Knew this young-man from his youngest school days. He along with his brother and mom have always been examples, of the heart and soul we all hope to give as examples of the love they have always shown through their lives. Congratulations Marccus!!!
There is not a more deserving educator for this award than Mr. Spearman. I have know Mr. Spearman for a few years now, and it has been incredible to watch his own professional growth as well as simultaneously watch the immense turnaround that has happened at Strive Prep-Sunnyside that is directly correlated to his leadership and influence. Mr. Spearman is a friend and a college I immensely respect, and I could not be happier that he is being nominated for this fantastic award!

WOW! Marcus is the epitome of the word RESILIENT. I have literally had the privilege of personally knowing him since he was in 4th Grade:) What's more, I was honored to be his 4th grade teacher. He is not only determined, but he has the internal fortitude to never quit!

I support Marccus' great leadership and value he has brought to Strive. This young man has come from people that doubted his success, leadership and accomplishments. He has proven his determination to overcome all the fire storms he has faced to get to this level. Marccus has demonstrated a high level of support to his family, friends, staff and most importantly those children that well forever be changed because his love, tireless compassion he has shown them. I strongly recommend him to be honored with this great award, he is and will always be at the top of my list, I can assure you it is well deserved. I look forward to seeing more awards for Marccus Spearman in the near future.
Marccus is such the kind of person that no matter what is going on in your life he has a way of making people feel special and loved. For middle school students this can be a catalyst in so many ways as stated in Wendy's video. If anyone deserves this award it is Marccus and not just for his personality, but also for the dedication, hard work and respect he has for his work and students.
When I first met Marccus, it was my first day teaching as a long term substitute years ago at Morey Middle school. Marccus was working in security in the school at the time. After only about 15 minutes into teaching my first ever 6th grade math class, a fight broke out and then fizzled in my classroom. Calling out for help, Marccus came in and handled it professionally. It was obvious that he had strong connections with the students, but I was really shaken up. I didn’t expect to have to deal with something like this on my first day! Marccus didn’t just take care of the kids that day, he pulled me aside seeing the scared look on my face, and made sure that I was going to be ok to keep teaching too. Without the reassurance that he had my back, I’m not sure I would have come back the next day let alone for the next 3 months. I don’t know if he realized in that moment how much that meant to me. He has come a long way since that day. I know he has been there for many students and teachers alike. I am so proud of him for this nomination. You deserve it Marccus!!
Throughout my journey in education, I've had the honor of meeting many wonderful educators, but Marccus, by far, stands apart. His dedication to his school and community is so deep and while we joke about the stress it brings us, we still know the work we put into it is worth it if it means changing our schools for the better. Students look up to him, for support, guidance and just as one of their favorite people at Sunnyside. I can say the same for the staff, knowing the Office Manager personally, who always speaks so highly of him. There are so many more reasons I am not surprised that he is nominated for this, but if ANYONE is deserving of this award, it is him.

Marcus is a dynamic leader who inspires respect, resilience and empathy in students and staff. His calming influence turns chaos into serenity. His leadership is evident by the positive outcomes particularly in working with gang entrenched and troubled youth. Marcus is able to hold them accountable, use the situation as a teachable moment, all while incorporating restorative justice practices and creative solutions. Marcus has an uncanny ability to relate to students of all backgrounds as it is evident in the respect he inspires. He has been able to motivate the most challenging students to strive for excellence. His enthusiasm is infectious and his hope for their best outcomes is unwavering. His balanced, disciplined approach is difficult to achieve and something to be admired in Marcus. He is loved and respected by students and staff. My hope is any recognition Marcus receives is more than well deserved. Way to go Marcus, you are a game changer and a life changer for sure!

Marccus is a phenomenal human being and school leader. I was the principal at STRIVE Prep - Sunnyside when Marccus first joined the team. I first encountered Marccus when he was working with DPS Safety & Security. When a Dean of Culture role opened up mid-year, I found Marccus' email address and asked him to apply and then rushed to hire him. I am no longer the principal at Sunnyside, but I know the school has made a ton of growth over the years largely because of Marccus' influence. He has incredibly high expectations of our students. His connections with students and staff alike are genuine and supportive. I personally don't know where I (or Sunnyside) would have been without Marccus in the time we worked together at Sunnyside. He is incredibly deserving of this award. Keep crushing, Marccus!

LifeChanger of the Year could not fit Marccus Spearman more accurately! Marccus goes above & beyond to make sure his students succeed. Marccus helps his students succeed not only academically but he teaches all the students he serves important life lessons that they can bring with them as they grow into young adults. I have witnessed many students go out of their way when they see Marccus outside school, whether at the store or at amusement parks, students look up to Marccus and what he has taught them. I know the students feel greatly supported and safe around Marccus, I believe they know he will do anything he can to help them through any challenges they might face.
Marccus is a true LifeChanger for all staff and the students at STRIVE Prep Sunnyside from the day they step a foot into the school until the moment they graduate. Well-deserved nomination!

Marccus and I were both college athletes at the same college. Now, both being in education, I have truly enjoyed watching Marccus grow as a leader and continuing to be a role model for his students and others who look up to him. I am very grateful to have such a great friend to share educational ideas and ways to improve education in our field. He is an amazing advocate for his students and staff. Definitely deserves this award and much more.

So incredibly happy to see Marccus Spearman nominated for this award. I can't think of a more deserving person.
For 20+ years, I've worked in school districts across the country to improve outcomes for students who struggle with literacy and learning. Two and a half of those years were spent with the STRIVE Prep network in metro Denver, and living just a few blocks from STRIVE Prep-Sunnyside, it became my adopted home campus. Of the thousands of districts I've worked with, of the thousands of school buildings I've been in, I can honestly say I've never come across a school leader quite like Marccus. Mr. Spearman is a truly amazing culture leader within STRIVE Prep-Sunnyside. He is as authentic a human being as one will ever find. High expectations, personable, genuine care and concern for his students and their life trajectories, supreme professionalism, highly skilled and devoted to his craft, selfless in giving his time and himself. These are just some of the attributes that Mr. Spearman brings to his work and truly, to his approach to life.
STRIVE Prep-Sunnyside would not be the place it is today without Mr. Spearman. The impact he's had on young lives in North Denver is immeasurable. Mr. Spearman is as strong a candidate as anyone could hope to find for this award.

I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Spearman when he started at Sunnyside. He brings great ideas and practical means for improving student and school culture.
