Fabiola Barranon was nominated by Patty Kalaye, the parent of a student.

"Ms. Fabi has been my son's paraeducator since kindergarten," said Kalaye. "She has encouraged him to grow as a student, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic. He has gone from a five year old who used to elope from the classroom and run all over the campus to a confident third grader who is surprisingly excelling at distance learning. Ms. Fabi goes above and beyond to keep him engaged and actively involved in the classroom. She takes him to breakout rooms with other students and gives him extra support. His academic performance and behavior have greatly improved over the past four years. Ms. Fabi has embraced our journey with ADHD and helped my son feel normal and accepted. Words aren't enough to thank her for the assistance she has provided the past four years, especially since in-person schooling ended on March 13th. Jeremiah looks forward to the day he can be back to school in person with her."

I have been lucky enough to work with Fabi for the past five years at Ocean Beach Elementary. I have seen her work with a variety of teachers and in all different environments. We started together in the mod/severe special needs class. It takes a strong and caring person to work with students of all abilities. Fabi is flexible, helpful, and always cares about providing the best support for her students. She knows when to step in and how to support independence. I'm continuously learning from her and feel very lucky to have such an amazing person on my team!

I have been fortunate to have worked alongside Fabiola (or Fabi, as we all call her) for a number of years. As a principal of a school, one always hopes for the best when employees are placed. Our school has struck gold when Fabi was assigned here. I have seen here work with students who presented challenges in an number of areas and she never gives up on them. I have watched her as she keeps kids growing but never lets them get away with less than their best effort. She makes the students believe in themselves. I would love to have a whole campus full of Fabis!

I got to work with Fabiola a lot last schoolyear as she was a para aide in my classroom with a high-needs student. She was always going above and beyond to help me with anything I needed in the classroom- working with additional students, grading papers, and a variety of other tasks! She always has a smile on her face and is always positive. She has a strong work ethic and has been a pleasure to work with. I am happy to hear that she is being recognized for her commitment to students and staff.

To Whom It May Concern: I am a first grade teacher and I have had the good fortune of working with Ms. Fabl for many years at Ocean Beach Elementary School. I have observed her love and dedication for her position with a variety of students. Whenever I would see that she has been assigned to support students in my class, I breathe a sigh of relieve. There is no one I would prefer to work alongside to support my students. Ms. Fabli is such an intelligent, hard working, and kind person. Ms. Fabi is one of the best para-educators in our school district. She not only does everything she can to support the students academically, but she also supports the students psychologically. Ms. Fabi begins by building a strong and trusting relationship and from there she holds the students accountable to becoming smart and independent citizens. From there, she uses all her techniques and talents to assist the students in meeting their independent educational goals. Our school has been very blessed to have her working at our school. I am not surprised to learn she has been recommended for an award since she is so deserving. Thank you! Sincerely, Mrs. Ritchey

Ms. Fabi is the epitome of a servant leader. She always puts the person first. Whether she's training her peers or educating student's she always makes sure to connect with the individual on a personal level. She celebrates her student's unique abilities and helps build their self esteem. Fabi is the smartest, strongest, resilient and most caring person I know. Fabi continues to give her greatest efforts so that her student's (and their families) can success. I was lucky enough to work along side her for many years and I owe a great deal of my personal and professional development to her. She very much deserves this nomination!!!!!! We love you Fabi!!!!

Fabi is one of the most dedicated educators I've met. Her day is not done when the school bell rings. She supports not only the students that she is assigned to, she makes sure that all students feel welcome, safe and loved. I don't think I've ever seen her without a smile, and she has become someone I know I can depend on without a second thought. I am lucky to be a member of her team.

Fabiola deserves this nomination. She always goes above and beyond for her students and colleagues. She is a great example of someone who cares and has a passion for what she does. I had the honor of working with her a few years ago in an after school program and she has become an amazing friend. Way to go Ms. Fabi!

Fabiola Barranon is one in a million! I have had the pleasure of working with her for the last 19 years. When we first met, she was the supervisor for the Primetime program at Hamilton Elementary and I was a second year teacher. She was unlike anyone that I had ever truly known. She was a natural leader with a positive attitude and had the utmost respect from students, families, and both primetime and school staff. Over time, she began working as a para in between providing before and after school care at Hamilton. She would work 12+ hours day with a smile while finding the best ways to meet the needs of all students while raising her own 5 children. One time, we took 40 students and chaperones to an evening performance of the nutcracker. I will never forget that night. It was an experience that they would not have been able to have and they continue to talk about today. After Hamilton, I went on to work at Ocean Beach Elementary and Fabiola came to join me the following year. We are so lucky that she joined the OBE community! Fabiola is willing to support any child and volunteers to help in any way possible. She spends her breaks and after work hours helping in the office and helping to make our campus a fun place. Since we have been in distance learning, in addition to excelling in her job, she has come in to sort materials, distribute items to students, and helped with office work. She also helps me and I am thankful! I am lucky to have Fabiola as a colleague and as a friend. She is so deserving of this honor.
