoolhouse. My youngest daughter applied to attend Wilson because it was a middle school language magnet and offered an array of foreign languages such as Russion, German and Chinese, I believe, and she wanted to study Russian. Disappointingly, her schedule configuration did not allow her to take the class. Fortunately, we appealed to Ms. Andress and begged her for lessons, to which she agreed, although it would require staying after school an extra 20-30 minutes/week. Her teaching method is discliplined, fun and effective. My daughter and I were very grateful to Ms. Andress for her giving spirit which allowed my daughter to learn some Russian! Congratulations to Ms. Andress for this nomination which she so deserves!

Ms. Andress is a complete professional in the classroom. She is someone the students can always count on for consistency and dedication. She is a joy to work with as her colleagues can always count on her to assist when her expertise is helpful or when we need a favor. One of my favorite memories of seeing her in action was when we had a multi-culture exhibit and her display was so engaging with beautiful pictures, artifacts and even her dress expressed her culture. I know she impacts her students’ lives in a positive way every day. Her students always speak of her in glowing terms and enjoy the subject because of the passion she brings to teaching the Russian language.

Exceptional professional and personal qualities Mrs. Andress possesses combined with the dedication, love and passion with which she teaches the subject to her students create captivating, stimulating and engaging learning environment in her classroom. It is so vividly expressed in her students' comments filled with admiration and gratitude. Although Alona has many years of extensive teaching experience on many levels of education system, including higher education at universities, what makes her a true expert of her field is the genuine love for the job she does so masterfully. That is why her talent, efforts and skillset are recognized and admired by her students, their parents and her colleagues.
